Yes, you top up your lead acid batteries with de-ionised water to prevent them from being contaminated by the ions present in tap water.

Blood did cross my mind, need about half a pint to make a reasonable sized battery. Know anybody who wouldn't miss a little 🤣 Of course there are other bodily fluids too 💩. Then of course there are ideas like putting a slug between the two plates. On a slightly more politically correct line, I have just tried a couple of metal objects that were laying around, like aluminium and Nichrome. Neither worked, but it was worth a try. The aluminium did work briefly although that might have been because of the other residue already in the container.

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan Slug between two plates. 🤣🤣🤣 They don't like the salt so they may have very few free ions. I would stick a couple of spoons of table salt between the plates also. That would perk them up and help with the electrical flow. The slug protection crowd will be after us. 🤔😁

@@mikeflight9 slugs don't like copper anyway 🐌🐌(although that may be an urban myth - a Google search comes up with contradictory results).

The most surprising thing is how well my solar snowman is running on tap water. I had to get the de-ionised water as a comparison, to check what was going on.

I don't think for one minute that they would sell you laboratory grade purity in a supermarket just for putting in your household items. Certainly not without asking you to pay a premium. @@GrandadIsAnOldMan Yes. looks like there are three grades. You couldn't have any free ions thwarting a delicate chemical process.

A better fix will be to modify it to take a modern lithium ion battery pack. I will probably get round to it eventually 😁

For the axles I am using bicycle spokes which are 2mm in diameter. When you say "didn't work", what exactly do you mean? What didn't work? The print tolerances on a 3D printer could make the holes too tight or too loose. If they are too tight you can put a suitable length of the wire in an electric drill and drill through the holes using the wire as a drill bit. If they are too loose, you can roughen the surface of the wire using wire cutters to put little tooth marks in it. That makes it a little wider. Super glue could be added too.

I am using a 16 gauge wire (probably 1.2mm) and it fits in but it is too thin and it doesn’t turn

16 gauge is 1.6mm. Bicycle spokes are normally 2mm which is 14 gauge. Putting tape round the wire is unlikely to help as it will get pushed off as you try to slide the wire in place. Another option would be to put a coating of solder on the wire. That would thicken it. You could squeeze hot glue into the holes then push the wire through. That might work.

It did the job, but I might convert the strimmer to take one of my LiIon batteries anyway.

You could try spraying something like WD40 onto them to try to dissolve any crystals that have formed.

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan I'm giving that a go now. It's still real difficult for me to pry them out. I just broke the thicker end of a dental hook trying to remove one. Just have to wait longer or apply more I guess.

Haha, nothing is free. The copper for the copper electrode and the magnesium for the magnesium electrode had to be mined, purified, shaped and transported. Our water comes from a reservoir that had to be built to serve the city. The pumping stations installed, the pipes laid. Etc Etc.

Nikolai Tesla wanted us all to have free energy, that's why they pushed him out so Eddison could charge us all for it and made him go mad until his demise, they probably poisoned him slowly, but yeah it's all around us above us and beneath us.

The external tank is just a blatant fiddle to get around the UK regulations 😕 I have noticed a marked reduction in the number of people I see vaping, so I am guessing the "bubble" has burst.

I expect the next generation will start smoking again on the basis that all the evidence against smoking is fake news, and everybody had lied to them.

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan Yeah, have seen 'flavoured air' vapes in adverts recently, rather than being tobacco substitutes. Got no idea of the point of them.

What you don't get is any visibility of what you are filming, so you have to judge the camera angle. Rotating the camera horizontally will bring the wheels into view. If you want to run beside what you want to film, you would need to position the camera outside of the wheels or forward of them. I have fitted arms to my cars to hold a camera in position to get interesting shots. That keeps the camera steady relative to the car.

The general idea is to get some close-up shots of my rubber band cars while they are running.

After a bit of digging, it would appear that the "Dirty Weather Blues Revue" is a local band and the car is there as an advert for them. They might be playing locally. They have a CZcams channel with 1 subscriber www.youtube.com/@DirtyWeatherBluesRevue The channel was created February this year. I might subscribe to double their numbers 🤣

You might have seen some of my RC car videos where they tow a trailer with a camera on it for this sort of viewing angle. This will probably be used for chasing my rubber band powered cars (or similar) to get a similar view.

When we were in America in the 60s my dad bought a Ford Fairlane Galaxie 500 and us boys were impressed that we could lay out across the boot. Our previous car was a Ford Prefect Popular that would probably fit in that boot with us 🤣🤣. When we returned to the UK mum insisted we couldn't go back to a small car so we had a Ford Zephyr which happened to have the tail fins like the Galaxy, but still significantly smaller by comparison.
