In Dallas, we have 70 mph speed limits with much more traffic. And on the toll lanes, the speed limit is 75 mph. So the 65 mph seems strangely low with the comparitively sparse traffic.

I remember this road when it was still part of U.S. 101. It was one of the reasons it took well over two hours to get from Eureka to Crescent City. But, no one minded, and no one was in a hurry.

I really love the meadow at 0:55 . I remember a time when one could just pull off the road at a spot like that, and have a picnic---no permits, no reservations, no fees, no restrictions, ... I can still recall the flavor of bologna sandwiches, cold fried chicken, macaroni salad, home-baked cookies, and cream soda. Folks today will never know those simple joys.

Holy crap, I was watching all your recent videos making your way up the 101 and I was gonna comment and ask if you drove the avenue of the giants or Newton Drury and here you go dropping it lol. I absolutely love this area of the country. I've driven all over but nothing compared to the 101 from San Francisco all the way to Astoria, then around the Olympic peninsula. Epic drive

This was my old stomping grounds back in the 90’s where I made UPS deliveries. I’d frequently see the Tule Lake Elk Herd in the evenings after I finished my deliveries in the hills on my way back to Marysville. Governor Jerry Brown actually moved and resides on his ranch in these hills since his retirement .

I enjoy the downtown tours.

I lived in Arcata for a while back in hmm, 1973? Hard to recall. I was rooming with a bunch of other kids, all students at either CR (College of the Redwoods) or Humbolt State College, which later became UC Humbolt. You didn't mention UC Humbolt when you listed the local colleges, did UC Humbolt later become CalPoly Humbolt?

Great place to visit. Ft Humboldt, Humboldt Bay, Arcata, Samoa Cook House, Trinidad, Famers Landing. Great food, very nice people and some beautiful scenery. OH yes, Ferndale and Fortuna too. Rio Del, Scotia on and on.

Some of the most beautiful country anywhere in the nation, my stomping grounds as a young boy in the 1960s and into the 1970s. Thanks for taking the drive up the North Coast. We had to evacuate as a result of the 1964 flood, ending up in Grants Pass, Oregon. It always nice to see the area, and was there last year. The home is gone but the charm of the place and its layout is still there.

I quite liked music switch when freeway ends we enter the southern edge of Fortuna. Looking forward to the next installments - my trip north on US 101 a few years ago ended around Trinidad.

We used to go to Grover state park near Markleville to go to tge hit springs. The Hot springs swimming pools where destryrd in the Caldor fire 4+ years ago.

My haunting ground for many years, really loved the North Coast, especially between Eureka and Crescent City. Eureka was invaded by hispanic and Asian wannabe gang punks in the later 90's, snd made the nice mall unsafe.

I lived in Eureka California from 1999 to 2003. It’s improved some, put the town still leaves much to be desired.😒😒😒😒😒
