Bass Fishing New Melones Lake California 06 21 2023

I went back up to New Melones for some bass fishing. I launched from the Angels Creek ramp at about 5:30 AM. The bite was strange. Nothing until around 10 AM, and then it was like someone rang the dinner bell. Here is video of 5 - mixed Largemouth and Spots. I caught 10, although not all made it onto video. Then once dinner was over, the bite went back to nonexistent. I fished until around 1 PM, but the best hour was 10-11. Summer vacation is definitely here. I saw a few other fishermen but lots of water skiers - it looks like fun but I am getting too old for that.

On a more somber note I just saw the news and a 39 year old man from Europe visiting family drowned in New Melones around 5 PM yesterday (same day I was out fishing). He went down a slide (probably from a house boat) into the lake without wearing a life jacket. Alcohol may have been involved but regardless a life jacket would have saved his life. A quick check of any of my videos will show that I always 100% of the time wear my international orange life jacket - you should too.
