Scottish independence will make Scotland wealthier
UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s budget will see Scotland face crippling inflation with record taxes and spending cuts - a new austerity agenda that Labour is also signed up to. But it isn’t all bad news. In his effort to balance the books, Hunt has unwittingly revealed the true extent of Scotland’s wealth. A £14 Billion tax windfall on oil and gas. It’s an enormous figure, but not quite the whole story. Closer inspection of the budget reveals the UK expects to raise around £80 Billion from oil and gas taxes between now and 2028. A truly incredible sum. But there’s more. The UK’s new tax on electricity generation, including renewables, is expected to bring in £14 Billion in the same period. In total, the UK expects to raise a truly staggering £94 Billion in energy tax within the next six years. And some suspect it could perhaps be much much more.
Where does this leave Scotland? To understand the significance, we need to realise just how energy rich our nation is. With 8% of the UK population, Scotland has 96%t of UK oil and 63% of gas. We also have 90% of hydro with 25%t and rising of U K renewables. Scotland is a huge player in UK energy and of the £94 Billion the UK government expects to raise in tax, an estimated £70 Billion will come from Scotland.
What could Scotland do with this amazing sum?
We could have a wealth fund just as the Norwegians and every other energy rich nation does. We could insulate every home in Scotland to ensure our people never need face heating or eating again. Scotland could develop its energy grid to harness and distribute power more effectively. We could make the transition away from oil and gas to clean power faster and fairer. Scotland could finance a huge expansion of publicly owned energy production and export what we don’t use, with the potential to sell ten times what we require. Scotland could attract business and investment with cheap power. The potential is huge. But there’s one thing in the way. The U K government controls Scotland’s energy and the tax on those profits go straight to the London exchequer. There’s only one way to change that: Scottish independence.

10 years on and there are STILL a large number of loyalist cults in Scotland who are trying to tell everyone that independence is 'dead in the water' yet they still talk about it... 😂😂😂. They turned their backs on Scotland for Westminster rule yet they have the audacity to claim they are 'proud' scots, where is the pride in voting AGAINST Scotland, they are traitors

All these videos are quite well produced. Am I right in assuming that the MSM has no desire to promote these questions that you raise? It does seem to me that the MSM is fixated on only promoting negative aspects that they claim are part of being independent and that may be because so much political actions out of England and the US are active misdirection, where the real reasons for events and behavior are kept from the public

  • @jsigur157

I disagree that immigration in England has been a result of their colonial empire. What has been going on the last 50 years is intentional and this is because that the leaders of England and the US and Western Europe are internationalists and therefore create their priorities accordingly. The belief is a homogeneous white population, proud of its country, proud of its heritage, will be harder to manage and to govern. Therefore this intense illegal flooding is an accident that was made to happen behind the scenes. What is going on at the US southern border never would have been tolerated prior to 1970. I do agree that Nordic countries, because they are literally trying to do a good job for its people handles all these issues way better than the adverserial systems in the Uk and the US

The currency issue was the weak link during 2014. All future action has to involve clarity on the currency, and it's not difficult for Scotland to set up its own, without heavy debts, such as England's 3 Trillion National Debt... more than half of which accumulated by the Tories in the past decade. The Common Weal have a few free ebooks covering all of this.

Scotland can make it anytime, just like our small countries in Scandinavia, Estland and the Faroe Islands. When I think over the time being Danish: watching my grandparents holiday pictures from Norway back in the 50's where the tunnels weren't dug, driving small roads over the mountains. We started visiting Norway when i was 8 months old in 1968, still driving through this beautifull landscape, through the 70's. But sure things went fast. I worked in Norway 1986, meeting modern tunnels and the Norwegians much more confident. And now they are better off than Denmark! But dear Norwegians: Olsenbanden is ours! The former East Germans can confirm that as they loved it too. Was surprised when visiting people near Rostock that they even knew the names of the actors. I would love to watch your Norwegian version some time. And sorry to say: Norwegian Sunset might be sung at many Norwegian funerals, but genious Bent Fabricius-Bjerre was Danish :)

BRITAIN made Denmark enter the war on Napoleon's side. Wasn't quite our idea. Denmark was neutral. But the Danish fleet was larger than the British, so better be safe than sorry: the British made a sneak attack on a neutral country to sink the fleet. And then Denmark was dragged into the war on Napoleon's side. Thank you, Britain

I'm not so sure I agree completely with Warren's contention that a trade deficit is a good thing. If a country has a lot of oil and not much else, for example, it might be able to produce a lot more oil than it can possibly use, and to keep its people and resources fully employed, it might need to export more than it imports. Modern industry and agriculture are so productive that no country's economy can keep everybody employed purely on the strength of its internal market. Ever since the US has been in chronic balance of trade deficit, the US share of global consumption may have expanded, but US inequality has also grown. That may be a purely distributional phenomenon unrelated to the current account, but my instinct says not.

If Scotland became independant, it would not automatically, nor directly, be accepted into the EU; There is a test period for their own independence, just like any other member state, that needs to be assessed before that even becomes an option. I think it was like 3 years or so, but I could be wrong. It's not as if the moment it left the UK, the EU would automatically take over the benefits it enjoys from the UK right now (such as they are).

Be aware of that the islanders are only a few thousand people and they get no break online where any video about the islands, be it about sports, food, travel or any subject, is being flooded by hate comments about the islanders preferred food. To me that is 100% harrasement., They have no chance to show the world a diversed balanced view of the islands, without it being flooded by hate I get that people do not like seeing cute animals getting bloody slaughtered, but that happens every day in every country, it is just hidden in huge slaughter houses, and the big difference is that the animals the islanders preferred to eat are animals that actually had a good life, were not enslaved or killed for money, unlike any of the animals we enslave and bloody mass kill every day, in millions in any western country - but if all videos about Foodball, architecture, design, technology, basicually any video about any subject from any country in western world, if those videos would be flooded by hate comments about how that country enslaves innocent animals, deprive them of all natural enviroment, pump them with chemicals and biotics, and brutally bloody mass kill every generation of them every few weeks, I think all people would say that is utterly harrasement and has nothing to do with the video about football, design, architecture, pop culture or anything No wonder so many people simply just hate organisations like Sea Shepherd when people behave like that
