Its obvious that Kalani being 'hands off' with recruiting works some places and doesnt work others. He needs to be stepping in to the weak spots and taking over so he can see what is going on. Everyone talks about how lovable Kalani is. How is he not using that charisma and camping in these DLinemens homes winning their Moms and Dads over? These problems were evident LAST YEAR. To be 'whiffing' on DLine recruits we're chasing? Wow.... Utah is 10 deep in DLine and some of their rejects will shluff off over the next year or two. Thats not a good strategy however...

The one thing I’ll add, based on the last section of the podcast, is the question of is it better to have guys develop in the program riding the bench or get meaningful minutes at other programs and transfer in with that experience under their belt? I will answer with transfer in because we’ll already know they can compete significantly at the college level (cause obviously that’s why we’d be bringing them in 😂), much less of a guessing game/risk for us (they can handle the mental pressure at the college level), and they can be redshirted, simply begin to get time in the 2 or 3 deep to learn the system and build chemistry, or be like a Darius Lassiter (immediately making an impact from the transfer portal). Development will always need to be foundational for BYU with freshman on up but, with all these massive changes they are experiencing, BYU will need to be more aggressive and be in a dog fight every offseason if we want to see another national championship for our Cougs!

Can we please stop with the "Kalani is a defensive genius" stuff already ? At Utah he and his cohorts ran KYLES defense. If you want to check that just look how Kalani's defenses ran after he left for Oregon State.........

Should Jay Hill be on the hot seat? Oh wait, he should be head coach!

Um yeah thos is a huge problem. If I'm BYU I go back to the old model of running a 3/4 and get bug guys on the d line to eat up bodies and free up the LBs to get the QB pressures. BYU has never struggled to recruit great LBs but they can't seem to land the guys that make a 4/3 scheme viable.

Po'uha needs to go or Hill's job should be in jeopardy.

The honeymoon is over for Jay Hill. The 1 million dollar man. Hill was hired because he was supposed to be a great recruiter. I have not seen it frankly. The success of the defense starts with the Defensive line. To date, D line recruiting has been a massive fail. BYU will not win games without a stout defense.

Jake, you're absolutely correct about the huge concern for Defensive Tackles. Yesterday Jeff Hansen ranked position coaches as recruiters and had Sione Po'uha rated last. This is a position group that at least in the short-term needs to overpay relative to market with NIL$.

BYU has brought in 2 guys in the last 18 months one of which Danny was the answer and he left. First let me say that I’m like you in that I’m such a Cougar fan, my blood is blue! Additionally, I really enjoy your Podcast. Well done! Having a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and a Master’s degree in broadcasting, I think I noticed something in today’s show. You are an enthusiastic guy for sure and sometimes that enthusiasm leads you to speak very fast. However, today it seems you made a concentrated effort to speak a.little slower and more deliberately. If so, I like it and was much more able to follow your thoughts as you shared them. I’ve been a true, blue Cougar fan for much longer than you’ve been alive and I do listen to you every day because of your enthusiasm and knowledge. At 83 I only have so many games left over the next few years, so “Go Cougs!”

The only problem about Martin, he is NOT a power RB and fast takes off…Hinckley Robati is an explosive powerful RB, and he cuts and makes tackles missed. He can play down field so well also. Robati is RB1 if he can stay healthy.

As a long time BYU fan I don't want Kyle Whittingham to retire. I understand that Morgan is going to be an amazing coach but there's definitely going to be challenges and some ups and downs transitioning. When Utah is on top it makes BYU better and that's good for college football. I want Utah to continue dominance. I want BYU to become dominant. When BYU and UTAH are dominant it's not only good for the BIG 12 it's good for college football!!!!

Jake, Awsten Turnbow from Desert Hills just completed his mission and is looking forward to playing at BYU. He is a top safety but also is beefing up to potentially play Linebacker. Served in Guatemala and had issues with the food and water but upon his return is recovering well. 6’1” 200 plus and moving upward he will be a great asset next season along with his brother Braxton who is currently playing at SUU.
