Day #1 was largely focused on safety, and getting comfortable. After Day one the rider typically has their equipment tuned in and knows what to expect with respect to wave size and environment.
After day one our riders have also gotten some basic instruction and have the advantage of seeing themselves on video and doing some video analysis of their riding. So day the ride is already prepared to begin making adjustments to their riding and improving their game.
One of the most typical mistakes made by beginner riders is getting too far in front of the wave. Riders will drop into the wave and bomb straight out in front of the wave rather than traversing the wave or laying in a bottom turn that allow them to get back in the pocket.
If you compare video from Day one to day two you can see the rider is already doing a much better job of saying in the pocket and riding the wave rather than allowing himself to get too far out in front the the wave
