WOODLAND WILD CAMP || POMOLY HOT TENT AND STOVE

- In todays video, I took off to a lovely little secluded camp spot in the heart of Staffordshire. My aim was to test out the Pomoly Dome x4 2.0 Hot tent and Baker Stove with a water tank as well as a few other bits and pieces. It's my first attempt at hot tent camping, and it didn't come without its fails and a steep learning curve.
I have camped all my life in various tents of shapes and sizes, but never one that included a fireproof ground sheet and wood burner stove!
Today was the day! Luckily, I was able to park fairly close to my chosen pitch, and although the ground was pretty soggy from recent downpours, it remained dry for me while i pitched up.
I hope you enjoy testing out this new tent with me, and at the end, I give my thoughts and a few points to consider before you go on your own hot tent camping adventures.
Disclaimer: Do as I say not as I do and make safety your priority...I was very naïve in my preparation, which led me to burn my fingers LITERALLY!
In my opinion, it's an awesome tent, stove, and concept, and I am looking forward to many a cosy, warm winters night camping.

This Pomoly Dome x4 tent (without inner tent and ground sheet ) is currently up for sale - UK only. Anyone interested, drop me a comment or email. :)
Yeah on windy put a couple of pegs in to stop tents running off. Nice tea set, but a bit of a doll's house tea set. Let herbal tea steap, 5 minutes or more. I haven't had my hot tent out yet. I will though 😊
Good idea lol
Love this tent been using pomoly stoves for years also envious of UK camping and cooking inside….unfortunately where I camp I have BEARS so no inside cooking
It does look homely, thanks for sharing with us 💜👍🍻
Thank you! Cheers!
Been looking forward to this loving your videos
Yay! Thank you! Hope you enjoy this one
I was sat down the local Friday having a few pints with a mate Craig from east Anglian bushcraft telling him about you. If you haven't seen his channel I definitely recommend it I think he would be right up your street.
@@Ggriffiths81Having lived 5 years in Norfolk and have family there, yes, I have heard of him and see a few vids 😀 great stuff! Need some bushcraft lessons 😅
Well if you ever head back down this way to visit family and fancy a woodland social let me no I could always ask Craig if he wanted to join us as well 👍
@garethgriffiths9655 cheers yeah...Next spring maybe!! 👍🏻
My tent has 3 poles and it's still a ball-ache to set up, well done getting yours up on your own. It looks like a great base camp for extending the camping seasons.😊
It really is! I'm really pleased with this set up, and yeah, it wasn't too hard to pitch, just that cheeky gust of wind! Thinking of heading to Snowdonia in 2 weeks...cant wait! Thanks for watching!
Great video! I really like your honesty and the fact that you will try new things, make the odd small error, and learn from it. If you ever get another hot tent stove, burn it in at home in the garden first. That will remove any oils and chemicals from the manufacturing process. Looking forward to the next adventure already 😀
Ah I didn't know this...there was no instructions at all
Love how you just roll with it and learn as you go. Very relatable nice content
Glad you enjoy it!
@@AdventuresWithLilu nice to see more women going out of their comfort zone and trying new things. We need to be stronger and get out there. Will look forward to your channel
I enjoy your videos. 👍👍
Glad you like them!
That looks mega cozy! Fair play Lilu it looks seriously good! Great video as always x
It's all the herbal tea has done your throat in. 😂 great show again. 👏
You think so? Iv been drinking it at hone since with no bother.. hmm
Nice vid, I also hot tent and suggest you get a carbon monoxide detector especially if you keep the fire going overnight. Better to be safe. I love my Pomoly stove
Yep have now invested in one!!
I would recommend the regular stove, the oven heats from the top down only, kind of like a broiler would.
I use freezer blocks to keep food cool, yes in a cooler bag I made myself.
Yes nice idea!! 👏🏻
Great adventure glad you enjoyed and every thing went to plan .
Yes! Thank you!
You looked like .any Poppins with the tent lol 😂
Another great video. Look forward to watching you every Sunday teatime. 😊
Yay! Thank you!
Hi Lilu,
Glad to see the charcoal turned out good. Instinct tells me a fire in the middle of the entrance not a good idea, but guess it’s the obvious choice. Look forward to seeing you using it in much colder weather.
Cheers
Graham
Yeh there is no choice as that's where the stove jack is. But yes I was surprised it wasn't further back...there's plenty of room tho...thanks for watching
Fab tent and stove, I'd love this 😀
Hi Lilu .Just a little pointer regarding the stove.. If you turn the tray in the oven up the other way you will find that the heat will circulate better under the food while cooking. ATB
Ohhh good idea thank you!!
Fab inspiring video again. I love the new tent.
Thanks so much!
Another super video. I love that you show us something new in every video.
More to come!
Great content , Thank you ! Very helpful in making my purchase decision. And Tiger Lilly is adorable 🙂
About time, what you been doing 😁 like the new tent, great video looking fab 😁👍
Hahaha iv had this tent a few weeks amd bee. Dying to try it...thanks for watching!
Very beautiful, the tent is good also.
Thank you very much!
Just got same tent and a t brick 2.0 stove I carnt wait to use them . That stove looks amazing
I'm hoping to get out again soon with mine ...have fun!!
@@AdventuresWithLilu just subbed nice videos.
@@christophershiels786 thank u 💓
@@AdventuresWithLilu have you ever tried a steathcamp realy good for views
@christophershiels786 I did one at sherwood forest but quite new to wild camping and prefer to be up the mountains ⛰️
Aww little Tigerlilly is so cute , bless her, sending big snuggles to little girl, new sub here , sending good vibes from Wales
Always remember, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. No-one but no-one can be perfect from the off so don't beat yourself up unnecessarily. Life is as they say a learning curve. Thoroughly enjoyed this video and as always looking forward to your next adventure. Cheers. Ken
Thank u
@@AdventuresWithLiluYou're very welcome.😀
love your videos, Lilu - but Tiger Lily definitely upstaged you in this one 🤣
I know!! She's a cutie!
Brilliant Lilu keep up with your amazing videos.
Thank u!
Great vid be awesome when it snows 👍👍👌
I absolutely love my x4, mine suffers from condensation too but I burn my stove a bit in the morning to dry it off. Most single skin tents do suffer from this. Hot tent camping is a game changer lol. Only found your channel after you replied to my comment on fb. Look forward to watching more of your content 👍🏻
Thanks so much!!
Loving the videos. Well worth the sub. I’m into extreme camping. Making bivouacs in outrageous conditions etc. I’m a little envious of that smart tent though haha. Stay free.
Thank you !!
Ace video Lilu...what a civilised way to wild camp!
Liking your red guitar too :)
Must be a way to take it with you on an adventure...something I've often dwelled on with mine.
Haha thank you!! Yes maybe one day
Great video. It's good that you approached things without too much research/experience as we all learnt as you learned. (Beautiful cat, BTW.)
Thank you kindly 🙏🏻
An excellent entertaining and funny gear review Lilu. Gorgeous kitty as well x
Thanks!! Featured Ki'tenn just for you...couldn't get wispa in shot tho lol 😆
@wheretonowlilu Ahh nice Thanks x
♥ this set up, Lilu !
You're being sent some great gear 👍
Charcoal is fine - it's baked wood - negligible moisture - it creates more heat, which can be a good and a bad thing.
I'm sure there won't be a problem with CO in a sealed up tent, so it will be interesting to see what readings you get - perhaps experiment with the tent at home - light fire, seal it up, retreat to house and check it every so often. CO is lighter than air so place detector up high.
Love how YT animals think their owners are speaking to them, hence the video bombing.
Great tips thank u... yeh now have bought gloves and another Carbon monoxide alarm for the tent . And yes little cat loves to get involved lol 😆
That hot tent looked very cosy. Great idea with the water boiler too! Looked a nice trip 🙂 Thanks for the video and I hope you enjoyed Caulke Abbey afterwards 👍
It was too busy for me at Calke but I had a wander at least. Not a patch on fountains abbey tho
@@AdventuresWithLilu never been to fountains to be fair I'll have to check it out, not far 👍
@NumptyButtkick check it out on my youtube vid lol
Lovely :)
Blimey your a better person than me I've no patience 😊
It was easy!!
I really love that stove. You’ll have many a great winter camp in that set up 😊
I think so too!
Interesting 😮
Another great video 👍that stove looks good though see how you get on next trip 😊your right about getting away after a week at work it's good for the soul 😊
Thanks 👍
wow great vid you are something special
Awe thanks
Great video well done.
Thank you very much!
My Goodness well done for your perseverance...... Looked like a good place to be once you got there 🙂
Yes, thank you
There are - other meal choices . ( Actual alcohol adult refreshment also not included )
I was thinking about getting a hot tent and stove. After seeing your vid I'm ordering on now. Decided on the Pomoly locomotive 20.
Oh fab!!! It really us a fantastic piece of kit, so well made!! Enjoy!
Can't wait to start using it 😃
great tent. Will prolong the camping season loads
Thanks!!
Cracking Vid 😊❤
Thanks 😁
Just when I think your videos can't get any better you move up another level !! The way you put the tent up "sight unseen" was brilliant and the stove was efficient . My only comment re the stove was the lack of an inverted cone on the top of the chimney to keep heavy rain out when the fire has gone out ! That is just a thought you may pass on to the manufacturer . Good idea to get at least one oven mitt and a CO monitor . Looking forward to your next video Lilu . Ignore the comments re nose ring etc - I took early retirement it the age of 62 - I am now 74 and haven't had my hair cut since my son and daughter - in law got married 11 years ago 🤣. I get the occasional comment , in the pub, about having hair over my shoulders - my response - If you've got it flaunt it !!
Aw thanks for the kind words ☺️
What a great chilled watch its still great to see you doing things blindly and making it work, i think you're nose and throat problem may have been due to not lighting a small fire in the stove outside the tent first, it stops fumes from first burn, one tip you might consider is when lighting the fire and more so when cooking sit on your chair it is much easier and safer, thanks for another great watch
Hmm I would have thought the chimney got rid of fumes? Hmm not sure what was up with my breathing but defo need to open the vents properly next tine!! Lol thanks for watching....Will take the tent to Snowdonia at the end of the month and try again lol
Very geodesic and spacious. I wonder why the stove jack is positioned right over the door? I suppose there are other exits from the tent without squeezing past the stove but not so easy to reach them through the inner tent in the event of fire. I must remember, I do not need this tent...I do not need this tent ..I do not need this tent ..😄
Yes that's my only gripe...its quite far forward too. But...there are different stoves...and it is a tent work of art I love it!
Wouldn’t need the inner in winter give more space
Wow Lisa, what a cracking bit of kit. It looks like it's ripstop too. It reminds me of the expedition style tents on everest base camp with the design. And that fire/stove, what else do you need. Great effort pitching it on your own in the wind. That's the perfect winter set up ❄️❄️👌
Yes its Ripstop 40D I believe...looking forward to testing ut in colder temps 😄
Thanks
Oh wow thank u that's so kind xx
@@AdventuresWithLilu My pleasure x
Great camp. Interesting stove with the water boiler thingy. Yes, defo take a carbon monoxide detector with you and id probably recommend leaving the the door open too, particularly at the top, rather than just relying on the tent vents. Cheers!
Thanks for the tips! Good idea leaving the door open a bit
Cool video, some cracking gear there lilu ,stunning tent and stove, some suggestions if I may:
The reasons for the sore throat etc, possibly could be the coal burning, yes most goes up the pipe/flue, but some coal particles will come out the vent on the stove itself, and if the smoke is swirling outside, the smoke out the pipe goes in all directions, and the other is may the herbs in the herbal tea didn't agree with you, some people can find some herbs a slight irritant, perhaps look at the ingredients list..
Keeping the oven section clean ,use a foil tray or baking tray, makes it easier to clean..
Using a picnic planet in the sleeping section, according to my daughter who tent camps, makes all the difference..
A door mat of sorts in the entrance way, ones you can just stick in washing machine to clean, but okay to get wet/muddy, help keep your inside space clean..
Sorry if you've thought of ghese already, just being helpful hopefully, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Thanks for the tips!
Ive just finished watching this in two parts & it looked like a proper cosy camp...👍 I've liked the idea of having a Hot-Tent for a while now & have had an Ultralight T-pee Hot-Tent (about 2kg) in a shopping basket for about a year now😄, but I actually bought it last night😯, couldn't resist it any longer, although the stove that I hope to get for it will have to wait until next payday, but am excited all the same about the thought camping out in the cold weather with a roaring fire going🔥, lovely...! Your cat looks like a real softie...!🤣💕 Take care & will look forward to watching Ur next adventure...!🙂
Oh thats fab!!! Let me know how it goes!! I loved it...hoping to try it again in a couple of weeks! Eek...have gauntlets and co2 alarm this time haha
❤
Iv been looking at these tents, thanks for your honest review
I'm actually going to review the x4 Pro and the x6 in the next few weeks....il try and do a side by side comparison 😅
Brilliant! I can’t decide. I camp alone through winter but summer my wife and daughter would come. I just need to know it’s waterproof doing most of my camps in Derbyshire or wales 🤣. Thanks for your reply
@user-wt8wc9oh7u ok il try and go this weekend and film them if I can. I havent yet even pitched them so not sure on the size difference. Hoping I can pitch the x6 alone!! Lol
Let’s hope it’s not as windy as when putting the 4 up 😂. Peg it down in a couple of places. I will await your video. Thanks again Jim
@@jimbofatman il do my best to get a video to you ASAP! Lol or get blown away lol
That tent looks great, not sure about about the flaming hot box though. I'd get no sleep, thinking I was gonna wake up dead. 🤪
Haha I let it die down first 🙃
you're getting all the flash gear now!
I was very lucky to get given this set up
👍👍👍🇬🇧
😄
Perfect for a winter base camp, I am impressed with size it's ideal for a couple of people to stay warm in the winter. As for stress, I totally agree being outdoor really helps a lot, I am off for 5 days at the end of the month. I agree with another comment about Bushman & Blue, him and his stunning dog are very inspirational. But you should check out Nick Goldsmith's book 'Rewild your mind', this a great book for using the outdoor for mental well being.
Thank you yes I was bushman sometimes
Love the tent but not budget friendly in the US. Neither is the stove. In this time who has 1200k to throw away on these items. I will make do with what I have. Loved your honest review and maybe one day when this World gets real I will purchase. tiger Lily is so cute. Would love to see her out with you.
Yes I know what u mean the tents are crazy expensive and I'm very lucky to be given this one to test. They are lovely well made tents tho. Thanks for watching 😊
Hi. How long did it took for your pomoly tent to arrive? Mines showing no movement on the shipping status. :(😊
Which one did you go for? It took about a week or so I think... altho I'm now waiting for the x6 which is taking time...
Never used a hot tent, looks a decent alternative to a bothy full of smelly, snoring, farting hillwalkers, and a lot more portable. Having woken many times and had to scrape ice off the inside of the tent, I wonder if the firebox would keep the whole thing above zero and stop that annoyance. Another interesting video, well done!
🤣🤣🤣 thsnks for the comment
Awesome meadow you have here is it priv? Have same tent but different stove. Could I come and camp there? Together probably? ;) Take care Lilu :D
Its a campsite near Uttoxeter in Staffs. Farm on a hill I think its called. Thanks for watching
Your right a carbon monoxide alarm is a must, just better to be safe.
Bought one now!!!
Does it hurt when they staple your nose like that? How do they make you leave it in?
It doesn't hurt. I pierced them myself
Are there any more questions?
@#adventureswithlilu lovely looking tent... and you modelled those new trousers perfectly... I thought they were fjallraven until you said otherwise .. in all my years I have never been hot tent stove camping!!!.. looks like fun ... my internal dialogue is telling me I do not need another tent.. but screw him, I run things.. watched this wrapped up in my sleeping bag, in my tent and it's cold out ... take care of yourself and shine on xxx
Oh! Hope it wasn't too cold! Thanks for the comment!
@@AdventuresWithLilu no it's wasn't too cold.. had the rab ascent 900.. So I was toastie warm.. I could see my breath.. unfortunately there was not a breath of wind so had a little condensation, Evan though i had all the vents open.. take care of yourself and shine on xxx
@user-dx8tf4wc8p which tent did u use?
@@AdventuresWithLilu fjallraven abisco light 1...though it was not the tents fault... any of my tents would have had condensation with that particular type of weather... infact many of them would have been worse, as the fjallraven is designed to combat condensation as much as possible... warm inside the tent,, cold outside ,,, with no wind for ventilation is gunna dampen any tent... Xxx
