I saw a vlog that Rachel from stitched up did on the hungry bum and I think that was the Thea shorts x
Amazing I'll check it out
You might like to look at the Upland Trousers by Itch to Stitch. I'm plus sized and the pair I made fitted me perfectly, rise and all, with no alterations. I am planning on making another pair with the green fabric which was in your box with the Tilly and the Buttons pants pattern. It's winter here in New Zealand so the green will make a lovely spring colour. Take care.
Oooh thank you, I've never made any Itch to Stitch patterns so will be good to try out something new!
❤
Have you seen the Chalk and Notch Isle trousers/jeans? You may be able to get a better fit more easily with the Isle because the waist has darts you can adjust and no waistband. Also, the front has patch pockets so easier to grade. I have made two pairs and the instructions are great!
Amazing, thank you I'll take a look! they sound great
Lovely inspirational video, as always ❤
Thank you!
I found this so helpful as I am also plus size. The soi tee shirt looks stunning on you.The cut is so flattering on you and I love the sleeve length. The blue dress looked lovely on you.If you decide to make it again you could always place the pattern pieces on top of the made dress to help remind you of how you altered it. I remember you starting your business, many years ago, before others.I am so pleased to see how you have developed and grown.
Oh thank you so much Maureen for such a lovely comment!! I really appreciate that.
Thanks for sharing Hayley and well done for persevering with the Hughes dress. 💙🧶🌈🍓
Hehe, thank you! Worth the effort in the end!
Hi, all beautiful makes - in particular the blue cloud t shirt and that fabulous dress. I am planning to sew up a few dresses for our summer later on this year. I find it easier to eliminate the pockets when sewing up a new trouser pattern - and then once I am happy with the fit, I reintroduce the pockets. So good luck with your next trouser project. A tried and true trouser pattern is just pure gold. Happy sewing. 🌸
Thank you so much! yes I'm definitely going to do that in the future!
Thanks a bunch, friend. Already have shortened some new Levi jeans from 34 inseam to 31 inseam for my friend's husband. She said he was so pleased how they looked, that she brought another pair for me to alter..
That's great!!
by the way, love my subscription box every month, thank you 🐾🐾
So pleased, thank you so much!
still trying to decide which sizes of the Hughes dress I need for which bits of me! wish me luck! 🐾🐾
Haha, good luck! it is worth it if you can work it out!
Karina of Lifting Pins & Needles has fabulously simple and very well explained videos on increasing front and back rise and she shows grading of pattern using all the pattern pieces which is so simple …. I’m sure you’ll be impressed
Oooh thank you so much I'll check that out!
Just made my first dress after about 40 yrs! It’s huge but I love it! 😂 it’s supposed to be loose & roomy, but I think I might need to alter a wee bit…….thank you for the inspiration ❤
That's amazing!!
@@SewHayleyJane thank you! 😁
I would love to order your boxes but I live in the US and I'm not sure of shipping costs. Would you tell me the cost of the Classic box with shipping to US?
Of course, it’s £40 for a Classic box and an extra £17.50 for tracked international shipping. It’ll change a little each time depending on the exchange rate - currently that equals $72.74
@@SewHayleyJane Thank you for the information.
Made a peasant blouse with flouncy sleeves, it’s lovely and sooo comfortable! Love double glaze
Oooh that sounds lovely!
0:04 I enjoyed your video and can't find the video that you mentioned about different fabrics. I'd love to watch that, thanks!
czcams.com/video/8Xzve5LEk6Q/video.htmlsi=YlQjhsCvzuu3GXVq I think it was this one
DAAAANGGG that's so smart. Will definately remember this 😮👌🏽
Thank you, glad it was useful!
You’re a bit too chatty so I had to leave before tutorial finished
My apologies, thank you for your comment
Each time I make one of these, they come out a lot smaller than I measured! I’m even including extra for seam allowance plus another inch as instructed. Any tips on how to stop this? I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong 😕
They are definitely a snug fit, but if you are finding they are too small try adding an extra 1-2cm to your measurements for a little more ease
@@SewHayleyJane thank you! Will give this a go 😊
Not gonne lie, for a second i thought the interfacing was a dryer sheet. I wonder if a dryer sheet would work as well 🤔
Probably wouldn't want to have that scented material pressed on your inner thigh.
@griffonwillow7789 I mean what if the sheet was used and washed very well after? The sheet is going to be discarded anyways. May as well recycle it.
If you try it, would love to know how it turns out.
Haha, that's an interesting thought! I don't see why not, you're using a cloth to reinforce the denim. I'd say if the jeans are heading for the bin it's worth giving it a go anyway to see!
❤❤
So you're creating new cloth. Nice.
Yes essentially!
I was about to give up on 2 pairs of jeans because of wear like this! Thank you!
Yay, you're welcome!!
Clever! 👏👏
Thank you!
Thank you, some great pattern ideas.😊
Awesomeness 😅😊😊❤
Thank you!
So much fun to be had!!
This felt like a 1:1 masterclass for jersey neckline, very well executed. Thank you!
Great vlogg loads of tips taking the fear away from sewing with double gauze thank you❤
You're very welcome!
I have a question! Does cotton double gauze tend to be a little bit see-through...?
Not to the point you'd need a lining. A pale colour like this you'd be able to see darker undergarments through it but with skin tone undergarments you wouldn't see them. And if the double gauze is a darker colour it wouldn't be see through
I have white double glaze and you can see bra, but not to much, it hangs looser on my peasant blouse
Will definitely try the ballpoint needle for my fine or snag-prone fabrics - thanks for passing on the tip👍💕
I hope it works for you!
This video really was useful as I have often looked at it but never bought any.
Definitely give it a go, it's such a pleasure to sew with
I like using clips.
I really need to get some of those!
@@SewHayleyJane They’re cheap on Amazon
Would like to know what settings you used on your serger.
I just found your channel today Hayley, and I'm totally sold! I love your humor, your real and true life comments. You made a great video, that was fun to watch. I'm OLD, so I've been sewing since before the ice age, but I still love to watch and learn like the rest of the crowd. I'm hoping to learn at least one thing every day until I'm gone. That's called growing. Have a great day, hope you didn't get drenched waiting at the school, and yes, summer is coming. Here, it is already miserable humidity and heat. So keep up the hope! Sadie...
Thank you so much for the tips and tricks for sewing double gauze! I always enjoy your videos!❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Sadie, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
@@LauraSup Thank you so much!!
I have a metre of double gauze on my "next" pile that I'm planning to make into PJ shorts so this was great timing. Thanks for the tips and tricks.
Amazing!! Enjoy
Thanks Hayley. I’ve never sewn with double gauze and this video has given me the confidence to give it a go.
Hooray!!!
🎉 I want to make something for my grandbabies from this fabric (besides a blanket)… do you have any recommendations? ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing ❤❤
If they are babies a little romper would be so cute, I've just made my 6 year old a Below The Kowhai "Kauri Dress" which I think is suitable for 1-10 year olds
This has been very helpful. I have been making drawstring ruched pants, but I’m having trouble 1. making the drawstrings with a fabric that frays so much, and 2. making the button holes in this fabric. Ah. I do like to set myself up for a challenge…..😅
Yikes!!! good luck
Thank you for all the tips. I’ve washed my pink dg but haven’t decided what to make yet… maybe pj bottoms from Friday pattern co sport shorts…. 🧐. Looking forward to July’s box. (I need to update my house #… ). I just stitched up the honeycomb/ bee cross stitch. It’s very cute! Done in two days. 😮
Oooh yes make sure to update your address!! The shorts would be very cute, and so pleased you like the cross stitch
great video Hayley! thank you for the education on any fabrics that you give us. I love double gauze and got some many moons ago in one of your boxes. Still have some in a different color and was thinking today about what a nice nightgown it would make. It does grow for whoever hasn't used it. In my case, since I grew a bit, this has been a blessing. xx Karen
It would be perfect for a nightgown!!
Thank you for the tips for double gauze. I’ve recently purchase some DG to sew the Agnes Pyjamas.
Ooh that will be lovely!
when you press double gauze do you use steam? xx
I haven't used any extra steam other that what the iron produces
Lovely video thank you. I am tempted to make bed shorts in some fabric I have as it will be so soft. I made a blouse with double gauze once and it didnt drape well so was put off but you have encouraged me to have another go ❤
Yes it definitely doesn't have the same kind of drape as a viscose or crepe, works well as a loosely structured shirt though. Glad you're going to have another go
Thanks Hayley! I learned the hard way about ironing double gauze - I didn’t know - and when I wore the dress I’d made, it just grew and grew! Now I iron before I sew, so it grows first!
Ah no I'm sorry about that! But yes, first we shrink it in the watch and then we grow it out with the iron!! 😀
@@SewHayleyJane no no, it wasn’t your advice! My growing dress was years ago! I was agreeing with you, actually. Thanks for the video xxx
Thanks so much for compiling all this info! I’m just going to start a project with double gauze and I feel more prepared now!
That's great, best of luck with it!
Thank you so much! I love double gauze fabrics and was just shopping for clothes made of it yesterday. I've never sewn with it, but will try now!
Definitely give it a go, it's such a lovely fabric to work with!
I made a Donny shirt in double gauze, and Pj bottoms, love them, so comfy! now on the hunt for some lovely patterned double gauze for a dress. Do you think DG would be good for the RANI skirt? 🐾🐾
Oooh lovely! Yes I think double gauze would work for Rani, it won't move quite as freely as a viscose or crepe but it will be lovely
Thanks for the info
You're welcome
I was going to sew the Geranium dress by Made by Rae for my granddaughter in the watermelon double gauze from one of your boxes. The bodice is lined. Seems like two layers of double gauze might be two thick (4 layers of fabric?). Can you line double gauze with another type of fabric? It is a summer dress.
That sounds like a lovely idea! I agree I probably wouldn't line it with double gauze, I'd maybe use a lightweight viscose instead which will be lovely and soft to wear
Okay, I will try that. Thank you so much for your help. ❤
Cotton lawn for lining?
