Finally, the truth! It’s a rough business, always has been. However, there is another major factor affecting the cost of living in Nashville. Over the last 20 years, the healthcare industry has moved in in a big way and bought up a lot of real estate and moved in a lot of employees Across the country this really drove up local prices for everybody. That’s where the gentrification came from. In many ways, Nashville is “Music city“ in name only these days. She went and got herself diversified!
I’m glad I found your channel sir. I’m new to the industry, but have been playing guitar since I was a teenager. I’m taking the producer route though, but it’s always cool to hear from the ones who’ve already done it.
Texas
I was there the month before for business. We broke out a little early and I walked over to browse the store. Despite the eye candy, i was surprised the prices weren’t at a discounted price I.E. same as Guitar Center, Sweetwater, American Musical, etc. Couldn’t understand why since they’re selling them direct: no transportation costs, no middleman, etc.
Wow cause guitars are the same price as they were in the 70,s
The Kings & Queens! Haha.. spot on. The reality is: if music is what your spirit is, and that's what gives you some sanity - use it just for that. Be content with little so you can have this special escape from the madness...😉
So true!
IF your house was on fire, and you could only grab one guitar ; which one would it be. Vid Please. Thank you.
I would try and grab a bunch and probably get caught in the blaze...
Hey, man. Dig the channel. I'm looking fwd to seeing you scope out the Tampa scene, maybe some vids and opinions, and how you acclimate yourself into the fabric of the Tampa music scene. Good luck. Enjoy the Sunshine State! I'm up here in the rust belt...
Will do. I’ve made some steps to figure out the Tampa scene and I’ll try and share them in an upcoming video. Still we are in Daytona for about a month so kinda in limbo right now.
@badbrad it's a good topic for one of your morning porch talks. What are some steps to ingratiate yourself into the local music scene if you're new to the area or if you've been out of the music scene for a prolonged period of time, for whatever reason, and now want to "get back into it?" What does a guy do? Hit up all the open mics? Craigs list? Social media? I used to play in bar bands for a long time, then became a truck driver and was on the road for nearly ten years, now, I'm trying to get back into it. It's hard, especially as an older guy. Anyways, dude, love the channel. Always looking forward to the next video. Later.
@@THEMUGLYBUZZARDS Got new ones coming tomorrow and the next morning. I will do a video on what I'm doing to try and get going.
Really like listening to your thoughts thank you for sharing them. I think most of the time things like aggression and mean behavior among humans is about primates passing on stress to others. Because this is stress reducing to the one who passes it on and stress still kills today. But it isn't just humans right, you can watch baboons doing it too. I have also found humor to be a good foil against that sort of behavior. Hope your move is going well.
Great post and so true. 🙏
Beautiful playing my friend. For a second here I was feeling Gary Moore. Watched again. If they ever do a movie about him….you should 1000 percent be cast. Lol.
Wow, thank you!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing the video of the jam. The guitar fits the fiery vibe perfectly.
Thanks so much. It is much appreciated!
Tickets are so much, i stopped going.
Yeah me to!
Went to Belmont back in the late eighties. My first apt in (400 sq. Ft.) 1992 was $350 per month and I was able afford it driving delivery. That same complex in Hillsboro Village is over $2000 a month now.
Yeah it is crazy!
Great song, beautiful guitar and sick hair! One question though, how do you setup your Gretsch action/relief wise? In inches or mm. It kinda buzzes on the lower strings but sounds beautiful and looks very playable
It’s was set up perfect out the box. The buzz you hear just maybe the way I was hitting the notes. Plays like a dream
@@badbrad No I mean it was acoustic buzz picked up by room mic on your song breakdown, didn't come through in the full mix. It sounded beautiful. But I think it's setup lower than the 4/64 factory spec hence the acoustic buzz
I'm so stoked for you brother. My channel is fully monetized too, but my last run of vids tanked. haha. Guess that's part of this game. As long as we share our love of music, we will find our tribe. I still say we should do some collabs one day. Would be a great learning experience for both of our channels. I lived in FL for 10 years, where abouts are you again? Keep going Brad.
Thanks so much bro. Yeah sometimes they tank and sometimes the ones you think won't do anything take off. Spaghetti at the wall. I do think I've found a format that people seem to like. We will do a collab but I need to build a little more. I'll eventually be in Tampa...we are in temp digs now.
@@badbrad Well, how rad is that. I lived in Tampa for 10 years. I can hook you up with some amazing music peeps. My buddy Mike owns the best studio in Tampa and my buddy Jim is a big time mixer and mastering engineer there. We definitely gotta chat. Keep crushing my dude.
@@mrelmoresmusiclab Wow that is awesome!
@@badbrad Small world...right. You are going to hit it off with Jim. He worked in LA, is around your age and one of my best friends. I bet you even know a lot of the same peeps. Just let me know when you decompress and I will give you the details. Oh, and my buddy Anthony Little lives there and was a producer in Nashville for a long time. haha. I miss Tampa and my daughter is there with her mom.
@mrelmoresmusiclab that’s great thank you! It will be a little over a month before we are in Tampa.

That’s rough and part of the journey.
Y’all getting paid?!?!?
lol
Indeed!!!!
let us see the surrounding please if you wish
Ok
My dreams are shattered!! 😢 zhuess zi should appreciate my tech job! That is just shameful you guys should be paid thousands per show!!
I appreciate it but in reality the costs outweigh the ability to pay each guy more.....
Touring musicians should get together and stop the theft. In 96 I was with a major act and was doing the promotional side of tour manager also. We had multiple top 5 songs and 3 number 1 songs. We were hot. I was pd salary of $750 plus per diem. The rest of the guys received $500 plus per diem. I got on line to get tickets today for my wife to see Lainey Wilson. A decent ticket was $500. Not cool!!! If I named the artist everyone would know him and he would be embarrassed so I won’t. I got out of the industry for this reason. I make way more now and no one knows who I am and I’m ok with that lol.
I hear you there and yes tickets prices are insane. I wouldn't pay 5 dollars for most of em.
I came to town about a year after you did and quickly found out I was not a good enough musician to work in Nashville. I love being around the industry and players so I’ve ended up with my own amp building/repair shop. Work from home and sleep in my own bed. Ironically, my 25 year old son is a touring bass player. Go figure. I appreciate your videos and wish you the best in Florida.
Yes very cool. I saw some of your amps when I was on the road. We opened for FGL on the Cruise tour and one of the guitarists had a Shaw head.

If you live near a Walt Disney, they pay at least $1,300.00 per evening.

@badbrad That rate was years ago in 1997. Now maybe more, maybe less.
@@MrJohnnyDistortion Ok cool thanks!
What do you expect for 3 hours of work per day?
Bro you honestly don't know what you're talking about....."yeah that ain't working get your money for nothing and your chics for free".
Step off...
I started playing in the 60's. Gibson was big because they were only real good players. I had a chance to play many of the late 50's Gibson guitars. To be honest they were hit or miss also. I ended playing a 1957 Jr. I put a LP Deluxe pickup in to cut thr feed back, Then in the early 70's Ibanez came out and I quickly changed to one of there V's. Great guitar. The one thing that I just laugh at is the reissues and their high prices. They are only a LP Standard that Gibson uses to charge way to much money for. PRS, Suhr (great necks) And couple custom shop Fenders (EC & EJ) that are alot cheaper and they are worth what I paid You will never be able to tell the Reissue guy's any different. Yes I do have reissue and play my 86 Studio more. Plays great (payed $400 for it). The reissue I got cheap helping a guy who needed some extra cash or I wouldn't have bought it. I have found if I want a good giutar out of the box I buy Suhr. They spend a lot of time on the neck before they send them out. PRS quality is top notch. I was looking for a standard in the Minneaplis area had to do a lot of looking to find a good one.
Yes PRS and Suhr are great out of the box. Gibson and Fender can be hit or miss...
Hell yeah
rock on
I’m 30min outside in the Boro. Enjoy the channel and good luck w the move. Glad you brought up the intermediate feel comment. I brought it up too on Jonathan Cordy channel, citing Page, Eric Johnson, punk stuff all rushing but feeling great for track and energy. I recently doubled a heavy Marshall track w LP and Tele. I know I rushed, it sounded great. Different strokes, different songs. Enjoy your life.
Yes indeed. Not every song needs to feel like your on 'ludes lol. Thank you. Best to you.
Killer improv.
Thank you!
A tonex in the effects loop of the hx stomp gets pretty much any guitar tone
Yeah that’s a great rig right there.
Great tone
Thank you!
Nice jam. What amp and pedals are you using? It sounds great. I have the same guitar 🎸
Thank you! I just used the Line 6 Pod Express….
I got my short gig with Johnny Jones by auditioning as a Bass player , Johnny said afterwards, let's try Him on Lead guitar, Call William Scruggs to play Bass !
Wow that is cool!
@@badbrad You must know William !
@@tacmason The name sounds familiar....
The Musicman must play like buddah...rock on dude. "Gear" = "Musician's Bank Account"
Yes it does.
You are right man about gear. Another thing too about "the right gear" is that if you can give yourself the edge of sounding better than other people based simply on your gear thats like a bonus you can give yourself with knowledge and money. For instance, back in 2003 I discovered the Takamine palethetic pickup with Takamine's Cool Tube preamp blended with Takamine's Triax soundhole humbucker....with that system matched to pair with each other to date theres not a better sounding live system for acoustic guitar. I constantly had musicians asking me how my acoustic sounded so good. I tried hard to get endorsed by Takamine for years and they wouldn't do it, I did have a Taylor endorsement for a while though, but for plugged in nothing I have found beats the above mentioned configuration.
Yes very much so. Find out what everybody uses and present a similar but better sounding rig. Def. give you an edge. Acoustic has never been my bag but yeah sounds like you figured out how to make it sound killer.
Man, when I retired I sold my Bose L1M2 pa system. I did that because I knew if I kept it I might be tempted to return to live shows again. It was a weird experience for me, I didnt want to sell my Bose pa but selling my pa was my way of stopping myself from ever being in the place I was mentally. A few years later I did finally buy another small but great pa system because I knew I was past the urge to torture myself by playing live shows. I have a nice set of powered EV12's and a nice Mackie 12 channel board I bought for home use. I am down to an FSR 2012 American deluxe strat, a Ibanez RG550, and a couple of Takamines.
Man I hear you! I haven't owned a P.A. in decades. Might need a small one for solo gigs.
@@badbrad Hey man if you are looking for a small pa the one I have I have owned around 4 versions of the same pa, its a workhorse and sounds good. I have the EV ZLX12's (ive owned about 10 of these), they are 1000 watt powered speakers and good price, and I have the Mackie ProFX12 v3 mixing board, its a great lil board and the effects are pretty good. With stands, mixer and mixer bag and speakers you come in under $1500. and have a solid pa. If you sing, check out the Audix OM-7 no better stage mic on the planet for feedback suppression and it sounds great too.
@@BillyBlaze7 Thanks for the tip
@@badbrad yes sir. On the Audix OM-7 its got an extremely tight pattern so you gotta eat the mic. It take a bit to get used to how tight the pattern is, you can trail off vocal notes just by moving your mouth like a half an inch. But once you get used to working it your feedback issues are over. My pa sat behind me so feedback was a huge issue for me
@@BillyBlaze7 ok cool. Thank you.
Nice. I’ve heard brief solos in country songs that made me go “wait, more of that please!” Almost like jazz rock stuff. Holdsworth was such a monster. I delivered a piano to Shawn Lane in Memphis in the 90’s. Had no idea who he was but got a strong yoda vibe. Later I learned that he is the guitar GOAT
Yeah you can hear some really nice playing from time to time. Holdsworth was incredible. Wow Shawn Lane...what an underground legend.
Only us older guy's still think having a full stack with a couple hundred watt heads are needed 😂 now all you need is a laptop and a house sound system to plug into 😅
I know. I still want one of them Friedman Plexi's but I don't have anywhere I can turn it on....let alone crank it.
@badbrad I still remember dragging around my Marshall Jcm 900 × 4 ×12 cabs. Logistical nightmare and yes, only started sounding good cranked up and way too loud for the band 😂
@@johnpichla9557 Back in my Sunset Strip days after a show and maybe a couple brews and bravado...I would carry a 4-12 cab in each arm...probably why my back hurts now.

Not to discount what you're saying, it's 100% true, but...this housing problem and the expense associated with it isn't limited to musicians - it affects every occupation. Rents are obscenely high now, even for a small s-hole in a rough section of town, and that's if you can find anything at all. Gee, allowing tens of millions of people to flow unchecked into the country has consequences, and unaffordable rent is one of them...what a surprise. Inflation = too many people chasing too few goods. Applies to house prices and rent too.
I hear you and very valid points.
Have a safe trip back!
