Makes perfect sense ..I've oniy done this on my motircycle which went well inc clearances.. I know I've commented b4 but what about the oil chain ? I've seen videos where some mark the chain /cog but other than the balance shaft does timing have much to do with oil chain? I used to think the oil chain just. Rotates the pump to lube things in the engine? I'm aware of the pin that sits in the oil cog btw ty
Hi Colin, just swapped my badly worn exhaust camshaft. camshaft sprocket lined up ok with gold chain link fine, seems to be in time ok, piston 1 at top when camshaft at tdc, but car will not start, was running and starting ok before, any clues? Didn't take front engine cover off- prob should to check bottom marker?
Hi, I would remove the front cover and start from scratch, sounds like the timing is out., note there are also alingment dots on other side of cmahaft gears
@@colinhagan4378 yea those dots also line up grand. wondering if over torquing the camshaft caps might be the cause. Prob will end up with cover off, wish i had an x-rayer!
Hello. I changed my exhaust camshaft and sprocket is line up with edge of cylinder head and I have question about the dots from other side of sprockets. They should be exactly horizontally with edge of cylinder head or they can be little bit lower? Thank you.
Great video sir, I've got a oil deterioration code on my CX5 2014. Driving then low power. Now there is a noise when revving. It has done 50000miles. Just wanted to know if these symptoms are related to the low pressure oil and cam chain problem? Also where do you connect an oil pressure gauge on the CX5 2.2l engine Thanks in advance sir
@@colinhagan4378 ok cool i done my last year November and the mechanic claimed he use MAZDA Original part from, now some other mechanic told me is 11.5stretched, does that means i need a replacement or is it just a case of adjusting the chain?. Thanks a lot in advance
Hello sir,i just wanted to ask you how often do i need to change the chain on my mazda 6 saloon 2014 110kw 2.2d engine and does the oil problem affect my mazda also? Do i need to clean the siave? Sorry for my English :)
Fab video and explanation 2 questions can it be done in situ? And if you turn crank at the bottom which makes full sense to take up slack won't the marker then move ? It's ar 12 o'clock when positioning the chain. If you turn crank it'll surely move and be off ? This is certainly not questioning or doubting your knowledge I'm simply trying to get a bearing on it thank you
Its realy difficult to do in situ. The reason you turn the crank to take up the slack is to place all the slack on the tensioner side of the chain. Remember the chain is marked so once you place the chain on each corasponding mark its NOT timed cooreclty until all the guides are fitted and all the slack is at the tensoner side
@@colinhagan4378 it makes sense of course so u take engine out to do it yes ? So you get bottom crank pully at tdc first align top 2 cogs (crank shaft cogs) fit chain to top then fit bottom cogs onto chain and slide it on and it should remain at tdc . Then with chain on at coloured links in their position you take up slack (this is why I get confused ) you turn/crank at bottom ? To take up slack? If so don't this then alter tdc ? I get the slack bit for sure . Basically once all slack and tensioner is on everything should be lined up ?
No this dose not alter TDC. There is no mark for TDC. Turn the crank until all the slack is removed from the right side of the chain and the chain rest tightly into the right guide, all the slack should now be at the tensioner side, the timing is now set. Its the distance between the colured links that sets the timing.
@@colinhagan4378 that is so interesting I love learning this Stoughton I truly thought it was more about the alignment of the markers of top cog markings thank you know your stuff thanks
I don't look at timing Marks. I put everything on top dead centre and then I get the middle of the rock in 4th cylinder. That is always perfect timing.
Man that’s good way to explain the timing. With that theory you can’t go wrong
thanks

On the bottom there are other chains, what are they for and should they be done also

They can be a little lower. You should line the dots on each cam first then line up the main mark with the edge of cylinder head
@colinhagan4378 that makes sense ....only time I've done this is on my motircycle (1402cc dohc engine )
Do you suggest changing the timing chain at any set interval or only when symptoms arise?
there is no interval for it so I would just lissten for symptoms

Yes they are related to low oil pressure. sounds like you have a major engine problem if your getting a noise when you rev it.

Mazda ONLY

There is no set interval for replacing the chain. You cant clean the oil pick up goze, only replace it and yes the oil problems effect your model.
Thank you!
Chain at Mazda 2.2 sky activ should be last for 250 000 km or more
