I’ve been offline for the pandemic time, sick in heavy ocd and I pretty much had to give up online life, due that terrible sickness from hell. So alas… I have the original 2 books from Helena and no priest but love as hard cover. ❤ Wouldn’t sell it for nuttin’ I don’t think I can be that blessed, to get it autographed by Helena, it would require a bloody miracle. HBO really made a big wrong decision to cut the production line of period drama. So far the video contents in discovery channel is very duplicated and boring. My feeling is period drama always warm ppl heart especially in this trouble world right now.

Great interview, Pat! You asked all the questions I had and then some. Thank you so much for all you do in bringing the AL community together!! The whole Eliza Raine story is so worthy of our attention. Very sad to ponder that she wasn't all that mentally ill initially, but a life of being shunned by others, of loosing all family, that will make you crazy eventually. The racism she encountered was serious and all pervasive (but polite!). Thank you Pat, for such a thoughtful interview! I hope another history is written about Eliza with the new material that has been discovered. I believe I read somewhere that she died with a sizable estate. Incredible. At least the people managing her fortune didn't steal it or squander it. Emma Donoghue is such a marvelous writer. I highly recommend The Pull of the Stars, too.

I adored this so much. I will definitely be getting Emma's book. I've been wanting to know more about Eliza Raine. To get this insight into a queer woman of colour in this time period is priceless and I'm grateful to the transcribers that aided in expanding our knowledge of her.

I don't understand why any self-respecting woman or LGB would support the 'transgender' movement, it is misogynist and homophobic to its core. Women were not historically denied rights b/c they 'identified' as women but b/c they were women. Women's rights are sex-based and we cannot legally protect what we can't define. Women's (and LGB's) rights based on sex are in direct conflict w/ 'gender identity.' The primary drivers of 'trans' are heterosexual, male cross-dresser sexual fetishists, autogynephiles/transvestic fetishists, men w/paraphilias who try to coerce lesbians to sleep w/ them b/c they claim they are lesbian too. Disordered hetero men who promote hormonal and surgical mutilation of so-called gender non-conforming minors most of whom are or will be same-sex attracted if allowed to grow up whole and healthy. Instead these minors and young adults are told the lie that they were 'born wrong' and should subject themselves to the 'gay coversion' therapy of 'transition' that renders them sterile and anorgasmic, it is 'sex lobotomy.' And 'transitioning' causes a host of medical problems and is a life-long tether to the medical profiteers for prescriptions for damaging cross-sex hormones. Being LGB requires no hormonal/surgical mutilation and fakery; have some courage and integrity to be a truly authentic whole and healthy LGB. Educate yourself about the pernicious, misogynist, homophobic 'trans' movement. Go to Women's Liberation Front, Reduxxdotinfo, LGB Alliance, LGB United, Gays Against Groomers, Lesbians United, FeministCurrentdotcom for some examples. Ask yourself why liberal Democrats, including LGBs, have sided w/ Republicans in getting 'transitioning' of minors outlawed in states where they have done so. And the indoctrination of minors into the 'trans' 'gender identity' nonsense in schools. A deluded, misogynist male crosss-dresser straight man in a dress and lipstick is not a woman and is no friend to LGBs. Stop the forced-teaming of the LGB w/ the TQ; they are not our allies. And using 'she' and 'her' for men is an insult to women. 'Gender identity' is in direct conflict w/ women's sex-based rights, we cannot defend what we cannot define.

Let me apologize from the beginning. I am new to this. So, can someone inform me as to why a lesbian did not portray Ann Lister in movie series? Please forgive if l am being inappropriate. But, I would love a response. Thank you.
