    I use the following manual focus prime lenses for surveillance, sports, birds, and other wildlife:
    200mm f/5.6
    300mm f/6.3
    400mm f/5.6
    500mm f/4
    I will consider using the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E auto focus telephoto zoom lens instead.

    Thank you, this is a very timely review for me. This will be a part of my thinking in the process of making my next purchase decisions. You did a nice job. You give very good technical advice, which I think is valuable for many of your relatively beginner viewers. Also, some of your photos are very striking. I was very impressed with your photos of the hyena yawning. What a nice sequence of images!

    I have a 500 pf, and Z9. then I carry also a Z6ii with 70-200 plus 1.4 TC. So changing the 500 pf for the 200-500 for zoom flexibility. better than to carry 2 bodies and 2 lenses. I also take my 24-200 lens so it will cover the gap but I use it for wide shots. Great video.

    Hey there! Nice video, thanks! The dust problem is most probably caused by the moving tube and not by a missing filter on the front lens, which is sealed. If you pull the tube, it will also pull air. The sealing of an expending tube will never be 100%, so it's just a matter of time when you'll find dust inside a lens. Dusty environemts will accelerate this process. That's why internal zoomed lenses have a huge advantage regarding dust and moisture resistance.

    • @TheOpenImage
      @TheOpenImage  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Agreed. The service centre folks suggest that a filter helps keep some dust off.

    I agree 100% I just found one for $261 used in great shape... On a crop sensor you can zoom to 750mm which I have with my Nikon D5300 from my late twin as well as a full sensor Sony camera but could not swing the high cost to get a zoom for it... I love the lens and even though I am a petite lady of 60, I can handle the weight just fine..getting beautiful hummingbird in flight photos. All kinds of birds and I just got it this week.

    It’s an awesome lens. I’ll be bringing it on safari. I like to use it on a tripod with a gimbal or monopod or lean on a bag.

    • @TheOpenImage
      @TheOpenImage  Před 5 měsíci

      I too used to use a gimbal and rely too much on a bean bag when I first got this lens. But then I realised that the best way to maximise the efficiency of this lens is to use it handheld. That’s because its VR is so good that I can click super sharp photographs even at 1/60th of a second.
      The key here is to learn how to hold your camera setup with your elbows tucked in and resting on your body so that all the weight is taken off your arms.

    • @TheOpenImage

      It's always a combination of different settings to give you the best results on moving targets. I have a video in my channel where I speak more about the AF settings to click birds in flight. As far as the adapter goes, I'm not so sure. It's easier to mount Canon and other brands on Sony cameras as compared to Nikon 😃

    Love your photos sir. So you would recommend Nikon over canon?

    • @TheOpenImage
      @TheOpenImage  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Neither is better than the other. If you're into wildlife photography, Canon doesn't offer you a good affordable 500 mm lens. Their 100-400 IS II is excellent, but falls short for birds whereas Nikon have their 200-500 & 500 PF lenses which are both fantastic 500 mm lenses in different price brackets, much more affordable than their top-of-the-line 500 f/4.
