I think it was unsafe for that fire fighter to take the hose away from the person putting on PPE he did not have a mascon or any protection and was very close to the vehicle or something exploded or fire flared up he would not be properly protected by dimension reading in whatever’s coming out of that burning vehicle 12:50

I was an instructor at a regional fire academy for 27 years, you are 100% correct on the advice you gave. I told people that were interested in joining the Fire academy to run at least 5 miles and to be able to do at least 100 GOOD pushups ( no butts in the air and touch your chest to the ground). Learn how to press and iron a uniform no Irish pendants and how to shine your boots. Know how to work as a team. And if you worked as a firefighter before never ever say that’s not how my fire department does it. God gave you 2 eyes, 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason
.. do more looking and listening and less talking. A cadets job interview starts the day they show up to the academy.

The Winnipeg firefighters are fully prepared to fight the fire soon as they arrive the pumper has about 500 gallons water for the first attack line and they would catch a hydrant on the way in😊

hey I'm thinking about joining the fire force somewhere in life and I'm wondering if you encountered at least a few women in this industry and if yes how was their relationship with the rest of crew

I carry with me the night a woman called 9-1-1 and the police department (the 9-1-1 PSAP in our city) transferred a call reporting a well involved structure fire. The caller was a woman trapped inside. This was in the days where each city fire department was assigned a lone dispatcher on 24 hour shift as part of the fire suppression battalion. She was calling from her bedroom and the fire was rapidly advancing up the stairs toward her position, and it was moving fast. I toned out a full residential structure fire response with medics and an ambulance before returning to the line to help her identify the best escape route. I tried everything I could think of to get her out the 2nd story window. She calmly described everything happening around her. Locating her exact interior position in my mind, on the Bravo side at the Alpha corner, first second story side window closest to the street. I quickly advised the first-in engine of her location in the house and which exact window to ladder. I advised they would find her lying on the left side of the bed directly across the window, against the wall. No matter what I tried to do to instruct her how to safely escape, she was so weak, all she could do was try to stay awake. So, I prayed to God to not let the phone ring anymore so we could talk. And in His great mercy, the Lord did just that. Her last words before passing out were, "I'm sorry I can't do it, I'm so sleepy...I'm sorry..." Right after that, I heard the ladder hit the window sill, glass breaking and boots on the floor. There was muffled shouting through breathing apparatus masks, the sound of the phone being kicked aside and the next thing was, "Command from Engine 4, we are bringing down one fatality..." A braver, more mentally and intectually aware human under extreme stress I have never met, before or since. She was dying from smoke inhalation in her own burning house and I'm just grateful that I could stay on the line with her to the end. My career is over now and I am old and worn out from countless tragedies, but this decent woman brings back a horrifying memory of the very best in a person holding it together when all hope is gone. To this day, I still grieve for her. Sometimes you do not even need to be on scene to help a total stranger get through the worst day of their life when they need you most.

Very good comment regarding the accessibility of apparatus to the general public. I see the points you are making an agree 100%. There are significant dangers that are presented when John Q public gets involved with the fire apparatus. Volunteer or paid the risk of serious injury or death is alway present and untrained persons getting involved without direction can and do exacerbate the danger.

Do you have a video about how to deal with retaliation at work? My boyfriend is a firefighter and he’s being bullied at his station. He doesn’t know who to reach out to as his chief doesn’t take him seriously. I feel bad for my boyfriend. He’s such a genuine person. Idk why he’s getting the worst treatment at all. He’s on probation and I get that rookies get these kind of treatment but it shouldn’t be tolerated. It’s not good for mental health and welfare of a person. I wish you could mentor my boyfriend. I feel like they will fail him just because they don’t like him. 😱

Love the comment to mastering and understanding a truck and a tool as a volunteer currently as someone who is working to being a professional full time. In our volunteer department becoming proficient in all pur tools is necessary due to the nature of smaller volunteer department but mastering a tool can be super helpful as it also allows you to handle maintenance and work with them. As well to the trucks knowing were things are is super important as a person who has most of our equipment memorized location allows me to find and often use those tools when necessary.

I know the volunteers don't give a shit about people "s property That's Obvious and the paid fire fighters don't give a shit either white hat or not there will never be any type of leadership coming from fire fighters until they get to the scene hook the hose up and start putting water on the fire. I'd like to chime in from the wildfire side. Adding to your points, I strongly feel in both the structure and wild sides. Your emotions need to be on switch! When you you're on a call that very well may be person's or family's worst nightmares come true. You need to be able to able to leave your emotions with that call being clear and fresh for the next call. When you show up, you are a symbol of hope and strength for those in need. If you're a mess from the last call, it will show and reflect on the situation at hand. Second, this line of work will put your relationships to the test. Out of the 5-6 months I'm on for fire season, I may be lucky enough to have a total of 1-2 weeks' time combined I get to spend with my wife. I can't speak for the structure side, but in wildland we may be on for up to 18 hour days 13 days straight. Only to get 1 day off to handle what you need, then right back at it for another 13. At times, in the middle of nowhere, having zero communication with the outside world. For all of you who still wish to give up your lives for the service of strangers, I wish you the best and stay safe out there.

That is inexcusable. On scene for at least 8 minutes to the best I can tell and limp lines laying in the front yard. That reverse lay couldn't have been more that a couple hundred feet. That's on the engineer and whoever was taking the hydrant. If it was a hydrant issue, then they're not doing the yearly checks.

I have complete respect for firefighting since my dad was a captain. But it's important to be clear about the ugly side of it. Firefighters tend to be first on the scene and the things they see can be traumatizing. People need to understand its not all good. The things you see can greatly effect your mental state of mind and cause ptsd. Which in turn can create stress on you and your family. You can't save everyone and some situations may hit close to home, prepare for that.

Well, having some firefighters knowing how to use their equipment would be a good fundamental job to know. Everything else means nothing to person watching their home burn down. Nope not good enough, I would have grabbed the water hose and started putting water on the fire. Better than what these people were doing. Why have a fire dept if they can't put out basic house fire. A water hose was better than what they had going. Making excuses for incompetence.
