    • @stacyp4534

      Not totally but it did help. It floats. I made a mistake by putting the shocker hitch on my trailer. If you have a standard hitch it helps to keep the porpoise movement to a minimum. Before I installed the shocker hitch it did actually pull without the surges.

    Stacy, you mentioned that you broke the frame of your truck, what type of weights were you hauling and for how long? Also, did the failure have anything to do with the rear suspension modifications that you made for the air ride? Did you do any welding or or cutting in those areas? Reason I am asking is I am going to be running about 4500 pounds over weight pulling my 5th wheel camping trailer. Don't like the cost of the new trucks right now and I still like my 04 Dodge dually. I think I need to find Cad and Chassis or 3500 and look at and measure the frame rails to see what is currently on the market as a comparison. Bob

    • @stacyp4534
      @stacyp4534 Před rokem

      When I broke the frame I was hauling with the trailer about 36,000 pounds. Plus while doing the air ride modification I had welded to the frame on the bottom. That is exactly where the frame broke. It didn’t really break it ripped the frame kind of pealed it. It was too much weight combined with welding. The frame on those dodges is very capable.

      @@stacyp4534 Thanks for the reply. Its to bad that you lost this great ride. When I had read that you had modifies the suspension with the bags and four link, I kind of thought there might have been some welding involved. I know that when I bought the 04, there was a lot of chatter about Dodge not wanting you to do anything to the hydro formed frames, in fact they didn't want you to drill any holes. I know it is not going to be the best but I think that I will be OK at about 26,000 GVW. I am going do some more research to verify that there is a TCM to work with the 04 platform so I will be able to all the functions of the truck. Have to keep the wife happy if she need to drive the truck. I am looking to have the truck function as close to original as possible. I think there is someone by the name of Jason that has the programming down. I am looking to use a SAE #3 Allison transmission bell housing along with the Cummins adapter, allowing the use of the Dodge starter on the left side of the engine. I need to start looking for some old school bus's to locate these parts. I have the wacky idea of replacing my 5.9 with a Cummins 6.7 crate engine seeing that I done need to worry about EPA requirements. It would be much cheaper than replacing the truck with a current model. Did you upgrade the transmission with billet input and output shafts? Any problem with the flexplate? I know that you were pulling a lot of HP from your engine.

    • @sandipelczynski8003

      Stacy, I see that you had 3.73 gears. Did you do any pulling in the mountains with the Allison and 3.73's? I am running 4.10's and talking with Dually Depot in Elkhart Indiana, they thought that was 2 much gearing and the 3.73 would be better. With the HP and Torque you had, the 3.73 would have been no problem.

  • @sandipelczynski8003

    I know this might be a little late. Thanks for the information on your Allison swap. This video is giving the information that I have been looking for as far as RPM VS MPH. I am considering this swap for my 04 Dodge 3500 Dually with a 48 RE as I don't like the gap between 3rd gear and 4th. I am also starting to pull a 18,000 5th wheel trailer. My truck is running a Hypertech tune so the shifts can be a little hard under load. I am trying to run as much as I can with Tow/Haul off to keep the rpm's down and fuel mileageup . When the transmission drops out of 4th and the converter unlocks, it sounds and feels like the trans is going to come out of the truck. I am a little confused with the RPM vs MPH that you are running in the video. What is your rear end ratio? I am running a 4.10 gear. At approx. 60 mph, I am running about 1800 RPM and the only difference that I see is a .09 difference in the final drive ratio, .61 for the Allison vs .69 for the 48 RE. I don't think a 3.73 vs 4.10 would create a 20 MPH difference. Hope you see this and reply Thanks, Bob

    • @stacyp4534
      @stacyp4534 Před rokem

      Hi, the rear axle ratio on my dodge is 3.73. My son in law locked up the rear axle as the dodge axle carrier is made of cast iron and the spider gear pins wear grooves in the carrier then cause the rear axle to lock up. I put an old school Detroit locker in it with everything in the axle new.

    • @stacyp4534
      @stacyp4534 Před 2 lety

      In Arizona we are lucky. On trailers there’s only 2 registrations for trailers. Both have permanent tags. They are registered below 10,000 pounds GVW and the other is above 10,000 pounds GVW. We don’t have to worry about the stupidity like other states. All axles count that’s why in Arizona you see dump trucks with pusher axles added to old trucks that weren’t sold with them.
