    Jake, you're absolutely correct about the huge concern for Defensive Tackles. Yesterday Jeff Hansen ranked position coaches as recruiters and had Sione Po'uha rated last. This is a position group that at least in the short-term needs to overpay relative to market with NIL$.

    Jake you pretty much nailed it. Subpar defense tackles are not going to get it done but I agree someone needs to step up 🎉

    As a true Utah fan but I think they need lift up the honor code a little bit

    @brettallen1440 Před měsícem +2

    Um yeah thos is a huge problem. If I'm BYU I go back to the old model of running a 3/4 and get bug guys on the d line to eat up bodies and free up the LBs to get the QB pressures. BYU has never struggled to recruit great LBs but they can't seem to land the guys that make a 4/3 scheme viable.

      We consistently underperformed with a 3-4. The only way that works is if the "3" are exceptional, along with the linebackers. The only solution here is to get better and deeper on the D Line

      This works against in the MWC and Conference USA. Not the Big 12.

    • @brettallen1440
      @brettallen1440 Před měsícem

      @malaw514 That's a gross over characterization. Look at BYU historically, the best BYU defenses have run a 3-4.

    • @brettallen1440
      @brettallen1440 Před měsícem

      @KevinSmith-qg6uz yes, in Broncos final years that was true. But BYU history says otherwise. And I'll point out that many NFL teams run the 3-4 (or a combo). To pretend that a team can't be successful without running a 4-3 is simply wrong.

      @@brettallen1440 I stand by my point and I think you are making it with the NFL comparison : the 3-4 can work IF you have a solid 3 d lineman who can hold their own. At times BYU has had enough to compete, but against good competition in the last decade they have not. Either alignment requires better lineman than we have had of late

    Jake is Absolutely right! 3 things:
    1. Player development
    2. Culture
    3. NIL
    BYU needs to start doing these three things. Other wise they’re going to get killed in the Big12. BYU has brought in 2 guys in the last 18 months one of which Danny was the answer and he left.
    Utah has mastered these three area which is why they’re one of the top defenses in the country and winning in state recruiting.
    Cmon Cougs!!!
