Gear Failure Landing Hangar 9 MB339
First off the stock landing gear on the Hangar 9 MB339 is horrible. On this flight the nose gear failed to extend even after cycling the gear 6 times. Running low on fuel I was force to land nose gear up. The first attempt skipped off the runway and would have ended in the grass which has a lip at the end of the runway. So I went around to try again. Landing was perfect and there was absolutely no damage except the scuff mark on the nose.

On board my Hangar 9 MB339 at Hilltop RC. I had an issue with the nose gear not wanting to extend. Luckily on the 3rd cycle the nose gear extended. Had a flight earlier in the day that after 6 cycles the nose gear would not come down and performed a nose gear up landing. No damage at all and the gear cycled fine on the ground. I am going to replace the nose gear retract motor.

As a temco logistics work I can honestly say that it isn’t about the doors or the weight it’s because they weren’t raised high enough that fridge shouldn’t even be touching the steps
Another thing is the guy at the bottom didn’t have his arms straight out and locked
Oh this is so a sad end of this wonderful rc plane I hope you will just get one better 😮😢🛬👍
seems k85 has nice thrust, whats the temp and altitude of your location when test it , thanks
That day it was about 60 degrees F and I am about 850 feet above sea level. I think it says in one of my 2 videos with this engine.
@@pilot482 thank you
Awesome bro 👍 i did alot of the reviews in watching , about to get it in the air soon she's all set-up , i did much of covering all the complex problems, wing brackets, gyro bypass maximum throws for if needed in the settings. Even down to the phone tack glue on the C-clamp for all the wheels an stuff Going to do the throttle calibration when i get on out to get her in the air 😂 my b1 is the first batch 😂😂😂 so i had to double an triple over look everything. Im going with the KM afterburner setup. They have a afterburner there's also a afterburner set-up someone put together just for this jet but it's to ridiculous in the pricing overboard . Again nice work on the flight 👍
Would you be able to tell me how you installed your camera?
Yup. It's a Runcam 2 4K (orange one)
How did you mount it? Like with Velcro screw it in? Etc
I use foam rubber between the camera and the plane. Then I wrap velcro tight around the fuselage to hold it on. My none foam plane I can use painter tape instead of velcro.
Sink rate whoop whoop pull up
What afterburners are you flying?
The custom B-1 set sold by The RC Geek.
Great video. Could you show what your S.Bus2 port is connected to?
Never mind, I just saw your other video on the topic.
I’ve just finished watching all of your videos on the H9 MB339. Fantastic videos. I’m just finishing mine and have a few questions. What type of cameras are you using? On the ground and in the air? What type/size of batteries are you using? I see you have Skycandy lights and have a red flashing strobe on the bottom. Mine came with a white non flashing light, what did you add to get it to flash? I’m using a bec to drop voltage for the light down to 5 volts. I’ve been thinking about wiring the lights with a Jst plug to pick up power off one of my 7.4 volt flight batteries. Thanks for your help
Thank you! The onboard camera is a Runcam 2 4K (orange one). The latest video from the ground is my wife's new Canon H70. I use 1 Pulse 3S 3800mah LiFe battery for the turbine and 2 Genace 2S 3500mah Lipo batteries for the RX. 1 of the Rx packs is used to power the lights and gear/brakes. As for the lights.....they are not the sky candy lights. They are lights from Unilight RC. I ordered the lights individually to fit my taste for lights. I am extremely happy with them.
@@pilot482 thanks for the quick reply. I have a 42% RV-4 that I ordered the unilight system for. Very happy with it.
I do this work. It was the guy in the bottom that caused it to fall. If you notice he tripped on his own foot and it cause the fridge to go sideways. Plus his hands wasn’t even on the side of the fridge to catch it if this did happen…
Official NTSB Report: Written by [REDACTED]: While coming in on either a low pass or a final approach, Delta Flight 37 suffered from a severe wind shear, estimated to be around 5kts, hitting on the starboard side wing. The subsequent reaction: an imbalance in air pressure over the port side aerofoil, causing the wingtip to hit the ground, then causing total structural failure in the wing and engine. Thus, the plane flipped, and ripped apart in a few locations. This is the first and only recorded hull loss of Freewing Delta Airways (ICAO: FDA, IATA: FD). Survivors: 187 Fatalities: 22 Missing Person(s): 1 Case closed as of April 25, 2024.
Great job 🎉
Beautiful landing

Everyone in comments is wrong you supposed to coffin carry something that heavy up steps smh
Before I fly I tell myself real people are on board, that initially makes me fly with more care.😊😊😊
Emergency landing!
Great flight! Can you post your battery and times please? Thanks. Afterburners look great. Can’t believe how much the wing flexes in flight.
I have my timer set for 3 min. I use Genace 6S 5600mah batteries. The afterburner uses a separate small 2S 600mah lipo.
@@pilot482 Thanks! Good to know, getting ready to maiden mine, did you have to cut relief slots in elevator like some guys? Is there enough travel in the stock set up? Thanks again, I’m planning on using control board only for flaps and retracts, no gyro…..
No relief slots for me. I bypassed the stock gyro as well. Only the flaps and gear are on the board. I installed a standard cortex gyro. I maidened mine with it off. After 3 flights I realized I never turned it on to try it out. It flies great without it.
What camera do you use
Runcam 2 4K (orange one)

where did you get it from
It's a Freewing AL37 from MotionRC. I then custom painted it.
This motor has a bit of residual thrust at idle. Over 1.1 lb. Now that I saw this video, which explain why my AF L-39 has a hard time slowing down on final approach for landing. Is it a good idea to reduce the minimum RPM to maybe 54000? Thx.
I don't think it would be a good idea to reduce the idle rpm. You may end up with problems accelerating if the rpm is below the set stable idle speed.
@@pilot482 Thank you. :)
Hello, Very nice landing. Do you always use slats and flaps? Do you mix any elevator when using slats and flaps? Where is the CG? Thanks, Stefan
Yup. I always use slats and flaps. I do have a mix for the elevators. I can't remember how much but I believe it's up Elevator when extended. I'll try to check next time I have my radio out. My CG is in the middle of book range about 172mm.
It has fire in the turbines!!! 5 stars video!!! Wow a soft landing, other videos have landings that suck, even on real Bell 222A's...
Thank you. It isn't Airwolf without the "Turbo" lights.
Nice flight! What camera are you using ?
It's a Runcam 2 4k. (The orange one)
Perfect. What was the failure in the gear? I got one on the bench currently Im finishing with a k85
Basically it's the poor quality of the stock landing gear.
Good save. Be curious to know what failed in the retract. Mine have been flawless.
The retract unit is not very precise like other retract like JP Hobby. There was a lot of binding. After cleaning, repeated cycles and lots of lubrication it seems to be functioning well now.
Man, thats beautiful, subbd
Thanks!

I have spare 80N turbine, would that work?
I believe it should. My EDF puts out 17.5-18 pounds for most of the flight. It flies easily with that. You definitely won't be able to do any 3D or thrust vectoring.
Looks like I will need new turbine Many thanks anyway. And I'm looking forward for your turbine build
I plan on doing a video for it as well for the turbine version. Good luck with yours.
how do you find Lizard easy or difficult to fly ?
It's different. I wouldn't say it's difficult. It is definitely one of my favorite jets that I own. It flies well without a gyro but it's way better with a cortex pro. I love this so much I just ordered another one to make a turbine version.
@@pilot482 slowing down / landings
I find the landings fairly easy. Slowing it down in preparation for landing can be difficult if you don't use the drag Rudder (air brake) set up. You also can't be afraid to slow it down and fly a higher alpha approach with some power. I have another video on my channel that goes over my complete setup for this plane.
i have spare 80n turbine would that be enough@@pilot482
very nice!
Nice tests! Did you run any tests to monitorize the temperature of the electric motor, for example, to know how much time is it capable of performing at maximum power without reaching the limit temperature? I think this could be quite interesting to know, and also for the maximum time allowed for lower power levels
I didn't do any test like that. Didn't think of doing that. It really doesn't get that hot even after a complete flight. Don't think temperature would ever be an issue on this set up.
@@pilot482 How long are usually the flights you performe, and at which power level? I have been warned that a typical problem that these ducted fans have is the temperature management, specially when performing at high power levels continuously
Flights are 3:30 on 5600mah packs. Mixed power setting. I sometimes run it fast because it a lot of fun to fly the jet it's in fast. It's never hot when I land. Just warm. Also on all my higher powered fan I use heat sinks which helps a lot. They sit directly in the air flow and are very effective.
@@pilot482 Nice to hear. I wanted to do some tests with some EDFs but for another application, which I need to be able to give full power to the motors during 15 minutes, and I assume that this is not possible with regular Heat sinks, right?
I am not sure. I don't have batteries capable of powering an EDF for that long.
Cool. Building one now with a k85 and hope to get my waiver this summer
Way way too short a final approach. You are nowhere near stable on approach at landing.
Guess you have never seen the "Expressway Visual" into LGA. Practically the same approach. I just got too slow.
@@pilot482 Correct, I have never been to LGA.
Which type of camera are you using and how is it attached? Thanks
It's a Runcam 4k (the orange one) and it's held on with a peice of foam between the camera and the fuselage and painter tape pulled tight and wrapped around the fuselage. I use multiple peices and it's surprising strong. I have done this on many Planes and the camera has never moved.
@@pilot482 thanks, I’ll have to try that
@@pilot482 I tried Velcro on some landing lights once and they disappeared sometime during the flight

dangerous landing
sped up footage?
No. It's real time.
So if you tip the refrigerator towards the top guy to the angle you want. The bottom guy can tighten up underneath it to his chest. That way the top guy has leg and feet space. It's the conventional way through basement staircases as well
I dont use those straps unless i really have to and that is when a hand truck doesnt allow you to maneuver around tight spots.
Needed to shift the weight of the fridge on the strap so it was straight up and down, keep your back straight, arms locked, lift the fridge higher to clear the stairs. Lots of mistakes here
Thanks God, no one got hurt, i did that job and sometimes its fisical imposible to do fridges in places whit stairs, customers do not realize challeges on their properties, and most of the time dont apprciate the effort, this is a hard job, if you dont belive me, do it yourself.
