And what's the other possibility.. because the first one we all know.. is there any other that doesn't involve having the old turbo?
Is it worth replacing or just take it as a loss and move on especially if its a problem with these engines.
What milage was on this particular engine
111000
Is it due to the modern day diesel not doing dpf regen enough
@@darijomar2153 Better with DPF Removed, its a bad system. It looked like it sized on No3 and locked up then snapped crank
Have you had many encounters with the wet belt (shivering 🥶) Ford engines IE Ranger's Transit
@@darijomar2153 Sorry No
What if the marks are not aligned , you should put the engine on TDC ...how you do that on this engine please
The bottom mark lines up with nothing, its a rough 12 oclock. Follow the piont of the vido is find true 12oclock
I have Mazda CX5 2016 2.2 diesel 175 hp, and my chain on oil pump broke, what is the cost of whole repair estimated if you know?
How many KMs when it broke?
@@speedfreek7627 182000km
Makes perfect sense ..I've oniy done this on my motircycle which went well inc clearances.. I know I've commented b4 but what about the oil chain ? I've seen videos where some mark the chain /cog but other than the balance shaft does timing have much to do with oil chain? I used to think the oil chain just. Rotates the pump to lube things in the engine? I'm aware of the pin that sits in the oil cog btw ty
thank you
Colin the other chains on the bottom sprocket are for ?? And should they be done with it?
oil pump chain and yes they should be changed
On the bottom there are other chains, what are they for and should they be done also
Same procedure on a 16 CX-5 2.5L ?
Should be but never done that engine
@@colinhagan4378 thanks for the quick response! I didn’t expect that being that this is such an old video.
Do you know what year they changed the chain and sprockets in production
sorry no
Did some research last night, I've opted to just replace the chains regardless
Apparently 2017 is the change, the newer oil pump sprocket has 3 dots instead of one on it
Its a complete modified kit which replaces the 2 dot version. It will fit any 2.2 skyactiv engines
Much appreciated Colin Thank you
Hello 👋 I am buying a 2010 Mazda 3 2.2 diesel 110kw version. It has got 199.000km. How can I check timing chain condition? What you suggest me to do to make this engine last without problems? What service I need to do urgent?
change the oil and filter and fuel filter, replace the injector washers and remove the dpf system
Thanks for this colin, im currently at 10.5° so its happening soon and i will follow this process like gospel on my 2010 M6 😊
Is Mazda cx5 2.2 skyactive diesel 2013 dpf also located infront of the cat element as in this video. Don’t want to smash out cat instead of dpf. Many thanks
The cat is alwasy first from the turbo, then dpf. but yes same idea
For all of you guys that have issues with this oil sump, there is an even better design which is completely flat at the drain side and can empty all of the oil, look for RIDEX 592O0154. Long live the 1.6 HDI!
Was it a turbo?
How about crankshaft
There is no bottom mark to line up, once you take the slack form the chain then its at the correct posistion
What chain brand is good
Do you offer engine rebuilding?
Hi Colin what timing chain brand do you use is fAi timing chain a good brand
Hi, i have been using this kit for years and it has never failed yet www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254907544131
@@colinhagan4378 Link is expired what kit is that :)
Well everyone says take the gasoline skyactiv and forget the diesel. Yet, so many will still choose the diesel to save how much? A litre per 100 kilometers?
Is this the same for the R2AA 2.2 as I've done my chain and it's come back with 8.25 degrees out, however I never moved any pulley to take up slack, thanks in advance (I did align and do 12o clock)
Yes, its the same. take up the slack then the bottom gear is at true 12o clock
@@colinhagan4378thanks Colin, I know for next round
if you empty the cDPF the turbo will spool like crazy and probably blow up right? and how much black smole will be flowing out of the exhaust every 2 mins ?
what the video again, I only remove the DPF filter and leave the cat inside, the cat will filter the any fumes and smoke. The turbo will work just fine regardless of the DPF/CAT unit being empty or not
@@colinhagan4378 I've already done it. I drilled a hole on. My Dpf.. Not fully emtied..the car turbo now spools like mad and blows black smoke out. I haven't touched my cat.
Plus it sounds really rough and loud.
I would need to see it and listen to it, where is the car and where to you live
Brilliant video Colin, I have a question. Can the Mazda 6 2.2 skyactiv timing chain be replaced with the engine in situ or does it have to be removed?
Its engine out job, there is just no room
@@colinhagan4378 arrrrgghhh...OK, thanx for that I will dig out my engine hoist!!
Ive seen 1 or 2 vids in situ but its left mount iff engine on jack up and down malarky @petedust69
I still remember you fondly for putting me off buying a Maxda 6 2.2 diesel. I love the Mazda 6, but I can't be doing with that sort of risk hanging over my car driving. Cheers!
Thanks
At 4:35 what exactly did you say Mazda would say??
Hi colin connecting rod cap torque for this engine.
Do you suggest changing the timing chain at any set interval or only when symptoms arise?
there is no interval for it so I would just lissten for symptoms
Man that’s good way to explain the timing. With that theory you can’t go wrong
thanks
Where’s part 1 ?
Colin could you send me a contact as want to book my Mazda with you to have some work done

The 2.0 ltr Petrol G is apparently solid as a rock
Traded mine in Colin, loved the car, bought it new, but only did 18000 miles in four years, after the first year it needed all new injectors as DPF filling up due to over fueling, was spot on for the remaining 3 years, just got a very special engine SKYACTIV X I hope it's reliable, it's a unleaded that acts like a diesel
Good video, very clear and I appreciate it (as somebody who's looking at a model with this engine).
I replied your other video In TRADE, bought 2.2 SkyA-D on 118k Mazda history to Sept 2022 at 115k ( 2016 Manual Tourer ) When cold 30 mins nice normal punchy drive, lots power Motorway speeds engine shuts down Oil Light / EML come on after 30 mins ( maybe oil got hot thinner ? ) Got off motorway after 5 or so re-starts, drove well cross country 40 mph roads thereafter, got back 100 miles Taxed, scanned , driven few times locally 5 miles. each way, again , lots power My thoughts is .... strainer or pump carbonised? ?? OR MUCH WORSE, terminal ? Rang previous customer, she had similar back at 115k service, Mazda serviced and re-set and drove another 3.5k Is it worth what do you think sump off loo k? Since scanned P055& one other code I reset codes and they won't come back on but car motorway failed me 5/8 times over 15 miles before getting off motorway Thanks Dan
I have P055F P0524 Low Oil Pressure Mazda 2.2 Skyactiv D, running nicely, shutting down motorway, EML and red oil light come on together lose power
Engine is screwwd
@@colinhagan4378 think it’s oil pressure. When cold 30 mins great. A lot power smooth. 30 mins in hot oil lose power. Pressure on scanner idle Lorna KPa. Driven 30 mins KPa scanner stays about right. Then shuts down after 30 mins at 110kph motorway only
My car ran for about 60 seconds without the oil filter not properly seated spraying oil all under the car. I'm worried my engine looks like this on the inside...Seems to drive fine though.
I should be ok providing it didnt run out off oil
Hello Collin, is this a 2.2 MZR-CD engine, with the turbo? My oil level gets to X in less than 10 000 kms, i do not have debris on the oil pump filter, but do you reckon my washers are gone (160k kms) or the DPF is blocked? Although no black smoke comes out.
sounds like dpf is blocked
Bought the skyactiv x petrol engine, it's Very clever compression engine
Just had my local mechanic tell me that my Mazda6 2.2 diesel (2016) would need a new reconditioned engine to sort out head gasket issue if I wanted to keep the car. Had bought the car used at 130,000 miles only a few months ago...
job well done👍
Is this a diesel?
yes
All asian diesel engines suck balls....wtf mazda this problem appear since 2003 with the RF5C...how much time do you need to resolve this????
Well Colin, I've got rid of my Mazda 2.2 diesel, I can sleep at night now, an excellent engine ruined by that DPF
Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 31E / ECCS 2P0340 - Camshaft position sensor. Error Message : Faulty.Pulled back home Engine Oil Level Ok. Coolant Level Ok. Engine has lost compression by the sounds of it. Is not turning over very fast at all. It is mazda6 2015 2.2 Diesel skyactiv,69 800 miles . It just died while it was driven,1 min after i started it.
timing chain has jumped or snaped
Can I ask you a question about the engine. I have a possibility to buy a mazda 6 2.2 skyactiv 150hp 170000km but there is the problem with oil pressure. While normal driving (hot or cold) the oil pressure will not light, but when I drive it more dynamic the light will show up. Allegedly the car was at official dealer and they said that the oil pump chain is stretched, what I pretty do not belive but who knows. I am a mechanik so some sort of work I can manage myself on this car. How can I diagnose if it is just the typical problem or there will be a problem on crankshaft, bearings, etc... Replacing the timing chain, oil pump chain, oil sump, camshaft, fuel injector seals is no problem but total dismantling of the engine and problems on crankshaft, main and rod bearing is a no go for me... Thank you.
if the chain is not broken then you can get away with replacement of the oil pump chain, then drive it a see how it goes
WHAT ABOUT MOT HERE IN THE UK WONT THIS CAUSE A MOT FAIL FOR SURE
Hi Colin, Oil pump chain just snapped on Mazda 6, 2016 110k miles. Engine cut out as soon as oil light came on (I hope/assume that's ecu to protect engine)... no metal particles visible in sump. Is serious engine damage inevitable or is it worth fiting new chain on off chance. Your channel's great by the way.
Hi , I would not just fit a new chain, if you do it will run ok for while but it will start to sound Ratley and then it will go bang, its going to need a rebuild
@@colinhagan4378 Ok, thanks for the heads-up. Not sure I can afford a rebuild so might just have to cross my fingers! Cheers.
Colin, as far as you know do the latest Mazda models still using this engine suffer from the same problems? If so does that mean there still hasn't been a general design recall or injector modification, crazy if not.
Mazda does not know how to make diesels, it has always had problems with diesels except when it has had them supplied.
