Are self-driving cars solving the wrong problem?
Self-driving technologies offered by Tesla, Waymo, Cruise, and others are impressive but they beg the question: what problem are they solving? Since Waymo just began testing here in Atlanta, let's discuss if self-driving technologies will _finally_ fix traffic.
Waymo has just begun testing here in Atlanta, Georgia, and I stalked and chased them around for weeks to get just a few seconds of B-roll! Like, comment, subscribe, and maybe share if you enjoyed it 😉 _Thanks for watching!_

Is Atlanta Full?
zhlédnutí 40KPřed 3 měsíci
It's become kind of a cliche here to say "We full!" Yes it's amusing, but how are we full if we're one of the least dense metro areas in the country? To understand why, we have to dig deep into the history of zoning policy, the Missing Middle, and the current state of zoning & housing reform. What's going on with rail on the Atlanta Beltline?
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 8 měsíci
Atlanta hasn’t seen a new rail project since the 2000s - MARTA is to finally build the first segment of rail on the Beltline as originally envisioned, by 2028. Let’s deep dive into why the project makes sense, and why its the most exciting project the city is doing this decade. Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback on the last video! What Happened to Downtown Atlanta?

Downtown Atlanta was once a vibrant city center now it's a hollow shell of it's former self. Honestly, it kind of sucks, unless you're here for the touristy things. I grew up always wondering why downtown didn't feel quite right in today's video, we find out. It became ghetto n dangerous
Is this an intentional Dylan Roof cosplay?
How about finding for some police to actually enforce the law? We moved out.
“Were still getting traffic what do we do” “Just make another lane so the folks in the middle are trapped”
At 2:07 that's GSU's Aderhold building, probably the nicest block in downtown Atlanta.
Poncey-Highlands was nice in the 80's. It's a dump now.
Midtown????😂😂😂😂😂😂THIS CITY IS A COMPLETE DUMP.
Essentially, racism was the downfall. Being a native myself, I knew by 6 I needed to leave downtown Atlanta. There is literally nothing down there. And because of the 96 Olympics, no native black or otherwise lives south of midtown or even Peachtree corridor.
Midtown>>>>
Anyone else realize we like to watch school presentations for fun now?
The 24th Amendment.
Gen Z love for urbanism just shows how ignorant they are of 70s-90s city life: the homelessness, drug addiction, and unemployment. Yall should really go live your big ideals instead of complaining about why things are like Boomers/Gen X
I think the high use only shows how little green spaces the area has. This all started because the city doubted public opinion there wasn't enough green space. And after doing research about this. Found Atlanta to be one of the worst for green space. Atlanta spent decades of just pouring concrete and paving. Maybe they can build off the beltline with some neighborhood parks?
Nobody who lives in ATL visits downtown except for business. But 5 mins from downtown is Krog st entrance to the beltline, and that's miles of modern walkable shopping, art installations, parks, eateries and breweries. The beltline connects a diverse array of neighborhoods and people use it to walk, bike or scoot around through lush forests and neighborhoods. Downtown will never be a thing because no one wants to spend their saturday in a concrete jungle.
Midtown>>>>>>>
The idea of transit radiating out from Atlanta is flawed. It's for city boosters but most of the metro population is in the North metro and needs transit between the Northern suburbs. Top-end 285 HOT lanes will start to offer this.
Are you kidding? Downtown has always sucked.
Georgia needs another major metropolitan area really badly. We're a BIG state, so we can't have home values determined by how close to Atlanta they are.
Life moved up to Midtown and Buckhead and even Cumberland and Perimeter Center if you expand beyond CoA.
We up north dawg. Alpharetta, Buford, Marietta, Kennesaw, Suwanee, Duluth. We go as far down as buckhead and midtown.
ATLANTA HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO BE JUST LIKE NEW YORK CITY. CONGRATULATIONS ATLANTA, YOU MADE IT!
I can't tell if you're attractive or not
2:05 Rueben's slaps tho
Well, let’s not forget that the ENTIRE city was burned down to the ground, and hastily & quickly rebuilt - out of necessity - during the Civil War.
This explains a lot. I just went to visit ATL and we stayed downtown. We walked to the aquarium and Coca Cola museum….but I immediately noticed how “dead” downtown was…it was rather shocking. After that, me and my lady walked a few blocks to find a bottle. I had an uneasy feeling the entire time. Nothing but homeless people and the smell of urine. I can’t imagine walking some of those same streets once the sun goes down……
Blacktivity
Been like that for 20 years, where have you been?
Creepy because it's the place withmore than 100 percentage of higher crime than in other states
Show us the homeless there
Downtown Atlanta sucks there is not safety there I was victim of crimes there it's to dangerous
Common W
Most downtowns suck in major cities idk why but they are redeveloping the area
It's full of crap , nothing to do in the city , you have to drive North or South to really find anything fun .
Poor leadership and homelessness, drugs , crime ,gangs
NIMBY. That's what's going on
I feel like a large number of opposers think that rail would REPLACE the bike/ped trail. It's like they don't see the huge space set aside separate from the existing trail.
As soon as I see a future representation with a bunch of flying cars and immediately it makes me go this is bull crap.
Atlanta is so decentralized. I’ve lived here for 22 years, and Midtown is the real Downtown. 75/85 bisecting the city makes it impossible to create organic continuity. That’s why there are nice districts in the city, but to get from one of those to another one, you have to drive, often on the highway or through mediocre/bland (or dangerous) neighborhoods.
Self-driving cars could be used more efficiently throughout the day, rather than sitting idle in parking lots. This could lead to a reduction in the total number of vehicles needed to meet transportation demands
Rideshare and Taxis already do this. Self driving cars would still tend to cluster around high demand destinations (Airports, Hotels, etc.) anyway because it's more profitable to do so, meaning you'd still need more vehicles to provide adequate capacity and coverage compared to transit + TOD. The only advantage SDCs have over Uber/Lyft is removing the need to compensate the driver, and even then that would probably be nullified by the need to maintain the fleet (rather than having the driver maintain/register the vehicle).
Not the FIGO food truck in Little Five Points, that's my go to for pasta😂
Everyone around downtown knows everywhere that isnt downtown is always 10x better. Every county is basically its own city with a completely different vibe, look and thing to do.
Toronto's downtown has this issue even worse
....Stop Voting Democrat ....STOP IT! .....GET SOME HELP!!
The Beltline is not a viable transit option it has become an atraction ! What they should do is a better way to get there from different areas of the city or metro area...
NHL should just have a brand-new hockey expansion team in Atlanta, more hockey in The Big Peach!🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏙🏙🏙🏙🏙🏙
I’ll tell you why. They built dumb things that no one wants to come to. Coca Cola…cool.. aquarium..cool. Civic rights museum and college football museum… no one gives a **** lol.
oHHHH noooo. You said the "H" word.
Great video!
Nah this video is an L waymo taking over
I agree
Atlanta has Midtown, Bucktown, and also Perimeter - Sandy Spring. These are newer and more bustling commercial areas. Downtown Atlanta has never been The Move. Atlanta sprawl vs a tighter city core in Chicago Loop might be due to zoning.
