Kumam Identity Crisis | KP Jaluo Abroad | Full Documentary
zhlédnutí 4,5KPřed měsícem
gofund.me/6e427562 Is Kumam Luo or Ateker? On this documentary, I run through this identity question in an attempt to resolve the mystery. Identity of the Kumam has for centuries been a mystery. The tribe's identity hangs in somewhere between the Luo and the Ateker. Most of the Kumam are not sure of the tribe's real identity. This documentary therefore puts an end to this identity crisis. #Luo ...

I'm currently working on a documentary on KUMAM. KUMAM is a luo group in Uganda around Lake Kyoga. They are currently struggling to figure out their real identity that lies between the Luo and the Ateker group and thus the documentary title KUMAM IDENTITY CRISIS. The full documentary will be up as soon as I'm done working on it.

    Stop this nonsense, when you say that the Luo of Uganda, you are insinuating that there is one monolithic tribe called Luo of Uganda, far from it. And stop it. You are belittling the distinctiveness of the proud Acholi, the Alur, the Langi, the Dhopadhola of Uganda. All are Luo but different. To find the truth, visit rural Acholi to witness the Rurakaraka or Digidigi dances and contrast these with Onyango swang of Kenya Nyanza. There is only one Luo of kenya, the Dholuo. In Uganda there are many Luos. if you care to doing a honest comparison, compare the Dholuo of Kenya and the Dhopadhola of Uganda, or the Dholuo of Kenya and the Alur of Uganda OK. For the Alur of Uganda and the Dholuo of Kenya, it is not only distance that distinguishes each from the other, but time between migrations, politics, economics etc, so much is lost in between. Do not dump the Acholi, the Alur, the Langi, etc into one grab bag, the Luo of Uganda. It is condescending.

    In dholuo, what you call "Chumbi"(Salt) is called "Kado" in Luo of Kenya. Growing up, we were told not to call it " Kado" but "ratuon" at night. "Chumbi" is derived from Swahili's "Chumvi" and it is not originally Luo. "Kado" as you have said it also means "Soup" in dholuo.

    The Luo say "Mera" to mean my mother, "merwa" to mean our mother, "megena" to mean my mothers and "megewa" to mean our mothers. Other versions of the mother are "Minwa" to mean my mother or our mother, "minena" to mean my mothers and "minewa" to mean our mothers. --- Luo Kenya

  • @henryodero9092
    @henryodero9092 Před 7 dny

    In luo, "mera" means my mother. That's how we get the word "nyar mera" or simply "nyamera" for my sister and "omera" for my brother. "Nyamera" simply means the daughter of my mother and "omera" the son of my mother. In modern language, many prefer to use "minwa" for my mother. Some people even get offended when you call them "Omera".

Opinion is also divided in whether they are Luo who adopted Bantu Culture or the other way round, or if they're an amalgam of the two.

Their real name is Jopaluo . They are very close to Acholi. They were part of the Luo migration and custodians of the Luo spiritual culture and traditional

    I really admire the great job you're doing and I hope one day you will put it all into a book or a series of books. Assimilation has got nothing to do with weakness of the assimilated tribe. The reasons for assimilation could be varied, as you have demonstrated. Among my Iteso people there is a clan called Ikomolo, literally translated as "Omolo's people. ' As a clan, there are many things that the Ikomolo clan do that are every un-Teso-like. Different totems and practices. However, there is no doubt as to their 'Tesoness.' It is said that they are remnants of the Jok Omolo sub group of Luo as they immigrated into Kenya and Tanzania, who stayed behind and adopted Teso culture.
