Forget about motor size (which is unproven) and focus on safety infractions just like other vehicles. Insurance and registration should cost nearly nothing since the damage to infrastructure is practically non existent. Getting cars off the road should be a goal. It should be understood that New Jersey is corrupt anyway.

Not only do we need better infrastructure for cyclists also, better defiinition. Starts with reg. and insurance. Then they will start requiring a license. Most dont seam to care but..... what about every person who is disabled and has had thier license pulled. This may be the only form of transportation and independence they can afford. Now that can potentially be stripped away. It all comes down to money. The big corps are losing money from the lack of car sales, insurance for said cars, and taxes. Has nothing to do with safety. If ebike did not exist and all ebikers were on standars bicycles, they would find a way to do the same thing. Its all about lini g their pockets with our money.

Wow were those trees beautiful.. Ebikes are changing so fast and it is nice that there is competition.. Batteries are one of the things that are changing.. I still want to have a throttle mid-drive with a geared carbon gates hub.. I think we are getting close.. 21 miles @ 45 with 200 lbs driver is pretty good.. I think what I want is something to get me to the mountains 10 miles and then 10 miles in the mountains and then home so really about 40 miles..

You got it right. They should start with infrastructure. Fuel taxes and registration pay only part of road costs, the bulk typically paid by other taxes such as property, sales and income. So, bike riders are already paying more than their fair use portion of infrastructure as they put hardly any wear & tear on pavement. This is probably due to the e-bikes that go beyond the existing class 1, 2 and 3 definitions and people who speed on shared paths, especially when passing other people, especially on what are essentially light motorcycles.

It won't cost more than a couple hundred bucks a year for e-bikes to be registered and insured. Motorcycles are very cheap to have each year. E-bikes would be a fraction

I don't care about another states e bike laws and rules. Nobody here cares or would follow the laws or rules. We would just not buy an e-bike or any bike.

In British Columbia we have a new ebike class called 'light". It limits power to 250 watts, speed to 15 mph, no throttle and minimum rider age to 14 years. No changes have been made to the standard ebike classification. Pretty mild stuff.

If they require registration and insurance for electric bicycles they should require the same for regular acoustic bikes too because federal law says an ebike is a bicycle as long as it has functioning pedals. E-motorcycles like telarias and surrons are a different story

Agree. Speed kills - not power. An analog bike (no motor) at 35 mph poses a greater risk of death & injury to rider and nearby pedestrians than a 1000 watt electric assisted bike traveling at 10 mph. Common sense speed limits need to be imposed on all bicycles - electric & analog - to protect public safety.

They need to just modernize their ebike rules and abandon this effort. The actuarial cost of an ebike insurance policy on class 3 and under would probably be $20 a year or less, but I doubt that’s what the market will charge. I think this is all about the stuff above class 3. If that’s their issue, pass laws and enforce them, but don’t rely on insurance companies to handle “illegal” devices by not issuing insurance policies.

Lyric cycles is apparently in limbo with the recent death of their Owner and a fight over control with Lyric’s Creditors and the Estate. They look very close to bankruptcy and it would be extremely risky to give them money on a pre order at this time. There are several videos on CZcams and articles about the current troubles at Lyric. The recent 25% tariff on e bikes is probably the final nail.

Hey Mark a buddy of mine tested the Black X today and he sent some videos to me it’s gorgeous. Also he was very impressed with the performance he called it scary fast

Some bike frame/styles are designed to be sat on and rode on streets. If the tires are 20-24 inch and the seat is about the same height, you just are not going to stand up on the pedals to absorb bumps on trails. It would ruin your knees doing something like that, and your balance would be thrown off and make it dangerous at high speeds as you are wizzing by tree trunks.

Two fast lanes with no shoulder, or worse a disappearing lane like here, sketch me out. Drivers don't look ahead and can't figure out how to move over to give space even if the adjacent lane is clear.

i ordered this bike in black as well i live in an apartment on the 2nd floor with very steep stairs and im ready to struggle my ass off to carry this tank up and down daily just hope i don't fall with it lmao i ordered it when it was 110lbs but now its 120lbs :( anyways was thinking to remove the battery but idk if that will be an issue seems i will be going up and down the stairs 4 times per day which means disconnecting the battery 4 times per day lmao which could mess with the connection idk... anyways what did i sign up for 😭😭😭😭if i knew i was going to love ebikes so much i wouldn't have moved in the 2nd floor oh well pray for me

I own a Grizzly and use it as my main transportation but I never cared about the noise. Its because of the geared motor using metal coated gears instead of pure nylon/plastic. In the end its well worth it, just be respectable and know the rules/laws of the street.
