Grow like you would grow tomato or eggplant transplants first, then transplant the plants in the field. Mulch with straw or old hay. Fertilize the soil of cause. Sure the plants will spread on the mulch, but its not an issue.

I tried to get pollen from both a purple and Loowit seedling and found no pollen. I will try later in the day, but may have to find another variety for my limited space. To answer a question below: Crossing two varieties is done to get something new and unexpected as well as combining two or more desirable traits. One may produce larger potatoes and another have better flavor or texture or disease resistance etc., so by crossing the two some of the offspring may have the best qualities of both parents and none of their weaknesses.

Well done with a standard axe and not a hewing axe. The only question I have is that it looked like you started in the think end of the log and not the thin end? Starting with the top part of the log gives less unwanted weed that goes in to the log and gives less even surface. Fresh cut log as you have is to prefer. I use to use a standard axe sometimes for the first round and then use the hewing axe for the final surface. If you want you can check my videos and see the very nice hewing axe I use.

That purple skinned, white flesh potato - market it as a "kitchen pot potato" if commercial growers aren't going to be keen on mass production. "kitchen pot potato"; a potato variety that people can grow in pots or grow bags at home, even in an apartment, for personal kitchen use.

Not sure if your even still on here but thanks for this, and your other "strategy" type videos. I tend use a boy's axe and more conventional bucking techniques but leaving a branch/brace to keep the tree from rolling around, and the log spinning technique when the situation calls for it, has definately improved efficiencey and made my life easyer.

So many videos are ruined because of an overabundance of explaining safety. Regardless if you are talking about bushcraft, canning, fermentation, distilling, woodwork... that said, your approach to people saying it isn't safe is genius. Sir, you need steel toes or some other safety equipment just in case... I'll show you, I'll do it barefoot. Take the warning labels off. Everyone works at their own comfort level, enjoy what/how you are doing and allow others the same.

There is no need to use hay. Any organic material that will break down and provide nutrients, water retention and weed resistance is the way to go. Hay was what she had at hand but anything will work. If you want more detailed info try to find her books to get the full 411.

If you use glass inside, the glass is a dielectric material, depending on what you piston use for a seal l, you can build up a static charge in the glass do to it being dielectric( it’s basically a capacitor. I love watching these videos but why is it you just want dry potatoes... The waxy potatoes are the best all round potato because they don't fall apart and for me, they even taste much better... The thing about dry potatoes is, they soak up all the liquid or butter like a sponge causing you to have to use so much more and for a cook, that is not good. but to each his own. Thanks for sharing your potato journey.

Very cool, just finished an 8 by 8 white oak. It was from a dead standing tree so not at all green. It probably took 20 hours to do and the beam is about 14 feet long. Very gratifying though, can’t wait to try another.

If you use real thumbtacks and you have strong thumbs you can push them into hickory. i can do it but i wont do it because i hate gaurds on axe handles. i put my hand there sometimes when im getting ready to really swing for the fences!

Curious which were your top varities for NuMex Pod Types. Sounds like Isleta. Did you try Isleta Long? Did any of the landrace chiles hold up enough to grow again or breed with? Planning my own green chile trial next year.
