Thank you. I will give it a try. On some baits I use an improved cinch knot and that has been breaking from time to time (always on a huge fish🙂 I use a Palomar whenever I can and I have never had a problem with that knot - it just can't be used on some baits. I will look for a CZcams video on the Jimmy Houston knot and give it a try. I moved up to 17lb Flourocarbon leader and that has also helped. btw - I have another video almost ready to post from yesterday where the knot did not break and I landed a nice fish. I should have it uploaded tomorrow.

I am not sure I understand the question. I did not want a cheap bass boat. I wanted a fishing kayak. They are incredibly fun and fantastic exercise. I turn 70 next year and I am in as good or better shape than anyone else I know in my age group.

If the wind is very light, you might want to try topwater. I have had good luck using a whopper plopper. Otherwise, a spinnerbait or paddle tail should work well. Once the heat sets in, I would go deeper with a jig or a dropshot worm.

Hi Craig. I love the new kayak. The extra size of the PA 14 makes standing up much easier and the dual motors mean I can easily cover 15 miles or more when I am out on the lake.

Nice to be on a lake and travel or cover more water without having a pedal lol. That doesn’t seem like much of an issue now though.

Thanks. I have a Hobie i11s inflatable. I originally got it for use with our 5th wheel. The other kayak is too big to carry. It works great when we go camping in the 5th wheel but I also figured out it works really well in hard to get to places. It is only 35 lbs.

Me2. Water temp is 79 deg and lake elevation is about 824. At 831 it goes over the spillway. That would be bad. Road washese out - happened twice since the dam was built.

Thanks. I ended the day with 5 fish. The 3lber in the video was the best. I got one 2lber and the others were about 12 inches - maybe a lb each.

Yes, I tested them in my swimming pool. They work great for all my rods except one. I have a punching setup that needs two floats. I also "tested" one in the lake by accident, and it saved my rod and reel from sinking to the bottom of Lake Camanche.

Thank you! Yes, the PVC works really well through the scupper holes into the larger PVC rails below. It keeps the kayak from shifting around. I am heading out with the full setup tomorrow morning early to New Melones.

I have had my best luck at New Melones lately. McClure and Don Pedro are okay but not as hot as New Melones.

So for me the top three baits at Don Pedro are 1. spinnerbait, 2. Fish head jig with a paddle tail trailer, 3. Crankbait in a bluegill or perch pattern. Of course the time of year and other factors can affect the bait choice but overall these are my three go-to baits. I will switch up the crankbait between a squarebill for shallower rocky areas and a lipless for deeper drop offs. Let me know how you do out there.

Thanks. Yes I will spend some time going over how I use the spinnerbait. It will probably be 2-3 weeks from now. My son is getting married in a little over 10 days and we are hosting the wedding at our home so it is a little hectic right now getting everything ready.

@@AM-we6en I think the answer is yes but it is difficult to tell. Moccasin creek itself is usually a good spawning ground for the Largemouth but I have not found many there this year. The two Largemouth that I caught were up very shallow in a grassy cove across from the 120 bridge.

Great! First cast fish always make me optimistic for the day. I think the chop helps with the bite. I think it breaks up the light underwater and the fish are more likely to react to your bait.

That is awesome! Time for your kids to start building those memories. My wife and I still go up there camping from time to time and I used to take my kids but they are adults now and scattered to other parts of the country. I started fishing the lake shortly after they built the new dam. The old dam was visible but quickly getting submerged as the water level was rising. My dad and I had a canoe that we used to fish the lake. There was no boat ramp back then. We would park off the road and hand carry the canoe to the water. Have fun out there.

@@elpatron3862 Great timing on your question. I am still editing the footage I shot at New Melones today, but once it is done, I will have a better count - somewhere around 15 spotted bass, 1 largemouth bass, and 1 rainbow trout.

@@elpatron3862 Yes, it was a blast. I recommend using a crankbait, spinnerbait, or fish head jig with a paddle tail. I cast from about 40-50 feet out from the shoreline and retrieve the bait slowly so it runs a little deeper. Best area for me was along the Angels creek main channel where it is fairly steep and either rocky or some sort of lay down timber. Good Luck!

Thanks! Yes the spinnerbait is my favorite - as long as I am catching fish. Sometimes I have to force myself to try other baits. I am looking forward to the spawn. I want to try a shaky head jig with a wacky rigged worm. Something is telling me that will work well. We shall see.

It is probably time I went back there again. That video was from 8 years ago and I have not been back since. In fact I have only been there twice. My first trip there was when I was a teenager circa early 1970s.

Yes the spotted bass bite was very good. Points and rock piles were the best areas.

Yes it was a really fun day out there. The remote is for a Bixpy K1 motor that I added to the back of my kayak. What a difference the motor makes to my range and speed. I can pedal and run the motor at the same time. Before the motor my longest day was about 12 miles. Now I can do 18 miles and not get as tired.

I was using a 3/4 oz Blade bait and a 1/2 oz spinnerbait in white/red with double silver willow blades. I would throw the bait up to the shoreline and then do a slow retrieve and let it fall with the contour of the lake. I am guessing a bit but the bites were mostly in the 15-20 ft. depth and the fish seemed to be attacking from below. @@AM-we6en IMHO Pardee is the best Smallmouth fishery in this area. Not only are there a lot of smallmouth Bass in Pardee but they are healthy and of faiirly large size. One of my best outings there I was fishing with a tube bait and a weighted hook. I must have run into a school of them. I caught 10 from 2 to 4 lbs. I can't wait to get back up there and try again.

@@KidBako I was using GoPro Studio and have been for nearly 10 years. Problem is GoPro dropped support years ago and it finally broke and won't work with the new Hero 12 file format. I did a search and VideoProc Vlogger seemed to be the best rated free software. So far so good. It is fairly easy to get started and has much more functionality than GoPro Studio ever did. I am still learning but their help and the many CZcams tutorials out there make it pretty east to get up and running.

Thanks! The camera mounted to my hat is a GoPro Hero 7 Silver shooting at 4K resolution. That is what this video is shot at. The camera I used to have mounted behind me was a GoPro Hero 4 Black approaching 10 years old which was set to 1080p resolution. The Hero 4 has been giving me trouble for about 6 months so I am replacing it with a brand new GoPro Hero 12 Black which is setup at 5.3K resolution. My next fishing trip will be a mix of the Hero 7 and Hero 12 footage. It may take me a little while to post the next video. I have been using GoPro Studio for editing but that software is no longer supported and it does not work with the Hero 12 footage. I found something free called Videoproc Vlogger which seems pretty good but I am just starting to learn how to use it.
