You're (Probably) Wrong About C-3PO | Star Wars LOREBREAKER
Recently, we discovered a gulf of knowledge. One of our latest videos talked about protocol droids. Specifically, it was about TC-14, and the 3PO series in general. This naturally involved a mention of C-3PO, but only as an example of his model. A lot of the comments on this video were identical.

A Very Brief Analysis: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars has a great deal of lore to analyse. Over time, the history of its universe has been modified. The most significant change was during the time of the Prequel Trilogy. A great many things were added, and some were altered. This can be hard to research, especially from official websites and wikis. We will infer what we can from the movie, combined with background information. This is no...

My issue with midichlorians is the idea that they create the force and make up the force entirely. The force is described as a mystical energy field, surrounding and penetrating and connecting...it simultaneously comes from life and yet is inbetween life; in the air and the void of space. It has seemingly some amount of intellect behind it that acts as the guiding hand of fate, which sounds a lot like a divinity. So long as midichlorians are merely the biological component of a more complex and mystical and ultimately invisible force like gravity I'm more or less okay with it...though it does apply strange rather non-mystical surrounding context that sounds a bit silly. It's sortof like if we found out that we had cells in our bodies that allowed us to interact with and control gravity...but gravity was still a force in and of itself. A constant. Midichlorians aren't literally connecting every living this in a big sentient web, unless we get into some really weird lovecraftian horror elements. I suppose I like to think of midichlorians as the 'penetrating' part of the force, not the energy field nor the connecting parts of the force...which are constants of the universe. I.e. laws of nature beyond our own, like gravity or even non measurable concepts like luck, fate, perhaps instict, or even souls. To say midichlorians are "where the soul is stored", for example, sounds perhaps archiac to me.

Having seen the original trilogy when I was a kid, I was quite excited that TFM was coming out. And it was...awful. I hated it so much I never saw episode II, though one of my friends told me the plot in great detail, taking almost an hour with it. It sounded so ridiculous, I don't think I ever laughed so much in my life. I did see episode III, and it was better than TFM, but that is a really low bar to clear. Some parts of that were so dumb I laughed out loud in the theater. Later I saw The Force Awakens, and my reaction was "I saw this movie in 1978", it was so similar to the original movie. I've never watched another Star Wars thing (movie or show) after that. TFA broke my Star Wars fandom completely. All that said, I'm interested to see what this video has to offer.

My piece on the prequels is like they aren’t very good, but it’s the kind of aren’t very good you get from someone so unbelievably passionate about a project that they have far too many ideas and avenues they want to explore and they kinda just go ham on all of them. George Lucas seems so enamored in those clips with how every little detail of each thing works, and it feels like he has all these really intricate pieces that he’s struggling to fit together. It’s really cute to watch him fiddle with the miniatures and yap about all these cute things he thought of. Even if the movies are bad, they’re still incredibly charming just from that perspective alone. Idk. I used to be obsessed with Star Wars as a kid and now I just don’t really care about it. But it’s heartwarming to see people talk about things they love so I couldn’t help myself and I wanted to join in. 😅

I definitely consider Star Wars fantasy, not Sci-Fy, and it never had anything to do with melee weapons. This is honestly the first time I've heard anyone suggest that the presence of melee weapons were a reason to consider it fantasy. It's fantasy because of the themes, narrative, setting, and magic system it employs. The themes regard emotion, good and evil. The narratives surround families or people with strong metaphysical ties as well as regarding prophecy and cosmic forces which guide narratives towards certain eventualities. The setting is in a 'other' world which has no diagetic connection to our universe and, indeed, identifies more with the past than the future (both explicitely and thematically). There is a fairly soft magic system consisting primarily of the Force and Hyperspace both of which are not really explained (don't say midiclorians as they don't explain the Force just people's connections to it) and mostly work as the narrative needs them to. All these factors make Star Wars feel much more like fantasy and it's why it doesn't feel like Sci-Fy despite appearing like it. In contrast, Sci-Fy often contains themes which connect more overtly to modern society. The narratives surround exploration, the mystery/fear of the unknown, and/or survival. The setting is our own future or present, directly connecting to our timeline. The magic systems in place are usually so 'hard' that most wouldn't even consider them magic systems. Instead there is technology which is generally familiar to us and works by a logic that our own techonology does just in a more advanced form. How this techonology works is often key to the narrative or story in some ways. I would never consider either genre to be at all defined by the weapons being used that's not how any genre is defined.

  • @benjaminhilsdon2238

In regards to the 'crusier' thing it's worth noting that that the concept of a "cruiser" in regards to ships is one thing but I don't see a reason to assume the naming conventions of the Star Wars universe are making use of US Naval norms. A "cruiser" is only "something that cruises". I feel it's worth noting that on Earth, "cruiser" can also refer to an abstract calssification of motorcycle which as nothing to do with it's size. This also, less commonly, refers to cars. Padme's ship being called a "crusier" never really seemed odd to me as it does seem like a ship who's primary purpose is to go on a cruise of some kind. It's an unarmed luxury yatch. Calling it a cruiser would be intuitive if we didn't so quickly think of cruisers in a naval military context. Even IN the naval context, "cruiser" origionally referred to a ship's mission rather than the category the vessel itself fell into.

I now know what the phrase "more power to you" means. At max, no one talks about a piece of media they don't like for longer than 2 hours uninterrupted. They tend to burn out, lose breath or if making it into a video, they eventually decide to scrap the project. It's just too long and too upsetting. After a point, they realize it's not worth the time. On the other end, people who like something will tend to tirelessly discuss and learn more about it. They could spend seemingly all day on this topic. Their energy, at the very least, outweighs the negative views of the former. I'm going to start watching the video now and if you say this movie sucks six hours in you are either lying or I'm stupid.

I did not like this review, the gimic itself is good but the execution is awful. The extreme bloating to make it to the time like: Reviews and walthroughs of multiple games, joke clips that do not match the content and run too long and "fixes" to the plot all do not fit in lore analysis in a maximum length video. The inconsistent tone perfectly matches the phantom menace but going from long list of information to implied but inappropriate jokes is jarring. The jokes about Disney star wars makes it unclear which cannon it is referring to and through hate i found a reason for holdo to keep secrets as they have just found out that they are being tracked though hyperspace. Ignores some major arguments against the film so they have no defence. Has an argument for star wars being sci fi but does not discuss the wizards and magic being a major plot in all films. This and the plinket review are different things about the same subject so why compare a film review to lore analysis. Lastly this video is filled with opinions surrounded with reaserch to make them sound creddible (trying to find sizes of ships by number of hyper cannons). I watched the whole thing and had to leave a comment on how feel so i can let it go but there are positives.

    • @thebreadcircus

Check your formula: you're trying to calculate radius × 2 × π. This is only the correct way if you know the radius. Dimensions of the Lucrehulk specify the diameter as being about 3km. Now, we could work out the radius, but the formula would be diameter ÷ 2 × 2 × π. If you know a thing or two about maths, you might be aware that we can simplify that equation. Dividing the diameter by two to get the radius is cancelled out when you multiply the radius by two. A simpler way to accomplish the same thing would be to look up the formula to calculate a circle's circumference from its diameter, instead of radius. This turns out to be diameter × π, which is what we said in the video. Another option would be to remember what pi is. The entire point of pi is that the circumference of a circle is hard to measure, but the diameter is easy. Pi is, by definition, the number you multiply a circle's diameter by to get the circumference. Keeping that in mind makes it very easy to remember the formula for circumference. -DZ

but thinking back to it, a more accurate calculation would have been with the middle fiber instead of the diameter, the arms appear to be around 700 meter thick, so the middle fiber would be (3000-(700*2)+3000)/2 *pi so 7225 meter, and thats without the hole in the front, it look around the same with as the arms, so i'd say the lucrehulk has an " unwrapped" lenght of 6.5 km

    • @mattherto7278
      @mattherto7278 Před 23 hodinami

@@thebreadcircus no, what i meant is that the circumference would not be a good measure because the arms have some thickness, so if you unwrap it along the circumference , you'll get a lot of empty spaces, so to keep it "full" we calculate the middle fiber, the middle between the inner and outer diameter.

I just want to know what music was around the 2:45:00 mark. Was that part of the soundtrack for the podracer game? I'll also say about Maul spinning on tatooine, he has a large lightsaber. You could equate it to a great sword maybe since its large and presumably heavy, the hilt I meant cuz I know the blades have no weight. Generally with great swords its actually not bad to spin. Great swords are large and when you spin them they end up having a lot of momentum so spinning with them and going along with the flow of the swing can be really good since trying to stop the sword would be tiring and slow/awkward. Also the original Sith were an alien race on a planet with a large dark side presence for some reason. Might be an explanation for that idk. In an old republic war the planet was glassed and most of the OG sith died. The Sith ofc recovered but the OG alien Sith seem not to have done so well. Well ok there were like dark side jedaii ofc. Those could be called the OG sith but a lot of the Sith were from these aliens so there could have been some mixing? I'm not super topped up on my lore my bad

Small issue with your description of the Jedi Mind Trick in this analysis. (I am barely more educated than a le person so what I’m about to say may be wrong feel free to correct me.) The fact it is called a “Jedi” mind trick is likely more of a general terminology than a strict categorization of who can use the ability. It is unlikely that highly trained Sith, for example, would be unable to perform this technique. The ability is most likely referred to as a “Jedi” Mind Trick because most people in the galaxy have at least a passing understanding of what the Jedi are but most would be unfamiliar with the Sith beyond them being “bad Jedi.” With regard to the ability requiring a somatic component, that’s not necessarily true. When trying to mind trick Jabba, Luke did not use a somatic gesture and still seemed to think his ability would work. While somatic components are commonly used with many force techniques, I am not aware of any lore or rule which states that such a gesture is required for the ability to function. Darth Vader, for example, was able to use telekineses in his fight against Luke on Bespin without using somatic components commonly used with this ability. All of this is to say that these points in particular you’ve brought up are not necessarily deal breakers for why she would be unable to use a Jedi Mind Trick. The fact that she has known that the force is real for about an hour and has never seen a Mind Trick used or trained in the force for literally any amount of time, that’s still pretty much a 100% guarantee she should be unable to use it in that situation. It would have actually made for a pretty funny scene if she tried to use it thinking it was some innate ability and the Stormtrooper just says no.

This was pretty good, but surprisingly short. I feel like you missed out on talking about some things, but overall I still really enjoyed the very intricate analysis and hope you do more soon. Also, the captions were a very nice touch, I wish more vides actually used them. Also also, I have no idea what that Teras Kasi game is, but I'm glad there's a likable Hoar in it.

Let’s just say if I didn’t have to sleep or work, I would have watched this in one sitting. Please do one for every movie.
