I’m extremely excited for this game, but I’m not particularly happy they pulled a Ubisoft and locked quests behind pre-orders. That stuff is bullshit. Everything should be available to everybody on day one.

This preview encapsulates why I don't trust any impressions of this game that come from people that didn't play the original. Silent Hill 2 comes from a time when video games were still highly experimental, and not the microtransaction/DLC laden, addictive gameplay loop, carbon copies we get today. The OG silent hill series chose to heavily emphasize atmosphere, tension, and story over gameplay. As long as the combat works and serves the tense atmosphere, I don't really care about its mechanics, and would honestly prefer them to be fairly simplistic. It has been stated directly by the dev team that it is a secondary element of the game in the remake, which I find highly encouraging. It means they've focused on the right things. The new story trailer has me far more excited for this game than any of the gameplay footage.

Ask them why the servers are so bad ,And why the anticheat doesn't work at all . ,also ask why the game nerfs you in some engagements as in your site is on them but you get no hit markers and ghost bullets but they kill u in 2 shots .

What will the guns and if there are zombies what will they be like 😊❤

This is very cool but… driving is a really great feeling. I’d never want to give it up and so I don’t think I’ll feel the need to simulate it. However when I was a kid I would’ve LOVED all this gear!

I remember when this game was a blip on everyones radar, I knew when I forst saw it it was gonna be something great. It blew up, super happy for warhorse.

You can tell the creators were fans of Kung Fu Panda.

To compare the silent hill 2 remake to resident evil rather than the original silent hill 2 is quite baffling. Most of your negatives for the game is what I was hoping for the game. I don’t want it to play like resident evil I want it to play like silent hill.

I played the beta and I also felt like I had to slow down my gameplay which felt more realistic. I like Rush because it gives me an opportunity to play online without being responsible for my whole team.

Criticisms for this game is just beyond comical at this point. It’s either it’s too faithful or it’s too different. Too much combat or not enough lmao. Then a typical RE comparison. I don’t know how you can compare the RPD headquarters to the apartments they’re obviously two different things. The RPD only looked that good cause part of the story was it was previously a museum that was converted to a police headquarters.

I was waiting for any mention of specific game design translations from the original game. This review has only looked at the game as a standalone thing but fails to connect it to its source material - which is the main point of it being a remake. Making statements like "combat is clunky" might be a passable critique for original games, but for a remake that's based on a game with an also clunky combat, that needs to be clarified even further. The title for example: "solid, but still lacking". Lacking based on what standard, the original game or modern horror games? What is the atmosphere like during the intro sequence? What are the changes to the soundtrack, which is the biggest unique trait of Silent Hill? How is the voice performance, which was purposefully uncanny and robotic in the original? What changes were made to the level design especially the build up to the first straightjacket encounter? How is the town designed in terms of exploration? Are there now more open doors without loading screens, or are there still plenty of locked doors? Are the iconic item pickup sounds still preserved or have been replaced? These are the questions that the audience of this game is concerned about; not the discrete elements themselves. Every observation of this game should always be contextualized by how it relates to its source material.

It sounds like you've never played the original, every complaint was things that looked improved on from the original, Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games ever, it's weird to see everything you talked about being "lacking" are things that have literally been improved and expanded upon, tells me that it's very faithful, and new comers will have a similar experience to what I did in the original, just terrible combat being changed to decent combat, sounds really good to me idk 😅

Definitely playing this game in Chinese.
