Make sure you do this WITHIN your Maya 2018 folder! This saved me at the workplace tons!
Hi! What if, based on attributes i want some parts to have a rocky texture and some part to be snow, and other parts to be ice? let's say, the ''water'' and p.y = 0 its ice, and from 0.5 i want rocks, and the top is snow? since all of this materials have differents reflection/roughness etcetc, for me, its seems logical to create multiple shaders, but i dont find a way to combine them together without splitting the geo, ive tried with shader switch nodes etc. im getting confused, have you ever tried this? can you suggest something to achieve that?
Hi! There are a number of ways to achieve what you are looking to do. You could split the geo and apply different materials, but really depends on what you're working with and what you want at the end. Can you explain what kind of terrain you have (detail level, construction method and final intended end use)?

I'm sorry to ask but I still don't understand why Hard surface models like buildings or furniture need retopologizing, could you explain it, please?
Good question. There are a variety of reasons, retopologization can make the model easier for further editing, desirable subdivisional smoothing, easier UV mapping, better real-time performance and more. Does that help?

Thanks a lot, it's sometimes really confusing because when you import for example a smoke simulation, it covers the whole scene with white smoke, leaving no space for other objects to be seen. I'm happy I found out that I can actually adjust the density! Thanks for the tutorial, you deserved my like.

How would you go about keyframing this? I have a boat floating, but when i try to keyframe it to move in a direction, it just gets dragged under in that direction. I only added keys on the x and y axis. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks! It got me what I wanted, however I can't seem to keep the material value animation if I bake it. I have an SK with a basic animation, and the bone animation bakes fine, but the material element track doesn't seem to work. Right click > Bake Animation Sequence > default values - no material animation :C
