    My first bushcraft knife was a mora Garberg multimount, 2nd was an Eldris, 3rd Condor bushlore, 4th Boker plus Mears clone and recently the mora Woodcarving Basic. Also a Grohmann army scandi and a #1 flat grind. I use a Ka-Bar Reinhardt kukri instead of an axe and I have a folding reciprocating saw blade handle because those blades are easy to replace and range from metal to tree cutting blades. 40+ years doing carpentry etc.

    I've only found swiss army knives useful as a household tool rather than in the field. My most used cutting tool is hand held pruning shear. Fiskars 7/8" bypass to be more specific. I use it in place of a machete. It allows you to cut a hole through the most dense foliage with surgical precision. Low energy, low danger, just lots of little well place snips. It will not only cut through wood limbs under 3/4" thickness, but I also use it to amputate animal feet and heads during the butchering and skinning process and preserve my knife blade.

    Only thing I'd change is the farmer with the older style leatherman wave, More tools plus 2 blades. If you prefer a swiss army knife go for the huntsman, has the saw as well as scissors and a can opener and a couple of others. subscribed.

    • @TheAnonymousSword
      @TheAnonymousSword Před 4 lety

      Yeah, the huntsman is one of those tools that I'd definetly miss out there, for I use that for everything from gardening, cooking and opening packages to all the small tasks that you need to do but don't have a specialized tool at hand.

    People say, that Bushcraft Black, works better than the Garberg. Also, I have found, that both the Victorinox 111mm Rucksack and the Harvester (Swiss Army 7) works better than the Farmer for bushcraft!

    I love my Garberg its my edc now, i couldn't agree more, it glides through wood and doesn't have the "must eat wood" resistance like the Bushcraft black has. The reason I choose it over my other Mora's is the weight and balance, it cuts through the branch knots way better, the lighter weight knives have to be forced through them. I've also noticed the handle gets a slightly softer feel to it, I'm a total fan and super happy that I bought one, can't recommend it more to folks. I did remove the 90° spine from the first half cause it was killing my thumb when carving, now ya got me thinking about getting another one with the multimount LOL.

    • @HighCountryHang
      @HighCountryHang  Před 7 lety +1

      It really is a great knife. I have both sheaths and I like both equally however the leather looks a lot nicer lol.

      HighCountryHang I know you have talked about having a ton of knives, do you happen to own the Battle Horse Feather Stick? I have considered saving up or selling stuff LOL to get one but not sure yet. There isn't that much reviews out there, it seems like a great design for carving.

    But yeah, You use a similar carry to what I carry, Yeah, I have a SAK Farmer as we'll as the Vic Rangergrip 78 and other picket knives, Although one of my Fav. Belt Knives for that type of carry are my Rodent 5, or my Bravo 1 plus a few other like my Buscrafter #162,etc. my Hatchet is my 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor because it's compact with a kick, I bought a axe hilster to carry it from a CZcamsr, You could find him just search axe holstrr. and my saw, my Fav. the Wickrd Tough Saw although I like my Bacho Laplander, my Wooden handle Fiskar olus others like my Silky. Yeah, very similar carries, You done good.,,.

    Hey great video I just subscribed because you were right about what you said about that mora garberg and you're right you don't need a super expensive knife to be in the woods. I went thru a bunch of knives only to come back to Mora.

      @HighCountryHang  Před 6 lety

      Axe Junkie AL thank you for watching. I went out today and carried nothing but a mora, I left $700 worth of knives in my truck to take a $10 mora out, and guess what? I didn't die lol. Thanks again and have a good one.

    1) Victorinox Farmer
    2) Homemade blade (similar to Bark River Aurora)
    3) Corona Folding Saw
    4) Cold Steel Trailhaw.
    We think alike.

    Always enjoyed your vid. It has been 3 years since u posted this vid. Regarding the axe or hatchet, can tell now what is your fav one? I’m pondering which one to get between gab small forest axe and gb outdoor axe. Can give some latest advice? Thx! And your fav knife nowadays remains br ultra lite bushcrafter?

    Great vid great kit too! I thought for sure you were going to whip out the ultra light bc haha. Garberg a much better choice imo. Id possibly go as small as BR Gunny but smaller than that is just too tiny imo.

    Good list. I'd like to swap out the Bahco for a Silky of comparable size (maybe a gomboy 240). Thought about a different SAK, maybe a camper, huntsman, or one handed hunter xt, but the farmer is the best minimalist option. Couldn't really complain about your set up though.

    I live in the same area as you, and my list would look very similar to yours. Mine would probably be
    1. SAK (rotate between farmer and Rangergrip 78)
    2. 4" belt knife (probably my benchmade bushcrafter or LTWK GNS)
    3. Bahco Laplander
    4. Gransfors bruks small forest axe

    Say Heah, I'll trade you a Mora Garberg for your Skookum Bush Tool, First of all, Is it the Real thing or is it a copy. Because I have one in 3V and mine is Simply TiT's, Aces. don't get me wrong. I held off on the Garberg for a Cold Steel 3V Master Hunter. I was going to and who know I still might. But I bought (3V Master Hunter) it to cover all my bases when I use my Fox Bushcraft Parang., a couple of weeks ago we went on a snowy weekend trip and all I did was used a Vic. Rangergrip 78 to back my Fox Bushcraft Parang. But seriously, The Skookum Bush Tool is a awesome Bushcraft knife. How long did you wait to get yours, I sort of don't buy the story, There's a long waiting list to buy one. your kind of young waiting a couple of years for yours then saying your Garberg is better. Man, like I said, I have one in 3V and mine Rocks, Infact I just teamed my A-1 with the H-1 because it's so similar to the shape of my Skookum Bush Tool and that one, Yeah, my H-1 out pteforms my friends Garberg. He would trade his Garberg for my H-1 any day and twice in Sunday. No offence, Eventually I will buy a Garberg, But that continues curve on my Skookum Bush Tool and H-1 makes for a great Carver.,,.

    hi there. i have to admit your garberg video was the last drop to convince me to buy it. thanks. despite the 99euro price, i have no regrets, it has become my favourite knife instantly :) ..so, i placed it into my best four tools for bushcraft too, alongside bahco laplander (civil version without coating), fiskars x7 and leatherman wingman..
    btw, why did you get 2 garbergs? i mean, its reasonable with companions for the price but why not garberg and bushcraft black for example? just curious :).
    thanks for your videos,
    with best wishes

      Hello, thanks for your comment! The garbing is a fantastic knife. I purchase multiples of knives for different kits I have. I have two different areas in two different states so I leave stuff in one state at my parents house and the other stuff at my house. I also picked up a 2nd because it was crazy cheap that day on amazon for $50 shipped for the barbers with the leather sheath. I do have a bushcraft black that I really like and have used a ton I just never got around to making a video about it! I believe that I will do that soon!

      thank you for your respond. you´re right, your reasons make sense.. and of course, as for bushcraft black i would be glad to see your point of view. it´s one of my favourite knives too. but i have to mention i don´t trust the original sheath.
      cheers

    I think if you need a multi tool when bushcrafting, you’re doing it wrong.
    When I’m out in the woods, there is absolutely nothing that I would need screwdrivers, pliers, and tiny scissors for. None of my gear requires such tools. As far as I’m concerned that is useless weight. I’m out in the woods at least once every two weeks, and I’ve never said to myself “Man, I sure wish I had that tiny file on my multi tool!” or that tiny saw.
    Do yourself a favor and take a pad out with you and write down every time you legitimately need to use it. And after a year you’ll see that it’s worthless weight for bushcrafting.
    There are far better tools for bushcrafting. How about a whittling tool, or an auger.

    • @Simon-talks
      @Simon-talks Před 3 lety

      I agree completely. A multi-tool is for urban life. I do it all with my GB Outdoor hatchet and my Bark River Gunny Scandi. Occasionally bring a bucksaw
