    My maternal grandmother spoke this dialect in Alego, Siaya, Kenya. I could never understand her entirely and I kept interrupting her to explain what she meant. Speakers of this dialect in Siaya are getting fewer and fewer.

      In Uganda, the closest dialect to Dhupadhola is Dhu'Alur. The Siaya Dhuluo is almost the same as Dhupadhola

    I am impressed by this practical history of Luo Padhola , consider his suggestion of Luo nation conference one day. Otherwise thanks Mr Kogot for your efforts to trail the Luo roots and make it public. We are now aware of Luo Tree branches and how they come about.

      @@balalaalfarooqI think what I meant was that the Chope language just as that of the Padhola is close to the dholuo spoken in Kenya. If your question is about the closeness of their lineage, then that's another matter worthy of research. But I can tell you this: my clan in Kenya is known as Kanyakwar. The Padhola of Uganda are closer to us than most of the Kenyan Luo clans we neighbour .The Nyakwar are the descendants of Owiny who was Adhola's younger brother.

    KP you could have complicated the question a little by asking, what if the father is not the blood father of the boy? luos keep children whose mother came with as a secret, until when the customs assiciated with the first born come into play eg. that building of simba or go dala.

    The largest population of Kenya Luo in Uganda is in Pakwach . During the East Africa community some Luo of Kenya moved to Uganda for work and some Luo of Kenya moved to Tanganyika Mwanza for work and also in the sisal farms .

      A famous Gor Mahia midfielder Tim Ayieko moved with his family to Uganda and represented Uganda Cranes . His parents worked and lived in Kampala . During the reign of Idi Amin they moved back to Kenya where he signed up for Gor Mahia and played alongside another Ugandan Abbey Nassur , a Nuba . The Nubians and Luo have historical ties from Sudan ,Uganda and Kenya . In Kenya they are also found in Kisumu and Kendu Bay .

      Uganda cranes has been coached by Luo such as Tim Ayieko ,Polly Ouma and David Otti . Also Tim Ayieko's brother Phillip Omondi played for the cranes . There is a famous Uganda/Kenya Journalist called CHARLES ONYANGO-OBBO who is LUO-JOPADHOLA and has been critical of YOWERI MUSEVENI'S REGIME .

      My father hailed from Siaya and my mother is a Tanzanian Luo. I was born in Dar es Salaam and I still have my Tanzanian birth certificate there are times I have contemplated taking Tanzanian citizenship, and some Tanzanian officials have encouraged it, since I'm in a sought after profession. My father worked with the first EAC.

      @@snownfire Tanzania allows residency but not dual citizenship . You can apply for residency with your birth certificate . If you acquire your Tanzania citizenship as constituted you might have to lose your current citizenship . Not sure about future plans .

    The Luo assimilated different groups including the Bantu Suba who migrated from present day Uganda to present day Kenya ,Tanzania and were assimilated by Kenya Luo(Obama,Lupita Nyongo group)hence the Luo-Suba .
    The Luo Jo-bito clan replaced the Bachwezi dynasty of Bunyoro Kitara setting the stage for one of the most successful dynasties in present day Uganda the Luo-Babito . The Luo had skilled warriors like Owiny and Adhola who steered their settlements in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania .

      The Banyarwanda ancient kingdom organization bear similarities to the Nilotic Luo-Shilluk Kingdom established in Sudan/Lower Egypt in 1490 and the Nilotic Luo-Anywaa/Anuak Kingdom established in 2200 BC in Sudan/Ethiopia . The Anywaa defeated the British forces in Ethiopia Gambella in 1912 .

      In present day Uganda in the 16th century the Southward moving Nilotic Luo-Babito dynasty from Sudan/Lower Egypt replaced the Bantu Bachwezi empire in Bunyoro Kitara and also contributed to the Kingship in Buganda . The Luo-Babito dynasty would last for at least 500 years and contributed to the movement of Banyarwanda tutsi pastoralists to present day Rwanda .
      US president Theodore Roosevelt , a game hunter and plant enthusiast travelled to Buganda in 1909 and found an egalitarian system of Organization in the Buganda Kingdom with influences from Luo-Babito dynasty that shaped the course of US democracy .

      @@KPtravels001 I believe they both originally migrated from Egypt. There are other Nilotic tribes in Northern Nigeria/Northern Cameroon like the Hausa and Kanuri. Many of them migrated from Nubia or the Kanem bornu empire.
      Even myself I am originally from Eritrea and my tribe is Cushitic, but we have Nilotic tribes here too, like the Kunama and Nara. Many of us in Eritrea have relations with ancient Nubia. The kingdom of Aksum and the Beja kingdoms of Eritrea bordered Nubia.

    In Uganda pockets of slavery existed among the Bantu Bachwezi rulers of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and Bantu Buganda .
    Unlike Nomadic Nilotic cattle keepers the Bantu practice farming and therefore white slave traders see this as a premium like the rice farmers captured from Sierra Leone and Guinea for North and South Carolina rice farms hence the Gullah Geechee .

      The Luo invasion of Bunyoro Kitara in the 14th and 15th century effectively ended any forms of slavery or slave trade in Uganda .
      The Luo are diasporic(at least 20+ million Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, DRC Congo, Sudan/Lower Egypt, Ethiopia Gambella/Eritrea ,Chad, Central Africa Republic) and like other Nilotic groups such as Dinka and Nuer resisted the advancement of Arab slavery in ancient and modern times .

      The Luo-Babito rulers would then rule over Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom for 400 to 500 years until 1967 when it was stopped by the Uganda government under and later by Idi Amin in 1971 .
      The Luo also provided ruler-ship for the Buganda Kingdom . President Theodore Roosevelt would then Visit Buganda in 1909 and was impressed by the egalitarian and democratic social organization among the Buganda Kingdom which he presented to US Congress and UK house of commons for emulation .
      Bunyoro Kitara under Luo-Babito stopped the spread of slavery into Uganda and resisted British Colonialism in Modern times .
