Hi Hayley. I'm glad you're feeling better. On the wool, yes, pre-wash. Even in cool/lukewarm water the fabric can shrink -- most of my woven wool yardage seems to shrink 5 to 8 percent as long as the soap is gentle or designed for wool and I soak it without agitating or swishing around. That much shrinking can ruin all the meticulous fitting you've done to make a beautiful jacket.
I've never tried the dryer technique with a wet towel, but it makes me shiver in my boots to think about that much agitation to the wool fibers when damp.
Pre-washing and then drying wool yardage is a challenge. If the fabric is heavy, you have to be careful to support it when moving while wet so the weight doesn't pull on the fibers. Of course the fabric will be even heavier to move around when wet too. I usually lay out beach towels on the floor, then the wet wool yardage flat, more towels on top, then roll up and walk gently on the roll so the towels absorb some of the water. After that I unroll and put the damp but not dripping woven wool fabric out on more (dry) beach towels to air dry, turning over the whole piece periodically. Or if it's nice weather and you have a patch of grass in the shade, you can lay it out on the grass and the air will circulate through. I still think pre-washing/drying is worth it so I can avoid dry cleaning down the line and have confidence that what I make won't change shape dramatically.
I've also had pieces of wool fabric bleed dye profusely at the first washing (mostly with bright or dark solid colors), which you definitely don't want to happen after the lining is sewn in. And if it's boiled wool, don't even try to wash it in water -- I've had pieces shrink 25% -- I've given up on boiled wool fabric these days.
Your jacket is going to be beautiful, Antonia

You can place wool in a large wash bag and quick-wash in the washing machine at 20 degrees. Alternatively, ' hover' steam with a good iron.

The old fashioned way of pre-shrinking wool is to wrap it in a damp sheet and leave it for a day, then toss it into the dryer or let it air dry. If you have a steam setting on your washer or dryer that should get most sizing out.
I send bigger pieces to the dry cleaner to have them steam it, or lay it out on the floor and hit it with a lot of steam and leave it to dry.
Wools can turn into felt if you're not careful when tossing them into the washer.

I have some wool boucle (boiled wool) and have been waiting till now to sew a coat as this summer has been so hot I did not feel like sewing a wool coat. I am going to do the wet towel and dryer to pre-shrink mine thanks to an exert from Tilly and the Buttons "Top 10 tips for sewing a wool cot" blog post. I pasted a section below
"For wool coatings and wool blends, there are a few different schools of thoughts here but you don't generally need to wash wool fabric before sewing. It is however a good idea to pre-shrink wool coating before cutting into it. One way of doing this is to take it to the dry cleaners to get them to do it for you, but you can also do this easily at home.
The easiest way to pre-shrink wool is to chuck it in the tumble dryer with a couple of damp towels. Wring out the towels so they're damp rather than sopping wet, put in the tumble dryer and remove when the towels are dry.
If you don't have a tumble dryer you can also shrink your wool with an iron and a muslin press cloth or cotton tea towel. Wet the cloth and wring out the excess moisture, then place the cloth on the wool and press until the muslin is dry. Do this as many times as necessary until you've pressed all the fabric."

Your face when you pulled out the sequinned fabric 😂 It obviously brings you so much joy 😍 Love the blazer fabric, it’s going to be gorgeous. My husband and I have been so ill the past two weeks. Send me to the Stitch Festival please, please, please! I've never been and was going to buy tickets this year as I'm off work sick at the moment for stress... I would normally work weekends
I saw Ruan's video and the top looks great. I just bought some sequin fabric, but... I was blinded by the bling! It's got a zodiac design where I just saw the stars and planets, so I thinking of making something similar. I'll have a ton left as it was a really good price and I'll have to think of what else to make out of the 5 yards of end of roll fabric they tempt you to buy looool

Also, about pre shrinking wool - I made a wool coat and had the same problem of not knowing what to do….. Loving this video. I am with lindamahmood9829, I think the blazer will look more classic with a solid lining. That Lady McIlroy is just too beautiful to be hidden away. I do love that Cashmerette blazer pattern you have chosen.
Also you said you may have purchased a bit more than required (note I do not say needed😅), would your daughter (I am pretty sure you have a daughter) like something sequiny - is that a word? It could be a lovely mother/daughter look. But not too matchy, perhaps a short skirt for her?
Again I have to say how much I love your hair. I would kill to have hair like yours.
