If my memory is correct, Star Valley High School has played Sugar-Salem four times and Sugar has won 2 games and Star Valley has won two games. I do remember hearing the Shumway name when I went to the game in Afton. Star Valley did win that game.
Just from watching his film, the guy can play. His strength is his ability to handle an IOL. He's a tough young man who hopefully will end up inside at the 3 or 4-I. Good get for Cougs!
I love all the Retzlaff homers. I like Retzlaff and will give him the same excuse as I gave Slovis. The O-LINE SUCKED and the RUNNING GAME was Non-EXISTENT. However....Retzlaff had GOOD O-Line and Running Back play in the OK and OKST games and still couldn't pull it out. Admittedly? He turned the ball over far too much and for some reason ARod and Kalani's promises of 'accountability' never materialized. Like it or not? Slovis could have played both the OK and OKST games but to save face the Blue Goggle Media has buried that fact under a 'Slovis was injured' all the while he was standing on the sidelines in full pads calling in the plays to Retzlaff all 4 games he did not play. And there is the little fact that Kalani said that Slovis was good to play on his show the week of the OK game. You can only separate the Blue Propaganda from Truth for so long. And lets 'once again' put the TRUTH out there. Gerry Bohanon won a BIG12 Championship. Gerry Bohanon Won the Sugar Bowl that year against Ole' Miss. Gerry Bohanon beat BYU that same year in a head to head match up with Jaren Hall. Gerry Bohanon played for Coach Jeff Grimes who had come straight from BYU and who ran an almost identical system. I heard from BYU Coaches as well as Grimes that the Biggest difference between Baylors and BYU's Offense System was terminology. And I'll refer to it a 10th time. Grimes gave an interview on Bohanon when he chose to come to BYU. In that interview Grimes made it very clear that He vehemently disagreed with Aranda's decision to replace Bohanon at the end of the season with Shapen. It showed the riffed between Aranda and Grimes. Grimes touted Bohanon as an exceptional Leader and an elite duel threat talent. Frankly? I'll take Coach Grimes opinion over ARod's everyday of the week after watching ARod completely botch the last two games of last season.... All that being said. We have a QB on the team that KNOWS FIRST HAND what it takes to win a B12 Championship and our Blue Goggle media is hell bent on going with the 0-4 guy.... Tell me that THAT makes sense....
Sarkisian took BYU farther than any other QB not named Bosco. Sarkisian didn't lead the nation in NJCAA, and his numbers don't even come close to Retzlaf. Retzlaf even beat his second school Riverside, who was National powerhouse with far inferior team. No other BYU QB faced 4 power 5 teams...let alone 2 top 20 and his FIRST four. Retzlaf kept them in games. D line is who gave up 6 TDs to the Oklahoma State RB, not Retzlaf.
Gary Bohanon is the real deal Fact is, we have 4 QBs capable of leading this team...and others on bench developing. I think we need both Retzlaf and Bohanon on the field at same time. Bohanon likely good enough runner to be RB 1 or 2, and can throw. This offense is extremely loaded. Stay healthy and they will be unstoppable. Defensive Line needs to step up

Fact of the matter is, in spring ball, even in the full pads practices, is the Defense allowed to tackle or even touch the QB? No? There isn't a 300 pound Samoan bearing down on him at 4.7/40 speed causing a bit of anxiety? No? I don't put much creedance in Retzlaff not throwing a Pick in the Spring. There is no pressure other than performance in Spring Ball. Hopefully he is working every waking minute with John Beck. The other reason I like G-Bo to start is that in 2021 BYU went 5-0 against the PAC12. 5 wins which includes a win over a Utah team which Coach Whittingham said was one of the best teams he had ever had. Jaren Hall was having a good season even playing injured. He wasn't injured during the Baylor game. And Gerry Bohanon beat a great BYU team quite handily. Handily enough to go on and win a BIG 12 Championship. I watch all the fawning and slobbering going on when it comes to Cam Rising at Utah. Cam Rising missed last season just like Bohanon. Both have Conference Championships under their belts. One guy is projected to lead his team to a B12 Conference Championship and the other guy can't get any recognition from the Blue Goggle media. What I thought was absolutely great? Jake Hatch simulates BYU's season with the 2024 season EA College Football game and the GAME is smart enough to understand WHICH QB should be starting....
People need to understand that you can't throw a new QB into his first Power 5 games and expect him to just win. Especially when the O-Line and running game were struggling hard. Growing pains and learning from mistakes is how you get good QBs. Let them fight it out. But don't count out a guy who almost beat two ranked P5 teams in his 3rd and 4th career start at the P5 level
If chosen, he will not be replaced until he Leeds BYU to a weak win in game 1 followed by losses in week 2 & 3. Destroying the 2024 season. Retzlaff will seize defeat from victory by making more TD passes for the other team than for BYU.

Retzlaf did have turnovers....but zero in Spring. He has made much progress. Having 3 more QBs will be good for all of them...we have 4 capable QBs.
