When WILD CAMPING goes VERY wrong! || PEAK DISTRICT

- Hello Adventurers!
Hope you have had a good half term break and made the most of the sunny weather...yes I am being sarcastic! Where is the sunshine? It is June for goodness sakes!
Anyway, while we wait for summer to arrive here in the UK, why not watch this little video I have filmed at the enchanting woods of Padley Gorge.
Originally I was excited to plan a hike/wild camp up over the northern side of the Dark Peak, starting at Snake Pass carpark and hiking over to The Tower of Alport Castles and beyond, in search of a secret little waterfall. I planned on taking my Nature Hike tent and test out my new back pack ahead of a bigger trip to North Wales.
Alas, my plan went a bit (a lot) wonky on this day... With the sunshine finally making its glorious appearance on the Sunday of half term week...the crowds had descended on the Peak District. Driving up through Chesterfield was a slog with queues of traffic causing long delays to get to my destination. Finally, once i arrived, every single parking space or layby suitable for an over nighter was already taken.
Parking is limited around the Dark Peak at the best of times but today, it was rammed!
So I was forced to turn back and head somewhere else, and with no phone signal to plan, I decided to go to Padley Gorge as I knew parking on the roadside was permitted.
The bad luck didn't stop there, the good news is I found a parking space....but that was where my luck ended..
From ants nests and scary cows to falling over, twisting my ankle, noisy traffic and crowds of people this camp was looking doomed....
It does make for a rather entertaining little video though...at my expense once again!
Hope you enjoy watching, don't forget to Like, Comment, Share and Subscribe if you want to help my little channel grow (we are nearly at 5000 subs!) you know I always appreciate your support :)
I have just had some very exciting news about another video I need to plan as well as more successful camps coming up hopefully...
See you on the next one,
L xx

One of the best things about going out on your own is that you can do whatever you want. You may start with a plan but you can always change it. Always follow your feelings.
Hope you enjoyed the bath and spent some quality time with your cats.
Thank u for ur kind words 💓
Sometimes I have that voice in my head saying don't do it, I ignore it and have a really great hike. Other days I just can't get into it and all the little things that usually go smoothly or I don't let bother me, like the parking, just really make my mind up to go home. And I feel shit because the weather was fine and it was a day off work and I gave up. It happens to all of us I think.
Loving the video's. Hope you're well.
Yes thats exactly it
Sone we win some we lose...its frustrating as we don't get many good weather days but I just wanted to go hone, and that's ok too
Very busy working at the mo but wild camps planned for next week!!!
When you feel like this, sit down make a brew, hydrate and eat to fuel your mind and body then regroup, weigh up your options.
You had no plan which made you frustrated and dare I say a bit emotional. Once you’ve sewn some doubt in your mind you will undoubtedly act on it.
Always have a plan & a back up, you look mentally drained and need to regroup and gain that great mindset you usually possess. Everybody has an off day lovely.
Keep being you and improving yourself as you want to, be the new you.
Take Care now x
Thank you for your kind words of support.. There's a lot going on at the moment I'm working through alone. I can do this! It's just a scary/exciting time amd a big change xx
Very wise, it works, same as in survival, make a fire, in this case a cooker with a brew, re charge energy banks and formulate your next actions and then you have a positive path.
You know isn't that what life is all about. It doesn't always go the way we planned. But we make the most of it, And you did a phenomenal job!
Thank you 😊
It was still an adventure. Learn from it and always enjoy the experience.
Thank you
Well done for the exam success.
Thank you for taking us on a lovely sunny walk.
Thanks so much!!!
A big congratulations on the Exams! It looked like a nice day walk. One day at a time. Keep your spirits up and stay strong. You can do whatever you put your mind to.
Yes! Thank you! Hope the vid was entertaining even thru the failed camp lol 😆
Tehe, great intro. It's not an Adventure without a little excitement 😂
Thanks! 😃
If it doesn't feel right, then it'd not right. The idea is to chill out, not stress out. Remember, tomorrow is always the start of a new adventure ❤xx
Congrats on the exams. Well done. Beautiful scenic walk, Squirrels, cows and ants, even the bird song. Correct decision, if your gut says no, listen, pull out, tomorrow is another day. Hope the ankle and knee get better fast
I get knee pain when I havent exercised enough ( desk job and bus driving ) in a bus u don't use ur left side lol
I need to hike and cycle more..
My ankles are weak again not enough walking I think... that leads to foot pain... ahhh I'm getting old!
I will keep trying tho.... thank u for watching 👀 💓
I always carry ankle and knee braces or material/ bandaging in case in preparation of a feeling of stress or strain on joints, having learned the hard way, which can cost your life. Every little bit of support helps.
I've always believed that you should listen to your intuition even if it means bailing. Something felt dodgy so you did the right thing. There's always tomorrow
😊 so true
At least you got out and about, plus carrying that big bag will do wonders for your endurance for your Wales trip💪👍🏼. That looked a nice enough place to walk, so win win really.
When you plan to camp, set off later in the day, less cars and less people. Anytime you feel you've failed, you learn.
Good video nonetheless, always upbeat👍🏼😎🏞⛺️
Thank you for ur support 🙏🏻
Loved the intro 😅 beautiful woodland amd birds singing
Glad you enjoyed it
Agreed its magical, sadly very few birds near where i live.
You hit the nail on the head when you said you weren't feeling it, and that area is rife with wood ants, ticks, and far too peopley, plenty of remote areas in the peaks where you don't see anyone even on a sunny afternoon.
Ugh didn't consider ticks... im lucky so far iv never had dealings with them on hiking trips... bloody hate them tho!!
Good video hope all goes well for you hope to see you on the bike soon.
Yes planning to have a go at bike packing if the weather would just pick up a bit. Watch this space!
Love it Lilu, Steve 👍
Thank u 💓
All the best intentions. Well done for trying. No lesser in my book 👍always next time 👍😊
Thank you 😀
Enjoyed that! Thats the problem with the Peak District when the sun comes out, so does everyone else. I reckon it was a good call not staying. If it doesn't feel right there's no point. Oh, the external mic was great. The audio was spot on! Congratulations on the exam 👍
Thank u so much 💓
lovely walk. But like you I like to go when it is a little less populated. It isn't relaxing to go and feel like you have just queued all the way and are constantly having to step off the path for faster walkers or those going the other way. Great video again!
Latest video tonight at 5pm 😄
Just started following you today and I already know I’m gonna enjoy watching your adventures! Even though this didn’t go to plan I really enjoyed it 😍
Awesome! Thank you! That means a lot..! New video coming out next week... keeping it real again and I like to show things how it happens...and it normally includes mishaps! 😄
I find myself going through a big transition. Change is the only constant. You seem to be moving strength to strength each week. Congratulations on the exams!
Yes! Thank you!
Welcome to the Osprey squeaky backpack club! I have two and both squeak.
Nooooo!!!! It didn't squeak to start!!! Why why why lol
@@AdventuresWithLilu It only starts when you’ve walked out the shop. I believe it’s a common “feature”.
@@densylm498 🤣🤣🤣🤣 brilliant 👏🏻
Just managed to watch your latest video 👍 those woods looked bloody creepy for a start 🫣 I definitely would not have been camping there 😁 looking pretty slippery in places too !! Maybe you should think about acquiring a special pair of bugger off boots especially for such conditions! And under extreme conditions stick a bit of lead in each boot to help stay upright 🙈. You definitely did the right thing going home and best all round when you are not feeling yourself and a bit emotional too ! I normally find having a hot bath followed by feet up and several ice cold tinnies whilst watching an episode of Portals to Hell with Jack Osborne usually does the trick 👍🍺💪😃
🤣🤣🤣 made me chuckle 😃
It be a Grey Wagtail, flower.
Thank you!
Always trust your feelings ❤️
"When in doubt, pack it out" no shame in it, stay wise, stay safe.
Thanks!
@@AdventuresWithLilu You are most welcome, i have done it more times than i can remember, after once breaking my ankle in a blizzard that had arisen out of the blue in the Brecon/Black Mountains during Army training, on my own, i thought i had reached my last day.
I remembered that an SAS officer Major Mike Kealy had frozen to death not far from where i was, which was a sobering thought. Into Basic survival mode and i lived through it by bedding down in a ditch covered by a poncho, tied to my rucksack/Bergen, and used my last match to get my cooker boiling water to refill my flask, and get a hot sweet drink, and some protein and carbs down my neck, learned a lot of valuable life saving lessons from it too.
Usually i push on like you did, but when the conditions, the weather, the gut feeling and survival instinct kicks in it is much wiser to say "OK enough is enough, time to get out and live another day"
Lol sounds like Scarlett O 'Hara in Gone With the Wind "Tomorrow is another day".
There is a a whole life to live and it is just another lesson, all seemingly negative things can be turned to a positive outcome, learning that changed my personality and my life. I rarely get angry anymore, life is a serious but i like to laugh at myself and situations and say "well mate you learned another lesson" and that is always positive.
No blame, no shame, you did the logical intelligent thing. To be positive it tested your rucksack for future problems. Did you find out what the creaking was?
All the best, stay safe and wise, and keep on living and enjoying.
Interesting read, thank you for sharing...
Amd no iv not had chance to use the bag since. The weather is awful and iv been delayed by waiting for a delivery.. thats kept me house bound and still not arrived lol
So annoying!
But thank you for all the advice.. on to the next adventure!
Just right bailing. Everone does sometimes. If you had stayed and had a negative experience it might have really put you off.
Dont think i would have chanced crossing on those two branches. You could have gone in and perhaps hit your head and the bag taken you down.
On the plus side you learned loads and tested yourself and your gear and you will go out wiser next time. The video is a really good one because you explored the way things were going and how you were reacting which made it interesting and I certainly could associate with it. Congratulations on passing your exams
Thank you so much! 😄 I'm a bit of a lemming when it comes to risk taking... iv been lucky a few times
Lilu you have such wise viewers, nice to be here when there is so much negativity around
Congratulations on passing your exams, whatever they were for / are leading too! No doubt you will tell all in the fullness of time. As for your video, you are absolutely right.....if you're not feeling it, there's no point.....and no shame in calling it a day and going home. Did enjoy it though. Cheers. Ken
Thank you so much!! I can't wait to explain what's going in behind the scenes but a few from work will be watching and will sabotage I'd they find out..... best to hang fire for now
Thank you for your kind support 😀
You’re very welcome.😊😊
Lovely to see, Lilu. To me, you seemed ...distracted.
Congratulations on passing the exams 🎉🎉
There's A LOT I'm working through career wise .. I'm home alone so I have to make decisions alone too and I get anxious... its all good... just lots on my mind and this hike was frustrating for me
Thank you for your support x
You gave it a good go. All will be well when you come back to Wales. Croeso'n ol x
Next week I hope to visit! Got delayed this week with work stuff
Thanks for watching 👀 😄
The small yellow bellied bird is a grey wagtail, they can be seen all over the country at this time of year. I find that’s the one problem too lilu, you get some nice weather and everyone descends where you wish to camp. I think you were feeling the way you are before you bailed because of the change of seasons, it’s great camping alone but since lockdown more people are discovering the outdoors. We get it here in Norfolk, Easter is over and it seems the world and their brother are about and the once quiet spots are invaded making wild camping a little bit harder. Take care and love your videos.❤👍
Thank you so much 😊
hello again. nothing wrong with your choice . if it does not feel good. go home. best choice . good to see you anyway. only you know when it feels ok. i think a good call. 👍👍❤
Thank you... yes, to be honest, after thinking about it, because of my anxiety, I didn't think I fancied sitting with my thoughts in a tent alone all night. I've been watching simple tv to distract me... things will get easier.. New career fear is causing it lol
@@AdventuresWithLilu anxiety is my thing. i feel you. x
Ants hate Teatree oil, infact most insects are repelled by it. I used to use the original source shower gel before hikes 😉
Ahhh good thinking bat man il put that on my list too!
Bottom line is that sometimes you're just not in the mood for something. No shame in that. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Loved the walk all the same. Best of luck for your Wales trip
Thank you so much 😊
Good video , yeah sometimes the vibe doesn't feel right , there's a lot of public hotspots I avoid now, usually places where people can drive right up to , and I like a bit of peace and quiet on walks, best wishes 🦇🦇 .
Yep my mistake but I had no signal on my phone to find anywhere to go... I set off too late in the day... never mind lol
Don't feel bad. I went to Mor Tor area yesterday to do a wild camp (never been to peak district) but I did the hike and then drove home. Too many people, and not remote enough in this weather to safely wild camp. Good luck on your next adventure.
I'm not sure where mor tor us? Busy on a week day even? Hmm... its not easy is it. I get anxious with people about..
I wont camp unless I'm sure I'm alone
If u mean mam tor...yep it's like pucadilly circus up there all the time. I avoid!
Who knew Chrissie Hynde was into hiking and camping! ;)
Plenty pretty enough place to hike, but you did the right thing in not camping if you weren't feeling it. Good exercise and lots to learn from for next time, plus you saw a yellow wagtail; yay!
First time on your channel. Liked and subscribed. Looking forward to more adventures with you.
Haha, iv been called that before!! 🤣 I have a new video coming soon on the editing table...another camping fail but the location is perfect 👌🏻
@@AdventuresWithLilu So, I don't need to go to Specsavers then!?! 😉 That's a relief.
Looking forward to watching your new upload; I'm sure it was a roaring success.
Was getting withdrawal symptoms as you havnt been on lately 😀don't worry about not camping at least the weather was nice and you got to test out your new rucksack 😀 look forward to see your videos from Wales 😊
Haha thank you 😊
There's always nxt time, no sense trying to force it, as a aside, padley gorge looks cracking for a stealth camp lol, the peaks on a sunny Sunday will always be super busy, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
It's so noisy there with traffic but the bird song was beautiful!
Mooow 😂❤😂
🤣🐄
Little bird was Pied Wagtail ! Good video as usual Lilu !!
Thank you 😊 🙏🏻
Hello Lilu, I think that lil yellow bird could have been a yellow wagtail. 😀 There is always another day for a camp - nice scenic walk.
Yes thank u so much 💓
@@AdventuresWithLilu despite it having some yellow on it, this is a grey wagtail.
Can ride a crazy pony and get thrown off but won’t walk past some cows 🤪
Congrats on passing exams, now take some time to yourself and get your knee better. Hope you reach 5,000 subs very soon. Xx
🤣🤣🤣 you'll never let me forget Katinka lol, and thanks....😄.. cant rest yet...this old birds got to get thru the next stage, but it's exciting!
👍
Good Luck Lilu.
Did I miss the Roughneck hatchet video - got one recently and wondered what you thought. Great video as always
I havent had the opportunity to put it yo the test ( on video yet) used it at home.. I like it! It's on the list of videos to do!
@@AdventuresWithLilu Sharpened mine with the kitchen knife sharpener and now i think I could use it as a letter opener (not sure if this is a good thing when splitting wood).
🤣
Still another great video, hope things go well for you 😂
Thank you 😁
Peak district is a no go area on weekends now. The roads are gridlocked, Parking is impossible and everywhere everywhere is busy with people
Agreed (I live there) however I do get some weekdays off, avoid school holidays and you can camp successfully on a weekday night
For sure I was stupid to attempt ut midday on a Sunday but the weather was do nice and it's rain forecast now...lesson learnt the hard way tho 😅
Trust your gut Lilu
My second wild camp I bailed I was exhausted keep going chin chin
Yes it can feel deflating but there's always another day to sit in a tent all night 🤭
Congrats
You just need a hammock so you can stop and take it easy whenever you want there.😂😊❤😊... hiking gets pretty fast sometimes when all a person wants is to enjoy the outdoors.
Me...in a hammock 🤣🤣 that sentence doesn't make sense as I wouldn't be able to get in it for starters let aline take it easy 🤣🤣
Careful! We can't have you falling and hurting yourself. Nice woodland. Wagtail, pied wagtail? Wag-tailed tit? Motorbikes have a place too - I've had a few in my day. I've not been to the Peak District yet. I was saving it for retirement - in 4 years, I have a list places to go. (jungle hammocks come with built in bug net). (There was a 6 planet alignment last night). I hope you make 4 million.
Yes I agree..I had 2 motorbikes 🏍 and I'd have loved to bike round that area too... it just spoil the bird sing somewhat but my bad for going on a Sunday lol
I'm tempted to attempt the alport castle route I'd planned tomoro but have now got a delivery coming soon...I must wait for it.. waiting for the delivery update to say when...then il go if there's time 😄 thank you for watching 👀 😀
@@AdventuresWithLilu I'm going back to planned adventures in my backyard - the Forest of Bowland - I have three fells in 10 miles to complete - cause apparently I didn't touch as trig on camera - whatever- But my thing is just being out there. I don't video my walks and camps out there because like people who video their church services or visits to the mosque or synagogue - I'm in a religious devotion a the same time being a Pagan. Nature is my religion the countryside is my church. But I may start doing videos outdoors on non sabat trips. BB
I can highly recommend DD's travel Hammock/ Bivvi. But you'll want some Tree Huggers. Then coupled with the DD Hammock Matress and you'll have an incredible sleep! Although the Matress is slightly disturbingly Coffin shaped!
THANK YOU once again for your kindness... I will look into the DD hammock...im sure I'd fall out of it and that would make another entertaining vid 😅😅 il put it on my list!!
@@AdventuresWithLilu once you get the hang of it, Hammocks are so comfortable. You are most welcome. So happy you passed your exam, onwards and upwards Chick! 😉
Thank you so much 😊
minute 08:26 same here in Germany.... Terrible....
thinking of going there the monsil trail im east yorkshire so not too far . ?
🙏🙏💎💎💖💖😢😢You will feel better next time out

Your site is not just a hiking venue, it's a journey. I would never disparage them, I have no right. But some people never get out their front door. A friend's son fell off a Munro. His university kindly awarded him an honorary medical degree. We never talk of it, I cannot imagine my friend's pain. His son died looking at the skies. If one could offer a sufficient eulogy one would have to offer it to the best of humanity. Only god's condemn, I have never wished for such pretension or hubris. Thank you for what you do. I walk with interesting women. My best wishes. Look after yourself.
Thank you
Little tunnels under roads, railways etc are culverts.
Ah thanks 😊 what's a culvert? Lol
Like I keep saying .... bicycles are freedom 😉.... all of that strife started with the car ... good on you though for keeping it real

@@AdventuresWithLilu without doxing yourself roughly where are you based? ... you'd be surprised how much ground can be covered quite quickly .... for perspective the Lands End to John O Groats record is roughly 43.5 hours ... and 11-18 days is considered a leisurely pace for mortals if that helps to get an idea

Owler Tor is pronounced Oler Tor in't local dialect. Don't fear cows, they are more afraid of you than you are of them, the worst thing you can do is run away. If they run towards you just stand your ground and they will stop.
The bird was a yellow wagtail.
Those cows were angry lol and much closer than it looked on the camera lol
I was not taking any chances 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a Grey Wagtail, not a yellow wagtail 😊
I just wondered when are we able to get married together as I am sure it would work out
