Where a wooli hat at night works a treat
Lovely video just getting back into camping and this has helped me massively ❤
Fantastic!
23:53 I think your first guess was right. Those dry stone walls are sheep pens, sometimes called sheepfolds on old maps.
I walked in the heat today, suitably hydrated and wearing an Arab headress that my late father had bought in Jerusalem in 1943. I knew I would get comments when I had a single malt in my local on returning. I remember something you said, the gist being that you get old enough to be secure in yourself. Some people sadly never do. We walk in strange terrain. There are far worse things lass. My best regards. Thank you for your videos.
I will be meeting an old walking friend next week. She is visiting London on what I suspect is a farewell tour as cancer carries her away. She is laughing in the face of death which is harder than any of us might imagine. Old friends die hard. I will buy some Scotch and drink by a river when she is gone, hope to see a kingfisher and watch the world turn. Those of us who are left should walk and catch the ancient sunlight. That's not one of my dreadful poems Lilu, that's a truth. With best wishes. I apologise if I have been inappropriate. Death knocks on all doors, it is why life is so precious. Nick.
Lilu, I off course admire your work. I would remind you that I am a man and barely sentient. I personally think I have put the process of evolution back by millennia. It is a joy to follow your work. I am hoping to discover the wheel by next Thursaday. Nick xx.
I had hoped to walk to Rotherhithe where there is a small museum devoted to Bazalgette pere but it is too damned hot and the finger I had inadvertently sliced open and still dripping blood would lead me to being pursued by feral dogs. So a poem. I like you Miss's Lilu You're a caution You're a treat The Mufti of Jerusalem Would worship at your feet The Czar of all the Russias Would make you tea and toast But none the less It's just a guess I like you more than most. That's your poem. Why not. With thanks. I have nowt else to offer. Travel well. I have often found dreadful poetry speeds the pace. It might save your life one day. Xx
Lilu, thank you for your stories. If you are uncertain about wild camping, don't do it. You have nothing to prove., Don't feel constrained to stand on uncertain ground. I am definitely not being patriarchal, as you know I inadvertently stabbed myself some few hours ago. It was like Ahab and Moby Dick round here. Call me Ishmael. The latter especially knew a bit about walking in whales. Only a fool would cut out his counters with an exacto knife and miss. Fortunately I did not bleed over anything important except my self esteem. With best wishes, Nick
The great problem with Hardraw Warerfall or force is that for decades afterwards Kevin Costner, Prince of Thieves, would lurk behind scrub or Victorian bandstand and demand money. His career then was somewhat in abeyance, yet now renewed. It is a lovely waterfall, don't get me wrong. By chance, and this is absolutely true I almost froze to death nearby except by setting fire to the waiting room of a local station. A donkey and I, he being adjacent, watched the station inadvertently burn. "You know donkey, somebody is going to take the rap for this". True story Lilu. The donkey pleaded King's evidence against me. Floppy eared grass. I would have got away with it apart from those meddling lilus. With best wishes. Nick.
Miss Lilu I have a secret vice, not often advertised. I have always been a fan of boardgames. There madam I am unfortunately often found desolee. Some few years ago I played my old walking friend Charles at the overly unregarded Backpacks and Blisters. After the first round I was 35 points up, by the last we had drawn. Some judicious use of chocolate bars on his part had found me unduly wanting outside Keswick. I enjoy your posts. I can assure you madam that Keswick will not find me so indolent again. I am trying to make you laugh, why not. I am a jester, not a fool. As always. Try and pick up the boardgame, in the Lake District where it is set. I have walked off those hills 35 points behind and never caught up. Nick.
Sometimes I have that voice in my head saying don't do it, I ignore it and have a really great hike. Other days I just can't get into it and all the little things that usually go smoothly or I don't let bother me, like the parking, just really make my mind up to go home. And I feel shit because the weather was fine and it was a day off work and I gave up. It happens to all of us I think. Loving the video's. Hope you're well.
Yes thats exactly it Sone we win some we lose...its frustrating as we don't get many good weather days but I just wanted to go hone, and that's ok too Very busy working at the mo but wild camps planned for next week!!!
I missed one😁 You have been too quiet with your videos lately Hope you are okay. You must be the coolest driving instructor ever😂👍🫡👋 I camped last Friday and again Friday coming camping Snowdon at the lake. I've done a couple of shorts from a few days ago. One day say these are really 💩😂 I like that, I have a weird sense of humour. I follow another big youtuber like yourself and tell her I'd love to say well that was 💩 😂 Many people would be after me. I prefer doing shorts than vids quick and easy and I don't have to talk. I'm looking forward to your next one🫡👋
One tip for you keep your gas in with you too keep it warmer it performs better warmer
What a stunning pool.
Lilu I hesitate to tell you because I would not wish to be overly forward but you are a walker. I did my first big walk yesterday after the eyes were repaired as it were. These things knock your confidence however ridiculous that might sound. It was a delight. I sat on a fallen branch and watched busy insects scurry by which may seem weird but I would not have been able to see them a week ago. It is life lilu and it is precious. We are both fortunate observers and participants. At the end of the day there are none so blind as those who will not see. I enjoy your videos very much. Those who never tried to walk are unlikely ever to run. Travel well woman.
Really enjoy your program interesting to see you coping with all your new gear etc,and it must do you good to be able to get away for a few stress free days enjoy.
I walked what I call the big park today. A river runs through it and it has a constructed meander which I still call the new flood defence works. At the end of the park you can skirt through a retail park and then an alleyway which only locals know and walk a long hill beside a cascading tributary though one sadly not possessed of waterfalls. One could not swim there. Even in the most urban of London there is truth. Beauty is truth, truth beauty as someone far wiser than I once said. Annoyingly Keats probably came up with that over lunch. I have waited a lifetime for similar insight. I'm still waiting. With best wishes.
Loving these videos! I've lived in the shadow of these mountains for most of my life and have only recently discovered a love for exploring them!
Glad you like them!
As you may know lilu I am an old Shelter worker, accustomed to negotiation. Of course people with disputatios matrimonial disputes feel happy to draw me in to their resolution. Lilu I did housing, I housed thousands of people, benefits, and I am afraid dismissing Social Services who in twenty seven years never helped one of my own. You come off, I was reading an old Inspector Montalbano novel, and your eyes are fine. You come off a mountain and some squabbling world awaits. I hope I would neversquabble with my fellows but sometimes you want to walk a mountain alone. I mean no disrespect to any of my kin.We clamber on the shoulders of giants, we would be fools not to, I have always respected those who clamber alone or camp in forests unforeseen.
Ms Lilu my apologies for perhaps over egging Liam Neeson in the original Taken. I felt pity when my neighbour, rendered by despair, was head butting my wall. It's a pity I am going to have to get that wall repainted. It's an old joke, we make them in face of sadness that we are unsure whether we can assist in. I am an old Shelter worker, we would have sold our soul to house somebody. It was at best a dubious currency. or exchange. Madam, my regards. I wish you well. I have no doubt that you will walk to places I have never seen or dreamt of.
Ms Lilu, I have recently redefined what Cherry-Garrard called The worst journey in the world. It is in fact when your neighbours involve you in their matrimonial dispute. No matter how far you hike or cunningly stealth camp it will look for you, it willf ind you, and it will kill you. Clearly, though I am an old Shelter worker ,I follow the Liam Neeson school of marriage counselling. They were skint, I gave them some money and told them to have an Indian meal, no more than one bottle of wine, and for Christ's sake ring me in the morning when office hours are open. I apologise for the language being at heart a gentleman, but sod this for a bunch of soldiers. As always with respect. I have always tried to love my fellow human beings. Sometimes madam it is not always easy.
Ms Lilu, I had the final follow up appointment that approved my vision. Knowing, given the lack of urgency that insisted on this required imprimatur, I had taken a book to re-read. I shall recommend Apsley Cherry-Garrard's work, The Worst Journey in the World. It treats of Antarctic exploration. Whilst I will admit it is slightly more challenging than my own five year old disappearance with Jessica Keegan to explore Lesnes Abbey Woods to the consternation of both sets of parents it's very good. I still don't know whether a five year old who walks through bluebell woods with a friend, in the spring, to an aunt's house is an explorer or a fool. The jury, after all, is still out on Scott of the Antarctica.
Very interesting and appreciated thank you Lilu - Just checking also, when can we 'Tie the Knot' as such? with many thanks x Dominic
Haha tying knots mean being tethered, I'm a free spirit and need to have no ties. I'm afraid 😊 Thank you for visiting
Great adventure ❤
Thanks 😀
Hiya 😁 I've just come across your channel as I'm ready for my first car camping trip and I think I've watched the entire UK catalogue of campers, except yours. You're incredibly watchable and hope you continue doing car camps in future. Lovely to meet you 😍
Thank you so much ! Yes I miss car camping, it's a busy year and I'm not getting much opportunity yet but hopefully towards Autumn I will be car camping more.. I love it 😀
@AdventuresWithLilu Quite right, I think once the humidity of this summer disperses I'll be off. Bit warm at the moment 🥵. I just know I'm gonna get the car camper bug and already chuffed with my set up. It helps being a tent enthusiast as I already had everything I need. Who knows, if you're ever north of Sheffield, our paths might cross 😉
It may not be right but as long as it’s right for you that’s all that matters. Love watching your videos the only thing I can comment on is the tarp if I were you I would get at least a 2m x2m But if you can afford to get a 3m x3 m that is what I would get gives you loads of options even to the point of making shelters. More than happy to answer any questions I can I’m no expert myself but if I don’t know an answer I usually know where to find it lol
We live 1/2 mile from our spiritual sherwood forest.camped many times there and chestnut and cob nuts loads
Amazing Drone footage nicely done
Thank you kindly
You worry too much it’s you and all the things you do that we all come to watch. The time to worry is when folks are moaning…….no moaning. No need to worry. Just carry on being you that’s the best sort of thing you can do
Catching up on your back catalogue as I said I would am loving it all can just imagine how it’s going to befor me returning to camping now I’m disabled but I intend to make a go of it even if a make a bloody fool of myself
Go for it! 😊
I always love exploring around here as my grandad worked in the quarry
I wanted to write to thank you for your site which has proved a great comfort as I feared blindness. All now is happily resolved but I squinted at your videos like a wizard or a witch. I tried to write you a story, I have no talent for videos, as some small recompense. I am told I have a talent for words, I am not so sure but without words there is only silence. Walk well and long. Jesus, I think,I am channelling Mr Spock there. My late mother was the Star Trek fan. I loved her very much but she went to conventions wearing Star Trek uniform. You have no idea how splendid and embarrassing that was. With best wishes.
Ahhh thank you, I do read all your comments, parents just arrived so I'm running round making sure they are keeping busy so they don't throw half my belongelibfs away while I'm teaching lol my mum has a habit of clearing out my stuff! No tune to comment these days! At least the sun is shining ✨️
I have never done this before but I am going to try and tell you an old story. So if you are sitting comfortably I will begin. It started on a Sunday, that at least was when the rain started so we might as well begin there. My late father was in charge of flood defence in Lewisham, something which I suspect came as much of a surprise to him as it did to the rest of the family. As far as any failing flood defence goes I think he did the best that any man could. The rivers, one of which flowed past our own house, burst their banks. Dampness descended and continued to do so. Nobody yet suspected that by Tuesday the dedicated milkman would come round by rowing boat. I have pictures of it. There were basement flats by the railway station flooded from floor to ceiling. I did not know him then but now old Ken had scuba dived through his downstairs neighbours kitchen. We had at the end of a long day moved everything upstairs except for the carpet underlay. About three in the morning I heard singing and went downstairs. It was the only time I ever saw my father drunk. He was splashing through our lounge in his underwear with a bottle of whisky in his hand. I left him to it, we never talked of it thereafter. That was my story lilu or perhaps more exactly my father's. At the end of the day we have little to offer but walks and stories. I cannot offer you walks compared to yours but I hope stories will suffice. They are walks in all but name. With best wishes. I am a historian by education. I tell stories.
Pleased you are still going on your adventures. I still not got the guts to do it 😢. Love watching them and think you are so brave 😊
You can do it!
That's a woman on top of a mountain. Clearly a woman to look up to on the assumption you don't really have any choice. It's topology.
Grr it's not glider😤
I cant help how a computer says it 😕
@@AdventuresWithLilu only joking Lilu love all your videos 🤓
I hope this is not overly forward but I walked in my local park, just across the road, early this morning. Only a few laps, two and a half miles, as the sun came up. I had forgotten just how much these past few months of blurred vision had worn me down. It had been a gradual disintegration of sight, now repaired. I could see the birds and squirrels again who I greeted in French because my joy had left me silly. My neighbour who I had shared a balcony drink with is working a late shift. She also was going out with a mug of tea and a book to sit in the park. Seriously if your vision goes the world contracts and crowds in on you. Fortunately I can view the world anew. It is rather beautiful to look at. Something you have reminded me of. I like walking early, even in London there is hardly anybody about. Perhaps a few men running in shorts. I hope, humorously, that I have long concluded that I do not approve of that kind of thing. A man's knees should only be known to the inside of his trousers and to God. I have dined out on that bon mot for years. I really must get some new material or trousers. As long as we can see we can walk. Who knows what wonders we might yet envisage. Your vlog has illuminated my momentary darkness. I have no reason to suspect that your future adventures will disappoint. As long as they don't disappoint you. With best wishes. You can climb a mountain. I have seen you do it.
Share your videos. They are worthwhile. With best wishes.
So nice of you
Your site is not just a hiking venue, it's a journey. I would never disparage them, I have no right. But some people never get out their front door. A friend's son fell off a Munro. His university kindly awarded him an honorary medical degree. We never talk of it, I cannot imagine my friend's pain. His son died looking at the skies. If one could offer a sufficient eulogy one would have to offer it to the best of humanity. Only god's condemn, I have never wished for such pretension or hubris. Thank you for what you do. I walk with interesting women. My best wishes. Look after yourself.
Thank you
