Hey Brad…I just wanted to say man, that I love your channel. I’m 54 years old & I can relate to everything that you talk about brother.
The 80’s were the best decade ever. The perfect time for Music and Movies. And everything else in between.
I myself got my first guitar on Christmas Eve of 86. A Memphis Stratocaster. Kind of ironic, huh?

Hay Badbrad, I just wanted to say that I am a new subscriber to your channel, as of today and I really enjoy listening to you and hearing about your experiences and I appreciate you sharing the stories and the wisdom as I am also fellow musician ( lead guitar). I am 53 years old now and I started playing when I was about 15 or 16 years old after seeing the mighty Van Halen or Van Hagar in concert. Eddie Van Helen was my idol after seeing him play his spot light solo and I wanted to be just like him but anyways, I landed a good job playing on the road when I was 21 years old and traveled non stop, playing just about every night for about 2 years straight all around the country, and man I really got an education out of that whole experience and it taught me a ton about many things besides just music. I also lived in Columbia Tn for close to 20 years and just recently moved back to my home town in Rome Georgia. Thank you for sharing your experiences and I love your show. I jammed with you on this video as I had to get my electric out and it does keep us alive. That was a fun jam and I look forward to many more and hearing your stories. Thanks and best wishes to you and your family

Receivers of my calls came to know immediately about how I could help them in context of how I had distinguished myself from the competition. The sincerity in my voice was conveyed. I would be curious to know something about the whole process of getting gigs, negotiating pay, etc. Especially in some place that is NOT Nashville. I bet there are a lot of musicians like me, who live in places where the music scene is, let's say, not as exciting as Nashville. But we still want to be out there playing doing our best to entertain people and also make a little money at it. So your advice from your wealth of experience would be greatly appreciated!

Dude! Your guitar playing is awesome! Just do your thing. Personally, I am a bit different. I refuse to learn or play other people's songs because music is my retirement hobby, not my profession, and I am a creator and that is how I want to spend the rest of my retirement years. I have a very nice studio with all sort of instruments and the world can go to hell. I live in my own bubble. At almost 70, I haven't cut my hair in ages, dress like a hippie, behave and act like one because I don't have communion with the "alcohol addicted" music scene that is cultural and by design. A loser proposition but most realize so when they hit their 60's if ever when chronic disease becomes their normal. Let your hair grow, start your own band with alike looking individuals that are cool and have charisma. No charisma, no presence, big failure. Never dye your hair, you can't hide your age, maturity. When I see a musician with short hair or dyed hair, I immediately change the youtube channel. Long hair is a statement against status quo, dying your hair is kind of a sign of an insecure person in my opinion. Nobody wants to be another square, another brick in the wall. Those are a dime a dozen, like 95% of musicians. Dress cool when you perform. Project your feelings to the crowd as you play. I like rhythm guitar, drums and bass because that is the engine of the band, that unstoppable train. The lead guitar to me is where this train is going to take me. When I get the feeling of sparkles sound behind my ears in guitar playing, that is an orgasmic experience of the audio kind. Stay in shape until your 70s or forever to live a quality life disease free. Nobody wants to see an obese person playing because if you can't manage your own presence, image, the rest of your life is apparently pretty obvious a wreck, will power and maturity, being in command, is lacking. I have got a feeling that you could start an awesome band and do your thing succeeding at it. That is my opinion and opinions are like you know what, everyone has one. The hair thing, do whatever suits you I guess. When my fur lost it's pigment I decided to buy a set of clippers. my reasoning was that getting a dye job to look good is pretty tricky and expensive in the long run. my hair grows so quick that the roots would show through in no time, then i'd need to spend more trying to cover it up. chop it off was my solution and grow the fuzz on my face instead, I don't care what colour that is. I told my grandson (who has really long hair) to cut it off when he gets old, as old dudes with really long hair look odd, the long look is for the young. I clip up every couple of days now, it suits me, although it isn't a good look on everyone. meh do what you like, you just have to live by your choices, some people say I look like a criminal, kinda funny when you consider I used to work in law enforcement, but that's the names I get for my choices and I live with it.

I wish I could have been a musician, or learned to play something.....who didn't back in the 70s-80s? We had great music and the radio blasted iconic tunes 24/7, MTV videos, year after year. But alas....most of us knew we had to take life seriously, & get real jobs, do real drudgery and only dream of the RnR lifestyle. I hung out with too many musicians and bands to list. One thing I realized early on, was that musicians were, for the most part, exceptionally talented at their craft (they put a LOT of time and effort into learning it).....but in life, they were generally a train wreck. Almost without exception. The old adage of what do you call a drummer without a girlfriend.....(homeless)......was in fact the truth from what I saw. Or close to it.
Looking back (and enjoying a early retirement with all the bells and whistles) I am glad I worked my ass off (at least the same amount of hours that a touring musician would have done, if not more, plus hell on the body) and now have zero worries about my upcoming golden years.....but it would have been fun to play a gig once. At least we have stories like Brad's to keep us entertained! I a thinking of learning to play something in my retirement just to see if I had any musical skill whatsoever, which is questionable at best. Then again...the guys I knew in bands were smart but only had discipline in their art....their lives were always a mess, which made it hard to be friends with anyone in a band. But they had guts to get on stage and play that thing. Which I always appreciated and admired. And always will.
See you in the cheap seats....which is where I sit nowadays. I don't like standing up front anymore like when I was a kid....hurts my back!!!

I like the panhandle....also known as "LA"....which means lower Alabama...:)
FL has changed a lot but has not gotten worse like Nashville has...i.e. it's more crowded and expensive, but didn't get dirtier, or deadlier by and large. Who knows what the future holds though. It seems to be nice and stable for the foreseeable future. A lot of big city refugees moved in after learning the hard way.
