Electrolytes are, in my opinion, one the most important things to always take on a hike. Exertion, or hot days drain you massively and having an electrolyte sachet/tablet to put into your water is really important.
is there is any raincover with this bag or we have to buy it seprate ??
There is no included rain cover with the Deuter Speed Lite 25, it's one you would have to buy separately.
I would add a whistle, head torch and rain coat.
Great choices 👍
Waterproofs, this is the UK 😅 and an emergency shelter or foil bivvy bag/blanket at the very minimum.
Leaving the house to head to the shops without waterproofs seems to be a risky move with our "summer" this year. A foil blanket/bivvy is a great addition.
over the years i've found i have more than five... but if i had to boil it down... 1. emergency kit: both store-bought (mentioned here) and homemade/specific, inside a rectangular packing cube, mostly for wounds and scrapes. sits at bottom of pack for quick access at zipper. 2. snack bag with way more than you need--we pack it, but don't often need it since most-loved snacks are in the slash pocket in the hood. 3. medium dry bag with three towels: small, medium and large - large is a yoga towel for quick dips and hammock insulation; medium is microfiber and holds up well mostly as a floor mat or drape-over on rough rocks; small is usually just a cotton wash cloth or a dish towel -- something to clean up with. 4. large dry bag that stores an insulating layer and an outer shell (rain coat) -- the mountains bring weather of all kinds, and the coasts can have equal swings, so it's best to be prepared unless you don't mind being very uncomfortable when the weather suddenly changes around the corner where there is a lot of cold, strong wind. 5. compass (same one pictured here), but... they work best with maps, which we don't often have with us on hikes. seems like we should change that. water damage or a fall is all it takes to brick a phone. 6. bonus item: 3-legged REI stool, strapped to bottom of pack exterior - adds almost no weight, stabilizes the pack at rest, and super useful for wet ground unpacking or in snow, putting on/off shoes, or resting in areas that don't have a lot of options (dry or otherwise).
All of those sound like solid choices to be carrying. Adding a map of the area you're hiking in would definitely be a useful addition, especially as you're already carrying the compass. Our list was far from extensive, if we'd added everything it would be a longer video for sure but you've made some great choices that we would also recommend 👍
What does the back look like?
Unfortunately the Skogso Padded Jacket is no longer available in the women's fit. From memory, the back is a single colour, same as the front of the jacket with a stitch-line running across the shoulders, but other than that the back is clean and free of any branding.
Excellent advice, plus great to see you on CZcams not 30 seconds on instagram
Snacks and a bottle of water and rain jacket are a must
Wouldn't head out on the trails without them.
I have a combination first aid kit and possibles pouch that's developed over the years. Everything in one place. Also usually have a very British brew kit, if you are "directionally challenged" or need to reassess your decisions, a full stop, ten minutes thinking time and some caffiene can work wonders.
A tactical brew stop is always a good shout out on the hills. You haven't lost your bearings, simply taking a break...
Thank you Tom Selleck
🥸
British summer, waterproofs are a must
Can you let us know when the summer arrives? We've heard rumours it might make an appearance but don't want to scare it away...
Water bottle and a rain jacket are my non-negotiables. Even if I'm only planning to go for an hour (that can turn into 3+ hours if it's a nice day!)
Great choices, with our weather a rain jacket is bound to be useful and proper hydration is key.
Would probably add in a head torch
Great shout. Our list is far from extensive, if we included everything the list would get pretty long, but a headtorch would absolutely be on it. Ben's personal first aid kit also always contains an emergency head torch that runs on button cell batteries as a just in case.
Nice 👍🏻
GREAT VIDEO!! how tall are you? its for reference..
Thank you. Ben is 6'3" (191cm), which as we just found out is also roughly the height of your average white rhino. We hope this entirely serious comment has been helpful.
Hi, does this have a drawstring in the waist?
Hi there. The Greenland Jacket does not have an adjustable bottom hem, not many of their winter jackets seem to feature bottom hem adjustment.
@@trekitt Thanks guys. Love your stuff, keep up the good work.
Hiya I stupidly removed the airframe as I had an issue with the bag size at the airport. Had this bag for years but now I can’t get that thing back in. Any tips?
Sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare there! When you say you've removed the airframe, was that via the reversed zip on the inside of the bag? Frustratingly, there's no easy way to get it back in and just requires lots of wrangling and a bit of luck to get it in just right. Sorry we can't be more help, but good luck getting it back in! If you don't succeed, we know a great place you can find a replacement...
No mention of turning your jacket inside out. This will help reduce wear to the outside in the wash and dry cycles
I'd like to know what do you guys think about this "3 season" sleeping system for a few backpacking trips around Europe, from May through September / October: - Wild Country Helm Compact 1 or MSR Elixir 1 (tent). In my opinion I think that 'Helm Compact 1 will be a better choice; - Hennessy Hammock or Warbonnet Outdoors (hammock); - Big Agnes Rapide SL Insulated (sleeping pad, R-Value: 4.8); - Kelty Cosmic Down 20 (sleeping bag, 20°F / -7°C, 2024 model); - a very cheap blanket, like Kelty Bestie; - a cheap pillow, like Cocoon Air-Core, I don't really think that matters which one); - AquaQuest (tarp, 5000 mm, 40D nylon or 70D nylon, 3 x 3 m or 4 x 3 m].
Looks like a pretty comprehensive setup. We'd probably agree that the Helm has the edge, just in case of poor weather, that all-in-one pitching will be a benefit. Depending on where you're heading we can see the advantages of having the hammock setup as an option instead of the tent, bit of prior route research to see which would suit the environment best and you'll have a great time. Where are you hoping to explore in Europe?
My main goals for Europe are Turkey (even if the nearly all of the country is in Asia), Italy, France, Germany, Russia (despite challenges in recent years traveling to Russia remains feasible and optimistic), Poland, Norway (incl. Svalbard)), United Kingdom (incl. Isle of Skye), Ireland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Azores and Madeira. I'm thinking to 2 or 3 bikepacking trips also, one around Norway, one from Germany / France to Turkey, through Italy and Balkans and another one around United Kingdom, but I'm not really sure about the last one. However, I'm planning to go up in the mountains also, without venturing too far, nothing crazy, because I'm a beach person mostly. Whatever will be, will be, I'm not in a hurry... I'll take it easy...
@@octaviantanasehere Sounds like you're planning on ticking off quite a lot! We're only a little bit jealous.
😅 Thank you so much for your assistance guys! 🚵🥾🏕️
Dunno if this is still monitored, but is that the olive colour or black? Ive seen some videos where the olive has brighter green side pockets, this one looks nice and drab.
We feature the Olive/Deep Forest colour in the video.
It's not long enough
Ben Does have quite a long torso, but if you've already tried the Vardag Anorak in person and not found the length to be suitable, that's fair enough. The back length is measured by Fjallraven as 79cm, both the Singi-X Anorak (86cm) and the Anorak No.8 (88cm) have longer back lengths, maybe one of those is more suitable for your needs .
Nice outfit
Wonderful! Very cler explanations!
Contragrip is not grippy on wet rock.
I do sweat easily. Would you recommend the airscape system or a pack where you have space between your back and your backpack?
A sprung back system will offer more ventilation compared to Airscape. If you're after a similar pack from Osprey it may be worth considering the Sirrus, similar features to the Tempest, but with an AirSpeed™ Ventilated Trampoline Suspended back system.
me gusta, deseo comprar
This is the perfect day hike backpack now! 😍
tukune nang endi kue jakate regane sepira ya
Excellent stove, ok its twice as expensive as the Chinese ebay jobs but it won't let you down and its made in the EU, been using it for a year and its great👍
Can the waistbelt be removed or tucked away?
Hi there. The Hip belt is stitched on, so cannot be removed. You could reverse the hit belt and clip it in on the front of the pack to keep it out of the way, but in practice that might not hold unless the pack is full.
I really like my KAJKA 65, it's designed to carry heavy loads, which is what I was looking for - it doesn't carry like it's heavy, whereas my Osprey couldn't handle the loads - 50 to 65 lbs. I'm small framed, 65 yrs old, and need my pack to support the weight, not my body. I only wish the hip belt could be smaller as I've tightened it as much as possible. A foam and inflatable hip belt (like Thermarest trail lite sleeping mat) would bring additional comfort and fit - yes, I'd pay additional for it as I consider my gear an investment. Safe travels and joyful memories 💖
May I ask what height you are and what size you got (S/M or M/L)?
@johanneswilhelm10 yes, I am 5'3 and purchased the small/med
What an excellent video again. You guys rock. Looking for a new pack to do a 55km, 34miles, on flat surface this summer. Do you think this will be comfortable enough?
Thanks! The Speed Lite 25 should be up to task, or for something a little more supportive you could also look at the Deuter Trail 25, a slightly more fully featured pack. Good luck on the trail! trekitt.co.uk/rucksacks/outdoor-rucksacks/deuter-trail-25-black__49305
@@trekitt any thoughts on the futura 23 or 27? I like the ventilation it offers and it has all the features you could wish. The weight not that much of an issue. I prefer comfort over weight most of the times.
@@wouterrombouts9347 Whilst we don't stock the Futura, it does look very similar to the older model which we were very fond of. Always found it to be comfortable and supportive. Deuter's Aircomfort back system has always proven to be a good choice for carry when breathability and comfort are a priority.
Hi. Can you do a review on the rab xenon 2.0 jacket? Thanks
Hi. Unfortunately the Rab Xenon is a jacket we no longer stock, and from the looks of it, is no longer a current season product from Rab. If you can still find one for sale it is a great synthetic jacket, ideal for cold wet days where you need a warm layer that will still work even when wet. The closest equivalent we now stock from Rab (in a similar weight of insulation) is the Xenair Alpine Light. trekitt.co.uk/outdoor-jackets/insulated-jackets/rab-mens-xenair-alpine-light-jacket-ebony-marmalade__56360 Or we do still stock the Xenon 2.0's bigger sibling, the Generator Alpine, but that is much more insulated and designed for use in colder conditions. trekitt.co.uk/outdoor-jackets/insulated-jackets/rab-mens-generator-alpine-jacket-marmalade__47469
easier in DMS boots and putties
We better have a re-do then. Got a spare pair you can dust off for us?
Great Review! Thanks
Good review, thank you.
I've just hit 4.5 years on this jacket and it's still going strong. Gave it away to my mate so I can upgrade to a Patagonia. Well done Trekkit, it was such a wonderful investment.
Works great with wood pellets. I have 3 that are about 5 years old and work awesome when i dont want to use propane or electricity.
So uncomfortable boots I expected much more from this IKSystem. My feet wanted to get out of these boots after 10 mile. Had pain underneath my foot and on top. The sizing is spot on but idk .... It is waterproof Ive tested them and the grip is great . I have them from 2 months but I have 5 day hike I had to buy other shoes. For summer idk .. maybe in a very rocky terrain yes. i will see i will try to wear them somewhere. I like the shoes but i really wished they were more comfortable
Great video Paul. I will say that loose blown synthetic insulation such as Thermoplume is great up until the point of washing. It is impossible to wash and dry without clumping even if following recommended procedures.
What i take from this new upgrade is same bag with different side pockets a 1 extra piece of velcro on lombar adjustments. Completely worth 500 euros xD
It is pronounced Boss Ig Ran an. Not bossygran.
Nice review! Is it good as an emergency jacket to keep in your backpack in case of unexpected events? What is the minimum temperature that allows you to stay warm in static conditions?
The Cirrus Alpine would work as that emergency warm layer in your pack and has the advantage of being synthetic, so will keep you warm even if it gets wet. Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer on a minimum temperature as that will vary based on the individual in question, the overall conditions and their other clothing. A relatively safe bet would be in the low single figures assuming you are wearing a good set of base layers and a fleece or synthetic midlayer. You could further improve its performance by popping a waterproof shell over the top to make it fully wind and waterproof, consequently retaining more heat.
Nice one Ben. I am not a climber (don't do exposed heights like tat!) but get my thrills from watching others..lol
Thank you, it was a rather enjoyable day out for all involved. The exposure with climbing certainly isn't for everybody, good job there's still plenty to see and get to by walking in. Bosigran is a beautiful place to visit regardless of whether you choose to climb or not, highly recommended visiting for the views!
Not at that price no chance
Yes walking poles work, but this video, like many others, shows how not to walk with them. He isn't using them correctly. You use them as you normally walk without poles. The left foot goes forward, with the right pole. When you walk naturally, the opposite arm goes with the opposite leg . This is how poles are suppose to be used.
Thank you!
Hi! How does the color fog hold up? I know the black shows the wax scratches and lint, and the ochre is always getting dirty. Iv read in Reddit that the fog is good but haven’t been able to find any review proof of that over time. What do you think?
We can only provide anecdotal feedback for Fog, it does seem to hold up better compared to the other lighter colours, but most of the Kanken range will age and patina through use due to the nature of the fabric. If you want to keep a Kanken looking pristine it will require some maintenance.
Based on this review I bought the Fjallraven Vardag but I directly send them back! They were not strechy at all, more a stiff trouser like a tight jeans. Moving around felt I was in a harness. So not my choice this trousers
Memory foam in boots is an awful idea in my opinion
We've found memory foam to be a great comfort addition to certain boots, but we can appreciate it is not for everyone, hopefully we have enough options with and without memory foam to keep everyone happy with their boot options. Out of curiosity, what is it about memory foam in boots you're not a fan of?
