  • This is the first Bark River knife to appear on Mantis Outdoors and honestly it blew me away. The Mini Aurora from Bark River Knives is a homerun, 3.675 inch bushcraft blade.

Actually CPM-3V is a very high end carbon steel. But it does have enough chromium in it to make it semi-stainless.

Will - I'm sorry for the double comment, but I just heard you say that CPM-3V is a 'lightweight premium stainless steel'. It's not a stainless steel, & though it's got more corrosion resistance than your average non-stainless, it's not stainless. But the thing that really gets my goat (please Will, return my goat, I only had the one) is that you are still under the false impression that stainless/high-alloy steels are 'lighter' than simple carbon steels. In reality, the opposite is true, though not by much. High-alloy steels are a bit heavier, not lighter, than carbon steels are. The reason you think this is that premium steels, like CPMs, are often utilized differently than carbon steels - the knife stocks tend to be thinner, & the grinds tend to be FFG or high sabers, while knifemakers tend to use beefier grinds when working with carbon steels - thus giving the illusion that carbon steels are 'heavier', when in fact, they are a bit lighter! Love you man!

Bark River cpm 3v holds an edge really well. Their Bravo 1; 1.25; 1.5, etc, have handles that are well shaped but I like much larger handles, especially on the Bravo 1.5. Get yourself a Kydex sheath from Country Prepper if you like Kydex, or make your own.

  • @thatguythatdoesstuff7448

Thanks for the actual usage review! By far the best on the net. Subscribed.
Sidenote, CPM 3V is not stainless, however, it's highly stain resistant. Fantastic steel that I think is the best of all worlds.

I generally like darker handle scales, especially on such a 'shiny' bladed knife - and the one you used in the video looks very good - but in this case I think the natural/blonde handle scales make the knife look even better.

Good to see how you care for international viewers. I would not expect that, I'm realistic and understand that it is not easy.
There was a guy from Africa that could not buy a Bark River, he made a post at Bark River facabook page, I tried to find him and tell him to post here.
Nice give away. Uow, a Bark River in CPM 3V.
Just be aware that it's not stainless. It does have some stain resistance, but does rust and goes up to pit corrosion, if in wet hot environment. Yes, I had that problem. Left it in the sheath, it was humid. Some fungus started and made a mess in my 3V blade.
Elmax would be their stainless option.
Both very hard steel, a bit hard to sharpen on traditional stones.
So, now that you went to higher values, maybe you could take a look at Dan Koster knifes. I don't know then, but they look pretty good. Maybe my next purchase. I'm looking on the Bushcraft and the EDC at 5''. The problem here would be not only the high price, but the long waiting. I would love to see Bark River doing those scandis and that EDC desing.
Nice to see more videos on Bark River.
