Learning to Tow Foil Surf
The rider in this video came to see us for 3 days. His foundation in foiling was wind-based. He had been wing foiling for several years but had never had the chance to tow foil with the right equipment or conditions.
Right from day 1, he was riding waves and having a blast. With daily video reviews of his riding and professional 1 on 1 coaching on the water, he was able to keep progressing and improving his riding.
By the 3rd day he was ripping. Riding with confidence and having a blast!

Holding the board under water with your legs seems really hard. I just have the foil on it's side, hold the rope with one hand, and one on the board with the knees bent. Then when boat gives the initial pull, I just grab the rope with the other hand and twist the board toward the boat.
Yes, that sounds like good advice if you’re riding a high volume board that’s hard to sink.
@@BackcountryFoilSurfing I've been using 21L board for kiting, I wouldn't call that high volume. I'll have to try your method behind a boat! I'm going to guess it's less efficient.

How long is the tow rope in this scenario, behind a power boat (Tige/Mastercraft with no ballast) ?
If you're still learning to get up I would suggest approximately 70 feet. Getting away from the prop wash will help make things a little easier for beginners.

Looks like an awesome trip. How long is the trek to get to the spot where you tow foil? What are the best months to go?
It’s a legendary experience. Our guests fly into San Jose airport. From there it’s a 2 Hour drive to the first waves located just south of Jaco. After your first two days of riding, we head outbound into the Backcountry for the following three days. It takes a little over four hours to get there, so we spend a few nights out there before returning to civilization.
