The materials used in the anode and cathode set the voltage, the electrolyte and surface area set the current. Carbon and Magnesium are about as good as you can get. Here is the Galvanic table - the voltage you get from your battery is the difference between the two numbers shown for the materials - graphite (carbon) 0.2 - Magnesium -1.6, so the voltage could be as much as -1.8v en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvani...

Hey man, I was lucky to suddenly stumble across this channel. I used to watch the channel using my dad's phone back when I was a kid about 12/13 years old. Always loved making toys watching your video. Suddenly a video of you appeared into my feed and it flooded me with all the childhood memories I have with this channel.I do not know if you read comments or not but you are kinda like a superhero to me. I'm 21 now and I have learnt electronics and loved them to a point that I'm studying engineering now and you are probably the reason behind it. Thank you for everything. Stay blessed grandpa.

That is great news, I hope you do well. Thank you for dropping by 😁😁

The problem is that you need two extra ingredients, Vodka and Lemonade.

    Nice.😀.

It's supposed to be two different reactions... from memory.
A reduction reaction. and another one I can't recall.
School science class was a lifetime ago.

1.8V is very strong, great result from the idea. I wonder if the 'settling' time increased the potency.
Turns out that my wife has already thumbed this video up btw. She often can't sleep and uses the PC to watch vids, including yours now it seems 😀

Yes, she has doubled my viewing figures 😁👍 I put a shiny nail/screw in there last night instead of the zinc strip and when I looked this morning the shiny coating had been stripped off. Makes you wonder what that lime juice would have done to our insides 🤣

I read your comment below about electrode corrosion. Would water-lemon mix (say 1:1 to start) give similar voltage with less corrosion? Also, I wonder about other acidic foods -- like vinegar. Anyway, I enjoyed your update, as always.

Yes, you can use a weaker mix to reduce the corrosion, but it is only a matter of time. It will corrode eventually, that is part of the chemical reaction. The materials used in the anode and cathode set the voltage, the electrolyte and surface area set the current. Carbon and Magnesium are about as good as you can get. Here is the Galvanic table - the voltage you get from your battery is the difference between the two numbers shown for the materials - graphite (carbon) +0.2 - Magnesium -1.6, so the voltage could be as much as -1.8v en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_series

Excellent results with the lime juice! could run something that takes a double A with that, right?

The only problem is that it is so acidic that it eats the magnesium in a matter of hours. I changed it to zinc hoping for a less reactive mix, but it still only lasts a few days before it has been eaten through. Today I swapped the zinc strip for a large screw. I am not sure what metal it is, probably zinc coated. We will see if it is still there in the morning 🤣
