    Oginga Odinga started efforts to unite the Luo diaspora by expanding branches of Luo Union to Tanganyika, Uganda, Congo DRC with future plans for CAR ,Chad, Ethiopia/Eritrea and Lower Egypt/Sudan . By 1957 he had become the Luo Ker(leader) and would relinquish the post to Joel Omer after he became Kenya VP in 1963 following independence .

      Luo Union had come of age and had branches in Kampala in Uganda , Mwanza in Tanzania, Zanzibar and Kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa Kenya . In 1957 Luo Union Mwanza branch formed Luo Union FC . The team was supported by Kenyan Luos in Tanzania and Tanzania Luos .

      After Kenya’s independence the supporters of Luo Union FC from Mwanza of Kenyan Origin relocated to Nairobi and started the Luo Union Nairobi Branch .

      Luo-Union fc later became Re-Union or Re-Ajwang .
      In 1963 Luo-Union was number 2 in the 1st Kenyan League behind Nakuru All Stars and by 1964 they were number 1 .
      In 1965 they were 2nd behind Feisal of Mombasa who won the league .

      In 1966 at the height of disagreements between Jomo Kenyatta and Oginga Odinga ,Tom Mboya would break ranks with Jaramogi in Support of Jomo Kenyatta . Tom Mboya was only in his 30’s and close friends with US Civil Rights Leaders Dr Martin Luther King, Ralph Abernathy , Harry Belafonte . In 1963 Tom Mboya was a keynote speaker in the March in Washington alongside Dr King .

      He had a cosmopolitan multiethnic following with rumors of future presidential ambitions . Kenya’s Independence constitution particularly on racial integration would be partly written by first black US Chief Justice Thurghood Marshall who was close friends with the nationalists including Tom Mboya .

    Wow! thats amazing first time hearing and understanding some of the words of the Luo of Tanzania.
    The accent sounds like a mixer of the chollo (Shilluk) and Dha Anywaa of South Sudan/Ethiopia.

      Luo of Tanzania and luo of Kenya are actually a single group separated by a border. Same dialect, same accent.

    That elder is knowledgeable and wise , he should work very hard to unite all Luo community of TZ. He should also cross to Kenya and talk to Kenyan elder about unity of all Luo Nation of East Africa so as to form a very strong Nation. Thank you Mr. Kogot. This is impeccable job. Keep it up.

    Good work KP travels. This people of rorya district tz were also deprived off their political rights in 2020 elections. Kindly, ask them about the attack by police at the home of chadema aspirant hon. Ezekiel wenje dibogo

    In 1966 Kenya VP Oginga Odinga resigned from government . He was a key supporter and financier of Luo Union Nairobi . Luo Union FC would split into Luo Union and Luo Sports Club . Luo Union was sympathetic to Oginga Odinga while Luo Sports Club was sympathetic to Tom Mboya . By 1967 Luo Union FC was dropped from the league due to political interference . Luo Sports club was retained courtesy of Tom Mboya .

      Luo Union players such as Chege Ouma ,James Siang’a and Joseph Okello would form Kisumu Hot Stars and would travel between Nairobi , Kisumu for fixtures . Afc leopards had not won the league since its formation in 1964 but due to the challenges facing Luo Union Abaluhya won in 1966 and 1967 . Tom Mboya was approached to Unite Luo Union FC , Luo Sports Club and Kisumu Hot Stars .

      Gor Mahia would then be formed in 1968 as a result of Tom Mboya’s intervention .Tom Mboya would be assassinated in 1969 . This event marked a turning point in the unity of the Luo groups in Kenya . By 1971 Kenya Airforce Fredrick Collins Omondi Oyoo had plotted a coup against Jomo Kenyatta with the help of Kenya Airforce Joseph Daniel Owino from Lanet Barracks Nakuru . Daniel Owino was also behind a 1964 military Mutiny .

      Jomo Kenyatta died in 1978 and Daniel Moi took over and by 1980 had banned names associated with ethnic groups . Luo Union became RE-UNION and relapsed . Abaluhya became AFC leopards and Gor Mahia stayed Gor Mahia after the intervention of Dr Robert Ouko who explained to Daniel Moi that Gor Mahia was a legend and not an ethnic group hence Gor Sirkal(government) . By 1981 Kenya Airforce Private Hezekiah Ochuka Raballa ,Ogidi Obuon, Walter Odira Ojode etc staged a coup against Daniel Moi .

      By 1987 Gor had won the continental Mandela cup against Esperance of Tunisia unbeaten with Peter Dawo as the top scorer . He was ranked 19th in Africa footballer of the year 1988 .The Kenya National League unbeaten and the Moi Golden cup beating AFC Leopards in the final 2-0 . Also in the fourth All Africa games they provided 9 players to the team that reached the final against Egypt including David Ochieng Kamoga ,Abbas Khamis Magongo ,George Fundi Onyango ,Sammy Onyango Jogoo ,John Bobby Ogolla ,George Nyangi Odembo, Austin Oduor captain and later Peter Dawo .
