Another thing that people ignore about 4k gaming that makes me laugh a lot is upscaling. The exact same guys that will say: “upscaling is really good nowadays I have no issue using it” Will say “I don’t need a very high end CPU because I play at 4k” Dude if you use upscaling you’ll raise your frame rates to numbers similar to those of lower resolutions, and you’ll get CPU bottleneck, this happened to me a lot with a 5600X and a 4090, some games I was setting 56-60fps with 99% GPU usage , and using DlSS quality will only barely increase the gps to maybe 65, and GPU usage would go down to 70% upgrading to a 5800X3D made me jump to 80 or 90 fps in any of this games and now GPU usage is between 90-99% still slightly cpu bottlenecked but a great improvement, a 7800X3D would get completely rid of the bottleneck for sure. So if Upscaling is so important nowadays, it should be considered when testing CPUs.

Further evidence of how good the 7800X3D is for gaming. And as such I disagree with the conclusion, you don't go get the 7700/7700X if you're a gamer. You get the 7800X3D! That 3D cache in the 7800X3D will boost lower 1% FPS a lot more than the 7700X can! It's how the 5800X3D was able to match the 7700X despite being on DDR4! Do NOT underestimate how important the 3D-cache is for gamers!!!

Does that affect 14600k/kf 14700k/kf cpu-s also?

I have always been sensitive to latency but not to framerate, so I just don't understand the frame generation technologies. It seems like an absolute gimmick that people just delude themselves into using.

The RTX 5060/5060 Ti NEEDS to have at least 12GB of VRAM to even be worth considering, but knowing NVIDIA, they'll increase the prices because there's more VRAM.

My only takeaway from this video is CPU for 4K doesn't really matter since you've compared an exceptionally old CPU to the best gaming CPU and it still didn't show great difference despite comparing it in not only other resolutions but also in infamously CPU-heavy games. I currently use a 12400F and 4070Ti S and I'm pretty sure I would gain very little in gaming upgrading to a better CPU. My actual reason for wanting to upgrade my CPU is for productivity. I wish this was a more proper test so it would actually be useful. I mean why even include 1080p and 1440p on a video that has 4K in the title? That's ridiculous.

I got xmp on, curve optimizer -30 on all cores, pbo on, and +10% extra performance from my GPU with 100% stability.. Only thing which took some effort was the gpu tuning, but it's not rocket science. All depends on the hardware you got whether it's worth it, but for a lot of people it is.

Thanks for this video. Though I wished you could have used a mid range Nvidia GPU and an older Intel CPU thrown in. Currently I am using a 8th gen Intel i5 8600k mildly overclocked to 4.7ghz and RTX 4070. And gaming on a 4k 144hz display. I know that my CPU might bottleneck my GPU, but I am interested to know how serious would be the bottleneck on AAA games.

If you're gaming at 4K, that means that likely the focus is more on eyecandy than framerate. That also means that "Low" quality setting is simply out of the question and even '"Medium" is iffy. Honestly, I think these settings are for gamers on a tight budget(like my friend that plays CP2077 at FHD with a GTX970+i5-8500) or competitive gamers who want to achieve "clarity"(and max possible fps of course) by dumbing down fidelity.

Today I received my R7 5700x3D to upgrade my R5 5500, paired with 6800xt, 2400mhz 16GB RAM. Honestly the 5800x3D is the real champ but in reality both 5600x3D and 5700x3D are the better value options. Unless youre autistic and need to watch clock speeds all the time, I would recommend cheaper x3Ds, the better deal you can find. For microcenter 5600x3D seems like a no brainer but at $190-$230 price point for a cpu I rather have 8 cores @4.1GHZ than 6 cores at @4.4GHZ. Logic is simple, the cheapest x3Ds chip should be the best value to performance (all chips have V-cache that provides the real performance benefit rather than slightly faster clock speeds) therefore 5700x3D vs 5600x3D is just $40 difference for adding 2-cores/4-threads that will enable you better snappiness, multitasking, longevity, streaming, workstation. If you only play 1080p you could use the 5800x3D then sure, best am4 chip, extra $80 for it compared to its siblins. 1440p/4k players should save the $80 and use $$ towards a GPU upgrade. 5800x3D>5700x3D>5600x3D -Best Overall Performance 3-5years 5700x3D>5600x3D>5800x3D -Best Value CPU Overall 3-4years 5600x3D>5700x3D>5800x3D -Best Value CPU Gaming 2-3years Folks with no microcenter access should go with 5700x3D ($200-$230)no brainer unless 5800x3D drops under $300, otherwise the 5700x3D is most underrated CPU. One aspect i don't see discussed much is that CPU is responsible for more than frame rate. CPU affects loading times and general responiveness. I remember playing Prey 2017 on a Ryzen 3600 and GTX 1080 Ti at 1440p with mostly high settings. I upgraded to Ryzen 5800X and was very surprised to see how faster the menu transitions have become and how inventory management felt immediately better and noticeably snappier.

Still have my GTX 1080 Ti after upgrading my motherboard, RAM, and i7 13700K. Wanted to upgrade my GPU but the scalping and poor cost to performance lately made me hang on to my 1080 Ti and spending all of that money on every other aspect of my build.

I bought a Gigabyta Aorus Pro motherboard, a 3700X, a Radeon RX 580, and 32 gigabytes of GSkill 3600 DDR in 2020. I run that machine hard daily for 4 years. This year I've upgraded the video card to an RX 6700 and dropped in a $300 5800X3D. I am definitely GPU bound but I am also set for 4-5 more years. I might buy another video card? Other than going from Sandy to Ivy bridge, no other platform has even come close to keeping me going 8 years. I think I got 5 years out of that board.

There are so many more cases that are not accounted for in all these reviews. Not everyone has a clean lean windows install. You sometimes have more software running in the background. Discord, RGB stuff, Spotify, i like to alt-tab into chrome (god forbid) while waiting for online matches to start. So even at 2k, which i like for 165fps gaming on my 7900XT, a CPU with some spare power is good to have. Last but but not least, if you go for high end GPU, and plan to hold on to your PC for a few years, I believe it is smart to invest and get a high end CPU to go along with it. I just got the 7800X3D + Asus TUF 7900XT OC - Couldnt be happier really. Thats not to say i choase the high end products of all categorizes. For case, ram, cpu cooler i went to products that will give me 80% performance for 20% of the price. Spent around 2 hours undervolting the CPU and GPU, which lowered temps by an impressive amount, and I am very happy with the result. Moved from i7 8700k / 2080 Super OC, and couldn't be happier. I never experienced this kind of snoothbess before. Suddenly enjoying my G Pro Super light much much more :)

ive tended to play games that are more cpu intensive. and im certainly wallets limited. so it seems these days the dollars i spend are about even steven for cpu and gpu. each to their own though of course.

How about you compare cpus from the same generation e.g. 7800x3d vs 7600 - that’s more interesting as anyone who is building a new rig to game at 4K could potentially save some money on their CPU
