The city of Trotwood had planned to develop the old Salem Mall site for nearly 10 years up until the Sears closure into an open-air shopping center called "The Landmark". But the plans for The Landmark fell through and the plans changed after Sears left to turn the mall site into the Technology Business Park which is an industrial park. The Landmark's plans go back as far as 2003 to be developed and the Technology Business Park was planned starting in 2014.

Many stores left Trotwood in the 2010s, In 2012, Best Buy left Trotwood, then Kmart left in 2013, and then Sears and Target left in 2014. The Target is now a storage facility. There has been a petition by Trotwood residents to try to save the Target, but the online petition wasn't enough to save the Target and Target left on May 3, 2014.

I worked at Eckerd in the photo lab for 6-7 years. The JCPENNEY buyout was a disaster. That was a big problem and started to bring things down. All said, I loved working there for the most part. One of my favorite jobs.

What if I were to tell you the original plans was for Southpark to be in Petersburg. The area that Walmart is in now. Yeah that was the original plan but Petersburg didn’t want to hand over the tax breaks. If that had came true Colonial Heights would still be a sleepy little town and Petersburg would be booming. What if I told you that it goes back decades before that. Busch Gardens (and Anheiser Busch) at the time wanted the brewery and theme park to be built on Lake Chesdin in Dinwiddie (instead of Williamsburg/James City County). Petersburg at the time said no to connecting them to the water system. Two times Petersburg has shot themselves in the foot.

In the show young Sheldon, which was a spinoff to the show the Big Bang theory this restaurant was featured in the show many times because it took place in the early 90s and there’s been scenes where the family went out to dinner at Chichis and in one episode the character, George jr went on a date with his girlfriend at Chi Chi’s and their waitress happened to be his former crush from high school

The store Gottahalks ended up closing in 2008 due to bankruptcy I believe around the same time the location at the nearby East Hills mall ended up closing their location as well also due to bankruptcy

I remember going there as a teenager in '76 but when Quail Springs opened i didn't go because Quail was half as far. Last I heard of Okc schools rent part of the east side and moved Sante Fe South there because it gave them more space.

I worked at Avondale Mall during the years of approximately 1991-1992 at The Chicken Place. It was owned my Mama and Papa, they had a daughter Edna and their daughter in law had a Gyro shop next door. The family was from Isreal.. I often wonder what happened to this family. I aslo worked at the Manhatter store in Avondale Mall...

I lived across the street of the Rivers Road mall. I remember walking home from Northview Elementary School in the snow!! My favorite store was J.C Penny they had soda flavored lip gloss!!❤❤😂😂

Born and raised in hampton i was always at the mall. It really hurt to see it go.

I remember going to JCPenney's at Walnut Mall in the late '60s with my grandmother. She did indeed used to get dressed up to go there! I also remember going to the theater to see my very first movie w/ my older brother The movie was called "your's mine and ours" with Lucille Ball and Bob Hope. I was 5 years old.

I was a store manager at Cloverleaf the night the murders happened. I remember leaving my store, Topkapi (Claire’s Boutique). My store was on one end of the mall and a jewelry store was between us, who was cleaning the carpet. As I was leaving, I noticed the dollar store on the left of me still had the gate 1/4 of the way open with the lights on. You couldn’t hear anything bcz the carpet cleaner was loud. My 3rd key person was related to the one of the victims and we all used to go there all the time. I def think the killer knew the victim but I don’t think both were intended.

great video! i miss this place how i go through sears to access the mall and going to Cash-in Culture and New Dimension Comics and others back in 2013 ! it is a shame that Moonbeam doesn't know how to take care of malls they own like this one its honestly the best mall on the planet! once again i enjoyed this!

Salem Mall was the first mall in this area of Dayton. The only other mall was the Richmond Square Mall in near by Richmond IN. A few years later the Dayton Mall was built in south Dayton near Miami shirt and Centerville. The Salem Mall was quite unique with an awesome main entrance and several unique craft stores. A few years later a food court was added. Too bad nothing was done to keep the Dayton area gangs from domination the location.

Don't ever recall Coliseum Mall as "dead" or "abandoned" or necessarily "unsafe." I always understood it as the mall was "aging" and Hampton wanted to emulate Newport News' Oyster Point and the small towne center feel. Compared to Newmarket North, which had been dead since the early 90's, Coliseum was older and doing relatively well, at least from this shopper's viewpoint.

This guy got dead-brain shit take. And it doesn't even correlate to reality. In comparison, Prestonwood Mall had a much more cleaner atmosphere in comparison to other malls, especially Valley View Mall which was dark and gloomy. Aside from aesthetics, it had an excellent design where everything was accessible and had way more stores to offer. It only went down due to bad decisions made and sudden cultural change in the early 2000s.

The seafood restaurant was Fass Brothers, which became Family Fish House. I ate there a few times with family members who lived in Hopewell. It was an AYCE place. It was really good!

The ussues with Salem Mall go back to the mid 1970. Sslem Mall the areaa first mall ioened in 1966 fillerd by Dayton Mall in 1969. Trotwood was originally planned to be larger in dcake however it was fully built out fron the plans laid out in the 1950s when it became a city. Trotwood, Clayton abd Brookville has there own bus system. In rhe mid 1970s RTA the city bus system wsnted to run a route from downtown Dsyton to Salem Mall. It was being blocked by both the Clayton Trotwood Brookville bus system and the Salem Mall. However after nunerous lawsuits it was aproved and by 1977 RTA had a bus goibg to Salem Mall. Just s few years later Dayton Metro Housing put multiple low income housing apart6 around Salen Mall. By 1987 the Sslem Mall was accoring to Rouse Management is rapid decline. Bad press did not help. A security guard was arrested for setting 3 fires in dumpsters in a week span . A mother killed her toddler and said he was stolen from the restroom at Salem Mall. Only days later she admitted his body was in the dumpster at her apartment building.. Gangs and teen overran the mall into chos. Sslem Mall Cibenas closed in June 1996 with Mission Impossible in theatre 3 and The Rock in theatre 4. Theatres 1 & 4 were closed days before with The Truth About Cats Abd Dogs . Spy Hard was in theatee 4. Many report JC Penny & Lazarus closed in 1997b, but it was 1996 as I was there. 2 achors abd the movie thestre wall left in 1996. The food court actually was big just over a dozen eateries. Hollywood Deli, Popcorn Paizzaz, Great American Cookie Co., Chick A Flia, Mark Pi's, Sabbario, Arby's, Mc Dondolad's, Great Steak & Potato Co , Taco Bell, Baskin Robins were some of the food court eateries. Of course those were long gone. Mart Ann's Kitchen was the only eatery left when the mall covered the fiod court. Mary Ann's was in the firmer Taco Bell. She would move to the former MCL Cafeteria so the food court could be closed off. Rikes was never closed, it was purchsed by Lazarus and simply changed names. Salem Mall Cinemas after a $500,000 renovation reopened in 1999. It was seen as hope to save the mall. The Salem Mall has advertised rebranding as Renaissance Plaza. However Trootwood treatened a lawsuit to the owners because the city paid for a new marquee for the Salem Mall known as the leaf. The Salem Mall Cinemas did nothibg to help the mall. Salem Mall Cinemas had a riot where the libby was trashed, a singal 9 county wide was called when someone shot the rear window out of a Trotwood cruiser. Over 200 prople where the parking lot rioting. More befan to stirm the stores srealing what the could. Englewood, Clayton, Dayton, Montgomery County, Kefferson Township, OSP, Brookville and 5 River Metri Parks were among the 63 police vehicles on scene plus a dozen Trotwood police cruisers. Later the cinemas closed for a day by the health department for rodent infestation. And the cinema manager was arrested for a relationship with s minor he meet in the theatre. Since the closing Trotwood has continued to be in a state if urban decay.
