  • I was out hiking and shot a very quick and dirty video covering the knife I consider to be the ideal fixed blade hiking knife. I purchased this Bark River from Kniveshipfree.

    I bought the BRKT Ultra Lite Bushcrafter a few months ago, and finally ground it to a flat Scandi this past weekend. Much sharper, and much easier to control for finer tasks. I wasn't able to chip the edge, so it's a winner.

      I agree, as I have sharpened mine it has become flatter and flatter. It cuts better and better.

    Many thankies for the review. I'm bettin my biscuit though that you are going to bring some kind of backup blade. Sweet little knife, and I do love Bark River's sheaths. Will definitely give this knife a look!

      No problem. I have had a lot of knife brands and I would have to say bark river has to be my favorite at this moment!

    nice little review on a very interesting knife, thanks! You should not go too far from your camera if you have no microphone, it makes your video sound a little cheap. just my opinon, I hope you don't take it as an offence! keep doing the good work! ;)

    Say Yeah, I never had a problem carrying a larger belt knife, Infact my Raymandu, Rodent 5, Bravo 1, O. K. C. Ranger T. F. I, even my BK-2 and Afghan in the 5160, Infact I even had my Bark River Attitude Modified and I did the dame with my Rodent 6 modified, I had it thinned down and took the top guard off, Ususallysmaller knives I like to team them up with my larger knivrs. I guess it all depends where we hike, I like to scout out area's, So if I run out of daylight, Yeah, I like my knives a little larger, But no question your Bark River in 3V is a Beaut. infact I just ordered myself a Adventure Swaorn Guide, I have it posted on Google Plus, just search Paulie 4X and tell me what you think, Oh, it's in 3V too. ,, .

    Hey there, thanks for your videos, find them super helpful. I just bought an Ultra lite bushcrafter a few months ago and am having difficulty with stropping it back to razor sharp...I have also heard from the famous CZcamsr Virtuovice that it may be because some of the Bark River 3V knives have a bit of a microbevel...So i guess my question is - do u have any problems with stropping up your 3V ULB? If not, what do you use to strop and do you feel yours has a microbevel?

    Awesome overview man, that is a perfect blade for your trek on the AT. Are you planning on knocking it out in sections or going straight thru?

    Making me nervous the way you're using the knife with beaver technique . One slip and you'll be in a bad way . When making feather sticks, notching etc .. hold knife in a fixed locked out position ( arm ) and move wood with other arm instead , much safer and actually uses less energy / effort . Nice review, i just ordered it .

    Just wandering how does this compare with your mora 2.0? i know it is in a different price bracket (10x ) . Will the mora2.0 do a good job on a budget ? also i have many Swiss army knives how will compare to a sak farmer for eg , tks for any input . another fab video

      Hey thanks for the comment. I will say 90% of the time I'm out I have just a mora classic on me. My favorite is the 2.0(the smallest one) as I find it to be the handiest one for my personal use. Honestly a mora will serve 99 percent of people just fine who do primitive skills. I love bark river as a high end knife maker however I am a realist and completely believe that a mora is a fantastic and completely viable tool. I will have to say that I use bark river knives when I'm feeling like having a nice things. Also when I hang around my bushcrafty elitist friend who look down their nose at any knife under $150. However the joke is on them because my carving skills are still better even with a $9 mora knife. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

    is it true scandy or scandyvex

    • @HighCountryHang
      @HighCountryHang  Před 7 lety +1

      A scandivex for sure, I wish it were a true scandi but at least is a scandivex and has no secondary bevel. SO I can deal with it,

      Thanks man, I remember seeing it on your featherstick video. That was one of the reasons I picked it up after seeing how well it performed, and it's a "scandi" bark river so I didn't think I could go wrong with them.
