I really liked Otto in this episode - as a character, not as a person 🤮, naturally - he reminds me a lot of Polonius from Hamlet! A very boring, straight-laced court functionary who would either be despised by the rock-and-roll protagonists for being too boring or acting out of place if he wasn't boring enough. The way Polonius treats Ophelia is absolutely horrid, too, just like with Allicent, and to similar ends for all. All the people who call him Diet Tywin, I think, are very off base, although with HotD kinda trying to be diet game of thrones, it makes sense.

I‘m not sure what it is about the framing, but I feel like even though his counsels are rock solid (in the case of sending dragons to the stepstones he‘s even proven correct next episode) people seem to walk away from this episode thinking that he‘s an entirely self-serving, even incompetent a**hole.My evidence for this is rather flimsy as it consists mostly of me watching the show with my siblings, but the first sentence out of my brother after watching this episode was „Otto is extremely underhated.“ Perhaps you could elaborate on that in future episodes? I think that Viserys choosing Rhaenyra goes beyond spurring Daemon. The fact that Viserys told Rhaenyra about the prophesy signifies that. I think Viserys main problem is that he hasn't FULLY committed to his choice. He has one foot in and one foot out. I think that's why he isn't adequately preparing her.

Don't get me wrong, they definitely friend, but I never got the impression that they were as a close as so many fans and critics seem to think. Which is why deterioration of their relationships feels off. IMO, the show should have spent more time establishing their closeness.

i think billy and max are the single best written characters in the show, i highly adore both of them. both of them easily won my heart the more they where shown. i want nothing more than a spinoff where they run off together, or maxs mom divorced neil and is able to take billy from neil in court and they all just rebuild their lives together. max finally starts to have the older brother she deseeves, and billy gets to have a mother when his birth one abandoned him. it wont be perfect, billy is just a teen with a lifetime of trauma to heal, but its be the start of a chance at a normal life tgat they all deserve

Yes, it was a result of the trauma that her own father inflicted on her, but she played the exact same role that Otto did in perpetuating and passing on this generational trauma and hatred down to the next generation. Otto was pushed and forced by his brother into scheming and grasping for the crown, Alicent was pushed by Otto to do the same (as she points out, before she was even old enough to think for herself or know what she wanted or who she was as a person), but she then goes on to do *the exact same thing* to Aegon. I understand why she felt she had to make the choices she made, but she's just as guilty as the rest of them in this story of inter-generational trauma and abuse where parents inflict their own hatreds onto their children, and push the children down the same self-perpetuating path. She doesn't deserve MORE blame than anyone else for being unable to break out of that cycle, but she doesn't deserve less blame either.

2 years late to the video but yes, i love Sansa in the books, im not gona lie I watched the first 2 or 3 seasons before I read the books and in the GOT show at first i disliked her i never hated her, she was a kid, but i disliked her actions, later in the first season i just satarted feeling so bad for her and that went on for the other seasons but she never was my favorite character or i didnt like her character as much I just wanted her to be free and have some happiness but then when I read the books I loved her, her point of view is amazing from the begining and even with her mistakes the way she thinks and acts makes so much sense and when the books progress they show how strong she is and how she is trying to survive her aweful situation and also she is shown to be very kind in multiple ocations even when she is in a very bad environment.

Daemon is a guilty pleasure of mine, but he is such an a-hole that I’m also on House Hightower’s side. Baelon and Viserys should have nipped that behavior in the bud from the get-go.

The thing I think a lot of people (especially a lot of TB) don't understand is that the war wasn't about whether women could rule or not; that was something that regularly happened before the Targaryens. It was about whether the king had absolute power to name his heir, or if traditions and laws take precedence. Rhaenyra was named heir at a time when she was the only child and it was accepted because it was either her or Daemon, and while Viserys never publicly named Aegon his heir, he also never really publicly reaffirmed Rhaenyra's claim after Aegon’s birth. This left the claim up in the air: do you go off the words of a king made at a time when the situation was very different, or do you fall back on tradition? The Dance had nothing to do with feminism/sexism, and even if Rhaenyra officially took the throne, women wouldn't be considered on the same level as men and there was little evidence she actually cared about that at all outside of her own claim.

I haven't read the books. Let's get that out of the way. The reason I don't like Sansa is because she is a brat. She treats John Snow like trash while all her other siblings treat him as family. She treats her own servants like trash. She turns on Arya and lies to the king about Joffre and it resulted in the death of an innocent boy and her own Direwolf. Later on she constantly publicly argued with John Snow after John was named King in the North. And when they choose to make her brother, Bran, king she objects. She isn't smart but she is clever and gets more clever as the story progresses but she completely undermines her own family to become Queen in the North. Again I never read the books but I plan to

From what I’ve seen on the show, it appears there are feelings, deep feelings held between them. However due to Criston clinging to his vows and Alicent’s potential trauma regarding sex and romance (Viserys killed that for her), I don’t think they’re going to have a physical affair. Emotional perhaps though

Interesting video. It reminded me of Sansa's false memory of The Hound kissing her. George Martin reportedly said that Sansa's false memory will be important later in the story. Could it be that this will somehow be used to show that Daenerys' memory isn't real either? What I personally also see as a possibility is that the image of the red door with the lemon tree was a dragon dream. We know that she is capable of having prophetic dreams, and both Bran and Jojen explain that their prophetic dreams somehow feel different, more real, than normal dreams. I suspect that Daenarys had this dream at a very young age so she couldn't tell the difference between the dream and the real world.
