So I have a tube in my spoked wheel I got off right now. Will I risk pinching it? It’s only 300 miles old I’m reusing it.
There's a chance of pinching the tube with any tire change process, so go about it with the same care you would otherwise.
Of course things have changed a little bit in 6 years but this was a good enough presentation that I was able to figure the rest out. But yeah, it seems too convoluted for what should be a simple drag and drop. I suspect the Garmin (Nav VI) doesn't have enough horsepower (memory and processing speed) to do the conversions. I think I'll use Basecamp for planning routes, getting a Google route into gpx, etc. etc. was just a little much.
Of course, because archaic software better suits archaic stand alone units. At this point, TRO uses RWGPS for turn-by-turn and the Garmin to zoom in on road names (in addition to locating/navigating to abandoned gas stations).
Whats the point of having two different horns, 1 on each side? And how do you even move so fast bro?
Teleportation takes time to master.
Well sum bitch. I figured out about 3/4 of this using two spoons but it just wouldn't pop on a dead flat tire. Tried that third one and presto chango, massive difference. 👍👍
What did you use for lube
Window cleaner. Best not to use dish soap as it can cause corrosion.
Got it, thanks!
This just saved my upcoming motorcycle trip after trying to break this darn bead for over an hour. Thank you! I'll definitely be using this method going forward.
Glad it worked out, though this is intended as a roadside solution. For in house tire changing, we recommend a modern/mechanical tire changer (powered or not). No-Mar, Rabaconda, etc.
good job. same idea as motion pro bead breaker.
Basically, yeah. Only difference is the lesser number of tools being stowed. Roadside solution only.
@@TheRidingObsession motion pro bead breaker is only 2 pieces and includes tire irons. your video using tire irons is pretty slick though as most have some tire irons around.
Looks like you have a preferred solution. Great!
Are those lenses actually supposed to be reflective? Mine don't reflect at all. Had to use 3M reflective strips
Not as far as we remember, no. That's one reason Robin pulled it apart to make it so.
I've seen guys use a small flat shovel to break the bead.
That's higher tech than most TRO writers can afford ;-)
Dog making a hasty exit.
7 years later and the updater isn't any better. Here I am on CZcams trying to make it work. The quick-start guide was useless and so is the updater. ugh!
Yes and yes. We've felt your pain. Watch the vid as many times as you need and reboot your computer accordingly. Eventually, a pattern of operation will find you and you'll succeed (and then eventually forget and have to watch all of our noise again LOL).
I wanna set that with a GT tire. The Mich's are butter compared to other tires. I've changed dozens over the years doing track days. AND, I learned the hard way NOT keeping my rims on 2x4's. Cost me a set of rotors. These floating rotors can bend much easier than the old school fixed ones. We need the video of the cussing and swearing/throwing the tire iron around 🤣🤣🤣
You're right. For a dual compound tire, the Mich sidewalls are definitely more forgiving than that of the Dunlop Roadsmarts. With the Dunlops, it's as if they forgot to turn off the steel belt machine and let them run all the way to the edge 🤣. HOWEVER ... for per-instance, roadside, ain't no other way solutions, this is a good technique to know. At no point in the video or article are we suggesting this to be "the" way to change tires. More, it's "a" way to change tires should a replacement be available minus anyone to work on it. True sport touring has a tendency to put experienced riders on curvy, rural roads and with that, last-resort knowledge never hurts.
Windex is your friend
Truth.
Thanks
Welcome
Breaking B(e)ad with the RV in the background! Thanks for the tip Walter :)
There is that, yes.
Lol
Thank you so much for your video on how to accomplish this!
Glad to help!
These battery connectors are a b*tch to remove! They don’t actually have a ‘nub’ to compress and release and rely on a small square section at the BOTTOM of the connector. They’re not designed to be removable. If you don’t have the right connector on the battery, it would be easier to leave this in place and then solder the new battery to the wires in situ. The connector does come out with some serious wiggling and tugging but it does some damage to it of you want to re-use. Certainly a fiddly job!
Time and care but yeah ... cutting/installing new wire connecters needn't be a fiasco.
@@TheRidingObsession A good video none the less which gave me confidence to perform the job. Clear and concise, just wanted to warn some others about how easy you made the connector removal look! Thanks
I found that if you remove the air and valve stem apply 1st gear and roll slowly both tire should have the Bead broken.
Fascinating.
Aww man, why do tyre leaves come in pairs if you need three? 😭 great video! Thank you!
Good question.
This was a game changer for me. I have changed my own tires for a few years but always struggled with breaking the bead i various good and bad ways. Yesterday I tried to simply use the spoons as in this video and it worked first try!
Great to hear!
Thank you ! That was always a ; Bee-Auch ! You made it look easy and I will have to give it a try . Tire shop wanted $45.00 to install my tires and that's for each one . I can use the money I saved for ; Beer and Meats for my BBQ . Thanks again ! 😊
Glad it helped!
All I can say is that learning these little tricks is the difference between a lot of blood and anger. I've been using a long 2x4 and a small piece of 2x4 as the 'breaker' that pushes down on the tire. I stick the wheel under my car and use the body of the car as the wedge point to lift up on the long board and push down on the sidewall with my small 2x4 piece. It works, and doesn't scratch up paint or destroy the rubber of the tire if it's going back on. But I also own these same three tire irons in the video and I'm going to try it out on older bikes and dirt bike tires.
Yup. Your method plays well. Our take on it has more to do with either a) preference or b) limited roadside options. On any other day, we'd use a No-Mar or your in-house setup with all of its forgiving leverage. But to know that the above technique works means riders have another tool in their shed, be it a default or last resort. As for bead breaking with a 2x4: czcams.com/video/dTgntzSPVWo/video.html
Thanks a lot !
You're welcome!
I have just struggled for over an hour. with no joy to break the second bead with tyre levers. Found this video, break the bead in seconds. Fantastic, thanks very much for sharing this tip.
Glad it helped.
Very good instructions. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Where can I send this to for you to do it
While we appreciate the comment, this isn't a service we offer.
Nothin’ like chip seal👀
Agreed. Also, it puts any given bike's DTC in the spotlight.
Good review. Great price point. My wife has a pair and loves them. One correction, the exterior is not hard leather. It's faux leather (Toumaster calls it a "water-repellent Italian microfiber upper"), which isn't surprising given the price. Still a good boot.
Thanks for that!
That is amazing pavement quality
I cannot windows help link for update info. I was able to get device mgr from sena. It found device 1 time but was not able to make a server connection. It has not been able to find device again. Changed windows settings, usb ports ,cords to no avail. could you send me the windows helper link.
You need to take this up with the manufacturer with your warranty in hand. Best of luck.
@@TheRidingObsession ok thankz, may just keep firmware that is on it. I purchased item used from eBay.
@@TheRidingObsession Never did get DM to see Sena. Checked version through Bluetooth on phone I have the latest version.
Right. Well, good luck.
Could you post a current link where to purchase?
It would appear the manufacturing/distribution is through a different company now. See this link: amzn.to/47Pfiyz
@@TheRidingObsession Thanks, I saw those. They are just license plate brackets with LED lights. They do not sense deceleration. They are remarkably similar to the VOLO Lights however.
Hmmm. Their product details suggest it activates on deceleration. "6+ different flash patterns alert drivers to normal deceleration and emergency braking with white license plate light" - Let's see if the customer comments suggest otherwise.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm trying to update the firmware on my Sena SC2 that is helmet-specific to my Schuberth C5. I get my device recognized; however, it fails at 8% of the upload. I get the message, "Failed to update firmware. Cannot get status. Try again/[8]" Anyone else with this issue, and how did you resolve?
Hi, Mojo. Robin here. "If it were meeeee" ... Being tech savvy, I'd reboot my computer, quit all applications, disable every background application I can, get the most robust (compatible) cable for the com I have, set my computer's screen saver and sleep policy to "never", completely reset the device to factory defaults and go from there. In short, try not to move. Don't operate anything outside of the Sena software while it attempts to work it's (annoying) "magic". If this fails, then it's time to walk Sena's support phone maze by "pressing # fifteen times before spinning counterclockwise on a specific brand of bar stool". If the product has failed you, that's on them but first, make sure the entire path of process is completely clear.
Done did all that, @@TheRidingObsession
Then it's time to call the manufacturer.
Great information can't wait to use it. Are you using a basic Google map to plan a trip and when you turn off navigation guide if you go off the planned route does it lead you back to the nearest point on your planned route or does it make you constantly take a U-turn and go back to the part of the route you turned off? Thanks.
We using RideWithGPS.com to plan our routes. The video makes mention about preferring to only show the GPX file on the unit (no voice nav). If you use voice nav and deviate from the route, THIS unit (can't speak to others) will stop following the custom route and instead re-route "directly" to the destination.
@@TheRidingObsession OK, with voice, but if as you state; Turn off route navigation, then should it reroute to the custom loaded route? Pretty useless device if it can't follow a custom route regardless. I mean, sometimes after studying my route and knowing the area I choose to go off route to discover a different road back to my original route. Sometimes ahead and sometimes to reride part of the route.
When you ask "turn off route navigation, then should it reroute to the custom loaded route?" ... you've answered your own question. Bottom line, no. With route navigation OFF but keeping the GPX displayed on the unit, riders are able to see the line whether they deviate from it or not. If you should deviate, zoom out and eventually you'll see the route that is your loaded GPX. That way, you can meander to your heart's content and find your way back after. But agreed ... GPS units are dated at best. Offline phone routing (such as RWGPS.com) is far better and with the offline ability, easier to configure. The reality is this: 1) Have and understand paper maps on your bike. 2) Some GPS units are good for basic scouting + finding a gas station that likely no longer exists (50/50 shot). 3) Embrace as a luxury, but do not rely completely on, a quality phone app that provides digital navigation. We suggest RWGPS.com all day. Without fail. Takes a little love to get the GUI under your belt but once you do, it's gravy.
🔥...took me less than 10 min, AWESOME. Honda vtx1800 rear tire......THANK YOU 🎯👊
Glad it helped!
Thaank you so much! Gonna try this tomorrow!
Go slow. Take your time. Be careful. Good luck!
Excellent video. Like the way you kept it short & sweet. I would have juiced it up with soapy water and lengthen the 3 spoons. Thank you for taking your time to help others.
Great idea!
Dude best way ever thank you!
Glad it helped!
It works!!! I have to admit, the first time I tried this method, I was beyond frustrated. Then I came back to it a few months later with a better temperament, and it was so easy! Thanks so much!
Glad it helped!
Good stuff if you're in a bind, but I wouldn't use this method if I didn't have to as marring the inside of the rim has the potential to damage the area where the bead seats.
Agreed. This video (and its parent article) is meant for roadside remedy use. As sport touring enthusiasts, we often find ourselves in the middle of nowhere or a small town if we're lucky. When you're telling locals "any motorcycle with [dimensions] will do" ... any reasonably painless method for mounting it by hand will also do.
Omg it works!!!!! This is going to save me so much time trying to break the bead when I change tyres and just saved me buying a bead breaker tool.
Good to know!
What song is this?
"Dangerous (feat. Joywave)" by Big Data czcams.com/video/nKsYCu3QkBA/video.html
fixed my problem. amazing how hard this was to find out i had to turn on the device to update the firmware. also couldn't get it to work on windows 11. worked on my mac running Ventura
Well, glad it at least worked out (even if "eventually")
@@TheRidingObsession yes. it's surprising how bad Sena software and tech support is. i know these radios are old, but even though I'm tech savvy it took finding your video to fix the problem. thanks again!
Glad it worked out!
I have the Club Version of Ride with GPS, and have created 17 scenic loops in my area. My issue is in regards to pre-testing the rides with the voice cues activated, to make sure all is correct. Unless I misunderstand, there is no way to do this without being at the actual site and navigating the actual route. Do you have thoughts on this?
RWGPS gathers information from a variety of external sources. What information is made available to us as riders and them as a map building resource changes with time. Sometimes those changes are for the better and sometimes not. So, despite the fact that their platform is the most stable we've seen, live traffic updates, road closures and freak weather don't appear to be on the menu as of yet. With that, the age old "scouting run" is still a mandatory go to for proof of concept.
WOW, last tire i took off with a dremel hahaha, cut the thing in half! now i don't have to struggle with the thanks of a few tire spoons and this video
Glad to hear!
"It did it ... I see it!" 😊 That must be one of the most satisfying moments for a DIY'er. I will try this myself one of these days.
It most definitely was. Good luck in your efforts!
I am amazed but this actually worked and it was so quick and easy! Would've never thought of this. Thanks so much for posting this.
Glad it helped!
Do I need to install a relay for that type of headlight? Someone told me to install one to avoid ruining my battery. Thanks in advance! Great video tutorial!
Not likely, since the goal is to plug it directly into the already existing headlight power source. You're replacing the power's destination, not the circuitry by which it receives that power. However, all bikes have their differences, so investigate as needed. Consult the forums. Peruse the factory manual. Etc.
I can proudly say this did not work for me. Shinko 805 on a DR650 rim. About ready to light the entire bike on fire.
Well, that's a bummer. Of course, now onto the "did you try turning it off and back on again" customer anti-support ... 1) You deflated the tire. 2) You pulled the valve stem. 3) The tire iron trick didn't play in your favor. Hmmm. This comment is a job for the horses mouth. Paging Brian Wringer!
@@TheRidingObsession it was very cold out and this was the second tire I’ve ever tried to change, so it’s not the fault of the OP. I went out and bought the MP Bead Breaker irons, and those should help if/when the time comes!
There is zero (0) shame in that game. To have the right tool for conditions is key. This tutorial noise was inspired by a rural pavement and single-track dual sport aficionado who's DNA was used to conjure the character of MacGyver. Bottom line and at the very least, you've seen that if you get stuck, somewhere in the bleeding knuckles of broken-spoke ingenuity lies a solution ... even if that solution is asking the tow truck driver for bandaids to cover the bleeding knuckles of a broken-spoke engineer. Everyone at TRO certainly has their scars LOL. Best of luck next time! Even better ... here's hoping there ain't one 8-)
@@TheRidingObsession you rang? My guess, as with most things involving tires, would be to just "take smaller bites". Especially with cold tires. Put the tire irons close together, try to get the middle one to move just an itty bitty bit, then move just a little to one side, and repeat. Also, try to get something slippery in there. Tire mounting lube is best, or a thin soap solution. If you use Windex or similar, make sure it's all cleaned off the wheel.
I know this is 2yrs old, but you just helped this moto noob change his first tire without dropping an extra $70 on a bead breaker! It's much appreciated, thanks for spreading the knowledge
Good to hear. Thanks for taking part!
