    Can I ask please what grit sand paper do you use on your strop to keep your knife's sharp? and do you need to wet it?

    Batoning is SO overused. If you are spending so much time batoning, you need different tools other than knives.

    The Bravo 1 is my favorite. It’s convex grind and takes some getting used to but it’s great for batoning. It just blows the chunks apart. Feather sticks well but takes some practice to get used to the convex. The knife you show are great but too small for me.

    It's a nice knife, but I've learned not to get knives with jimping cuts. Their magnacut knife broke and the weak point started at the jimping cut. Jimping it's stupid. it's like starting a crack and weak point in your knife steel.

    Good rundown of these models, thanks. I’m not the biggest fan of black knives /guns either, but Bark River’s black Micarta is really a nice dark brown, and I can more than live with it.

  • @mikegreen2214
    @mikegreen2214 Před rokem

    Cutting your sharpening time by two-thirds means that you’re dulling the blade two-thirds faster. I’ll take 3V, please.

  • @stevanoutdoor
    @stevanoutdoor Před rokem

    I agree on points. But I think the Garberg is overpriced and not good at slicing food. We don't call it a full tang here but a protruding stick tang. The Clipper is different from the Companion since the Clipper has a much shorter but broader stick tang. The steel on the Garberg is 14C28N. The steel on the Garberg is 3,2mm, same as on the Companion HD and even the Mora Robust. The difference is in the spine. So I guess 50 dollar would be a reasonable price for this plastic handle knife but they are 75 dollar. For that price I can get a Joker knife, even in the same steel, with nice micarta or wooden handle and a thick leather dangler sheath even with matching fire steel. So there are options available and you get more quality for the same price.

    Hey brother, so you know the BRK Bushcrafter knife. It has a skandivex grind. Now tell me how you TRULY sharpen a convex skandi grind. It is not possible. I'll stick to my flat Skandi. Tell me.differently that you can magically sharpen a convex skandi in CPM3v. No way you are sharpening it effectively.

    Wow nice. My only bark river knife is a Bravo 1.25 lt 3v. It's still sharp but I have been hesitant to resharpen it on my wicked edge cause I don't want to change the grind on it. Just been stropping it. I believe bark river will sharpen it for free but I also feel thats kind of silly when I have a high end knife sharpener & I would have to send it in. Opinions?

    • @daveyboy6985
      @daveyboy6985 Před rokem

      If your wicked edge can't sharpen convex blades , I wouldn't attempt it. Convex edges are an acquired skill to sharpen ( free hand)

    I was very interested in this knife , but that handle variation of thickness throws me off. It's not an inexpensive knife , and I want to be sure I get a thicker handle. So it is kind of a crap-shoot what I'm gonna get. Thanks for the good review on these!

    Many people in the comments are puzzled at the hardness review. I haven't got these but have seen a couple other reviewers who found that in this particular knives, the stainless is harder than the carbon and retains its edge better. I'm just getting into this recently and am getting the stainless because my area is humid and the amount of effort to maintain a carbon steel knife would be annoying.
