I agree 100% I just found one for $261 used in great shape... On a crop sensor you can zoom to 750mm which I have with my Nikon D5300 from my late twin as well as a full sensor Sony camera but could not swing the high cost to get a zoom for it... I love the lens and even though I am a petite lady of 60, I can handle the weight just fine..getting beautiful hummingbird in flight photos. All kinds of birds and I just got it this week.

Thanks for this very imp information
Most welcome. Glad it helped ☺️
Is this lens still available?
Hi, which lens?
Canon 300 mm F4 IS which you mentioned at the beginning of this video.
@@umajps yes, it's still available but it's probably better to look for it in the used camera market
Hello sir. I want to teach photography to my son.He ia 13 years old.Can you help me with more details plz. Thanks Regards..
That's wonderful! Please see www.girishmenon.com/ and get in touch with me with your needs. Thanks and regards
Very nice, sir
Thank you so much! 😀
In my previous school, every Friday we had a scouts and guides class and we would be put into a group where we choose what our group should be based on. All of us chose kingfisher and we would wear a badge based on the kingfisher that friday. It's my favourite bird up until today and seeing its beauty up close just makes me feel so happy inside ❤
Thanks for sharing that story with us! Love it 😄
Wow...wish I'd been there...
You should go see elephants. Summer is a good time as they are moving towards the river
Dear Girish , I am watching your videos on u tube ,which always increase my knowledge and moral too.I am having D500 and 200 500 lens, I am enjoying it, but one of my friend said that go for 500 prime.. is is worth. Just because my age (66).Kindly guide me.
Hi, if you can afford the 500 f/5.6 PF lens, it's a wonderful lens and incredibly small and light for a 500 prime lens. 500 f/4 prime lenses are expensive and heavy but have their own advantages, especially in low light. If you're interested in clicking birds, the 500 PF lens offers more versatility, especially since it makes it so convenient to use it hand held. However if you're interested in clicking animals also on Jeep safaris, the 200-500 offers a larger range of focal lengths which is important because many times 500mm is too much zoom - for example when a tiger is crossing the track close to your Jeep. Thanks for watching my videos are commenting, I appreciate it 😊
@@TheOpenImage many many thanks
SO well said! I agree with you 100% about Nikon (and other camera makers) forcing people to buy expensive mirrorless cameras that are new and have more megapixels, but sometimes come with lower capabilities than the "old" DSLRs like the D500. I had though that there was no better choice that to buy a still-expensive Z6ii which has poor autofocus, but now I am encouraged to look more at the D500 - used and old, but not necessarily worse.
They've done a great disservice to students and others who just want to explore some basic photography by discontinuing entry-level DSLR cameras. I know many people who have put away their photography endeavours because cameras cost too much. Thanks for watching my video and writing a comment. I appreciate it 😊
Wow nice 👍

Hi, my website is up! Please see www.girishmenon.com
Yes you are absolutely correct but if budget is not a constraint one should go for Sony A9iiii. In my opinion this one is the best for wildlife photography. It shots 120 times a second.
Everyone says it's the best BUDGET lens for wildlife. It's a damn good lens, budget be damned!
Ha ha there are always deals on the used gear market 😁
Good comparison! What can a 300 mm f4 prime with TC1.4x do in your opinion? Definitely not good for small birds, but what can be captured with significant sharpness?
I haven't used the 300 + 1.4X but AF might be relatively slow, especially with older versions of lenses and teleconverters. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it 😊
I appreciate this video

Hi sir i use a 5dm4 with 300mm f4 lens and 1.4 extender but i dont get autofocus as fast as it should be i dont know why
Which extender is it? Is it the Mark III? The Mark III will work a little better than previous versions
Great review, but now Nikon have come out with 180-600 mm Z mount for their mirrorless series, it would be great to review and compare the 2 great lenses
Indeed!
Thanks for these videos They are a great help

Thanks so much for video, much appreciated! However, I own both Nikon F100 (film) and D800 cameras. That "E" aperture will only work on D800 but not F100. Is there any similar lens to that but without "E" aperture so I can use on both cameras that I own? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it 😊 Have you tried the older 80-400 lens?
@@TheOpenImage I will definitely check into that! Thanks!!
Hi there! I have two questions related to this and Live View. When I take a picture in Live View the screen goes black while it processes the picture. Do you experience the same thing? When in Live View I also can't seem to enable AI Servo. The camera stays in One Shot while in Live View, but does have AI Servo available when shooting through the view finder. I've only had my 7D Mark II for a few days, but I do have a 5D Mark IV, and the screen stays lit up when shooting in Live View, and AI Servo is a selectable option in both Live View and OVF shooting. I'm hoping you can give me some helpful insight here!
Hi, I always use the viewfinder, never the live view. The live view is not designed for fast action wildlife photography 😊
@@TheOpenImage Does the screen go black for a second when you take a picture in live view though?
I don't have the camera with me presently. I'll check and let you know the next time I use it...
@@TheOpenImage Thank you! I suspect it's normal behavior, and something that changed with later models.

It’s an awesome lens. I’ll be bringing it on safari. I like to use it on a tripod with a gimbal or monopod or lean on a bag.
I too used to use a gimbal and rely too much on a bean bag when I first got this lens. But then I realised that the best way to maximise the efficiency of this lens is to use it handheld. That’s because its VR is so good that I can click super sharp photographs even at 1/60th of a second. The key here is to learn how to hold your camera setup with your elbows tucked in and resting on your body so that all the weight is taken off your arms. Thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!
Same happened with me... thank you sir for clearing my doubt about it.
Always 😁
In dji osmo pocket microphone can directly connected or any dji adapter needed for connecting this microphone
Only this direct microphone works. Other adapters and mics don't. Perhaps if you use the original DJI adaptor it'll work but they were very difficult to find.

Thank you very much for your videos! I would like to buy a canon TC 1.4x iii and I wonder if it will be compatible with a 7d mark ii and a sigma 150-600 C. have you ever been able to try it? Thanks in advance!
Hi, no, I haven't used it with a 150-600. Perhaps you should rent out a TC for a couple of days and see if it goes well. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video, I appreciate it 😀
Thank you for the answer. It doesn't work, the autofocus is almost unable to focus: the sigma 150-600 c + canon tc 1.4X are not made to be used together with a 7D mark ii :) autofocus does not work at F9. strangely, it works very well with a canon 5d mark iv which, as with the central collimator of the 7d mark ii, allows focusing up to F8.
Thanks, Girish, very informative video. That helps a lot, I sometimes find that some of my images come out a little softer than I'd like, even at lower ISOs. Maybe it's just poor lighting conditions. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching and commenting on my video, I appreciate it 😁
The exact same situation here , i bought my lens second hand with the UV filter attached , and I was disappointed with quality of my images ( knowing I did great with the 70-300 vr ). Thank you so much for the tip
