      Thank you. She really enjoys taking pictures of RC. Yes it's a very large model. I have a picture somewhere of my 800 Airwolf and the 800 MD-500E. The MD-500E makes the Airwolf look absolutely tiny. I found that most Roban Helicopters use 10in pilots but the MD-500E is better with a 12in.

    The blade track is not good yet. You can see it at 2:47 on the right. It will be even quieter when floating if you improve it. You can hear it too.

  • @oceanchaser
    @oceanchaser Před 10 měsíci

    Question are those the blades the helicopter came with from motion RC . They track nicley and you have the chopper running smooth no vibrations at all . I like the way you fly you go straight up then swing the tail around quiclky and let gravity swing the chopper down i like that style i will try that looks cool. Jim

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes they are the stock blades the kit came with. I used the Miniature Aircraft Koll Pro blade balancer to balance the main blades.

  • @oceanchaser
    @oceanchaser Před 10 měsíci

    ok looks like i may need to re balance the blades check the tracking and maybe make sure the swash plate does not have any looseness. Do you recommend changing out the swash plate with a different brand or will the one it comes with going to do the job. thanks you, for this help. Now i know what i must do when i get my helicopter from motion RC . look forward in seeing another flight video its one Beautiful helicopter.
    Jim

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 10 měsíci

      I used the stock swash as well. Balancing the 5 blade head was definitely a pain. I found vibration for a while. Balancing and tracking were key. Also checking all parts in the head for proper assembly. I do change out the ball links to SAB ball links because that are tighter and just better.

    i appreciated your advice the Egodrift motor is it better for the 800-size helicopter. Did you use the Castle creations Phoenix edge 160A esc with cooling fan to go with your motor that's from motion RC. Question do different motor have different spooling up sound. This will be my first electric helicopter all my others have been gas motors or nitro. I'm trying to figure out if i should go with the bundle they offer did you use there bundle package or got different servos, motor, ESC , ect . Any help would be great. thanks Jim

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 10 měsíci

      The 160A ESC is over kill. I used a Castle 120A HV ESC. Both my MD-500E and Airwolf only pull 47amps max. I changed the settings in the ESC to have a long spool time since its a lot of rotor to get moving. I only bought the helicopter from MotionRC. I bought the components that I prefer from other sites. The bundled servos are good but I used Torq servos from Helidirect. I am a Futaba guy so I am using the CGY755 gyro because i prefer the way it flies.

    I was thinking of getting the Spectrum NX 8 radio or the NX 10 ,i don't want to use my old futaba, for a new helicopter. How long is your flight do you use a timer in your radio, or is there a way to see how much power is in the lipo batteries in your helicopter, so i know how much longer i can fly with out damaging the lipo batteries. Monday im buying my helicopter from emotion RC same as yours its a real head turner the color arrangement really stands out in the sky thanks for your help! Jim .

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I personally use a Futaba 16IZ on this helicopter. I have a Spektrum NX10 but I am not a big Spektrum fan and it's not compatible with the gyro I picked. I have my timer set to between 5:30 - 6 min. Depending on what ESC you use, you can get a telemetry module for it. I am using a Castle 120HV with a telemetry unit to warn me if the batteries get to low. You will love the colors. My wife took some amazing pictures. They are on the MotionRC Community Facebook page if your interested (search for Adam Hill)

      I am not sure if it was the right thing to do but I used a magnetic digital angle gauge. I actually measured the angle of the blade grips. I placed the gauge on a grip to check the angle. I made sure to check the angle of each grip in the same location on the rotor head. It seemed to work well for me.

      I use 2 Genace 6s 5500mah for the 12s flight pack. I got them from Tower Hobbies. They are a little thick and 5000mah would be better but that's what i have for all my 6s and 12s aircraft. I use a 3s 2200mah battery (genace, pulse or glacier) for the radio with a Castle BEC Pro regulator set around 7.6-8.4 volts.

  • @oceanchaser
    @oceanchaser Před 10 měsíci

    question about servos, should i get analog, or digital, the analog if I'm correct have more torque if I'm correct. what do you use for your swash plate control and what type for your tail. There so many servos out there for sale? I want the best for a scale.

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 10 měsíci

      That is not correct. Do not use analog servos on this helicopter. They lack the torque and precision of digital servos. I can't really think of any reason nowadays to use analog servos. Digital work better and work better with gyros. I use Torq BLS2208 servos on the Cyclic and Torq BLS0704T servo on the tail. The tail is a 760us pulse servo so your gyro has to be capable of using those. The MKS servos on MotionRC that are recommended for all 800 size roban helicopter are also a good choice.

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 10 měsíci

      The 2 blade is more than enough. I tested the tail authority without main blades. I tried to yaw the helicopter by hand at flight RPM and I couldn't even move it an inch. The tail authority is super strong.

    Hello - I have the same Heli except it's the sheriff paint job.. On my first lift off the swash was super sensitive and I was wondering if you could share some of your settings. • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 6 měsíci

      @desertal102 hopefully I can help. I have not used thr Demon for Helicopters. Only the one for airplanes. I use a Futaba CGY755. It can be a very sensitive helicopter. The swash plate Cyclic does not need to move as far as 3D type helis. I use a collective pitch range of -2 to +9 degrees. My Cyclic would probably equal about 50-60% of normal travel. I also use about 20-25% expo on my Cyclic. Another thing I found was making sure everything is mechanically good. I am able to turn off the FBL on the Cyclic to see if the controls are not off centered. I adjust them as best I can mechanically and then turn the gyro back on.

    • @desertal102
      @desertal102 Před 6 měsíci

      Thank you for the reply - I will go back into the Demon programming and set the Aeil & Elev gains to 50% and test. If still sensitive, I'll try the expo route. I appreciate your advise. @@pilot482

    Question im building one of these.
    I see you have the main blades spin counter clockwise and tail spins in-ward toward the fuselage. When you give positive pitch I assume your swash plate moves upward?
    I believe I need to need to flip my L linkages around that come off the rotor head otherwise swash plate up would give negative pitch.

    • @pilot482
      @pilot482  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes. The manual showed trailing edge control of the main rotor blades. I flipped mine as well to make it so they are leading edge controlled. From what I have read it doesn't really make a difference with LE vs TE control except making it easier/logical to setup.

      Sorry but I am not familiar with any self leveling on any gyro. I don't use that type of stuff. I would say most new gyros out there would be able to handle 760up servos. Even an older Beastx (which I don't like) has that capability. I use Futaba gyros on all my Helicopters expect 1 which has the Beastx. I prefer the way Futaba helicopter gyro setup and fly. But that is my personal preference. The other gyro that I would be willing to try is the Demon gyro for helicopters.....I believe it's called the Axon.

      Right on. Based on the video, that’s a rock solid setup - don’t change. I have the Magnum PI, the Blue Jive and MH-6 all in 800 size. I’m running Ikon’s and Spektrum external receivers in mine. I transformed my tails to 4 blade instead of the two blade due to the TR length. You couldn’t land anywhere off hardstand without tearing up blades. I need to do more scale mods and pilots have to be 15” instead of the 12” in the 700 size.
      Nice flying. Very scale maneuvering and I like the added detail of the engine compartment scoop that you added.
