"We love ya'all!" "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." This is what members of any faith or no faith should be able to expect from the true sheep of Christ. Sadly, it is often not so. So thanks for that. We love you right back!

It is The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints. That has been the name of the church since April of 1838. The name was given by Christ Himself to the church. The reason the true name is being re-emphasized today is because other names leave out the name of The Lord and that is not pleasing to Him. Mormon was a great man, but it is not his church. The Latter-Day Saints is just another name for the members, but it is not our church.

LDS convert in the UK here. CZcams just put this on my feed. It's so refreshing to hear Evangelical Christians speak kindly of us. Thanks 👍
I think someone else has already answered the question about why we don't refer to ourselves as Mormons. But very simply, our Prophet challenged the worldwide membership a few years back to refer to the full name of the church in our dialogue and interactions with others. Whilst we believe in both the Book of Mormon and the Bible, people really need to know that ultimately we believe in and follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ 🙂

So many people think that we aren't Christians because of our nicknames (The full name being The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). Mormon is the name of an ancient prophet who compiled and abridged a book of spiritual and historical records which became known as The Book of Mormon after it was translated by a modern prophet Joseph Smith. The subtitle on The Book of Mormon is literally "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" so when people call us Mormons or LDS I find it a little sad because one of the foremost principals of our gospel is being Disciples of Jesus Christ (plus our prophet has asked us to not remove the name of our Savior when we speak of the church and ourselves).
Thank you for just asking questions and being open to learning more, I just stumbled upon this video but it was great! Thank you!

Most of us don't mind "mormon" as a term, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the most accurate. That has always been the case, but we've been more insistent on using the proper name. I think this is because we at least, believe we follow Jesus, and we believe His church should be called in His name. It's a bit of a mouthful, though.
You seem like great people. Most of us don't mind push back on our religion or beliefs either. I'm grateful when other people are concerned for my soul, truly.

    Hi Alex and Ashley,
As a born and raised member of the Mormon/LDS church all my life in the OKC area, I appreciate your great love for others and for business/prosperity. I take interest in business aspects with an emphasis on faith and purpose.
I am an open book and have heard most every argument or question about my faith. So nothing offends me when asked in good nature to simply understand more of my relationship with God.
I’ll share this: growing up in OK I referred to many of my friends as “Indians”. At one point my HS coach asked us to not say “Indian” but instead “Native American” when around his wife. At first I thought it was odd and thought she’s just being too anal. I can relate to her now as our President Russell M. Nelson asked media and others to please reference us/the church other than Mormon.
The label “Indian” (India) really has nothing to do with Native Americans- a mistaken identity. It’s not quite the same but the word Mormon doesn’t truly represent who we actually are. I mean it was a guy’s name back in ancient days. It’s not an offense to refer to Mormon but yes Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or “members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints even reminds myself of who I represent.
I’d love to support you both in the cause for bridging our gaps for understanding and find commonalities to further Christian values in our communities. I’m not too far from north Texas and would be happy to learn from you as well. No egg shells around me. I can even make fun of my own thoughts beliefs but for me I know them to be true and it’s a joy to share as well as learn more from others.
    Thank you, Jason

We are members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST, not the church of the prophet Mormon or the book he compiled. Additionally, in the 1800s when we were being persecuted, our enemies called us Mormons as a derogatory term. I think we tried to reclaim it for a few generations and make it more positive. I think nowadays it is descriptive of culture but not religion.

@@cornfedlifeWell our "false" Prophets fulfill prophecies Jesus Christ himself gave as signs of his true followers that no other religious leaders on earth are. Namely "Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake." and "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." If your leaders don't have all manner of evil spoken falsely against them, only when they are caught embezzling church funds or sleeping with someone else's wife etc., then you have to wonder why Satan doesn't care what they teach or do. The Pew Poll has shown that while members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints loves members of other churches more than they love each other, they are the most hated by all other religions across the board. Truly members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints love their enemies, and bless those who curse them, and do good to those that hate them, and pray for those who persecute them and despitefully use them, just like Jesus Christ said to do.

This sort of humility is a rare occurance from personal experience. Thank you for living this Christ-like attribute. I know it's been 6 days at this point, and others have explained, but yes, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" is the full and proper name. What you might not know is, with a Modern-day Prophet and Apostles, the Church is a very living thing. So, despite being able to find many wonderful talks and things embracing the nickname "Mormon", the Lord has found it expedient (fit for a purpose), that we embrace and properly utilize the Full-and-Proper name for the Church. From personal experiences, I've found that as I follow the Lord's guidance through a Modern-day Prophet, I receive blessings.

We really love taking notes from other believers as well. So many great things to appreciate from all the various churches. But we're all of the Church of Christ. We love Him and want to follow Him and build the kingdom together.
Also, it's not so much that "Mormon" is so bad. It was used in a derogatory way originally, but Mormon is a prophet from the Book of Mormon (one of the two--- him & his father--- that summarized the many records from all the prophet records in the Americas they kept) and we don't see any need to take his name, as honorable of a man as he was.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the most accurate term. Because it's a mouthful, people revert LDS short for Latter day Saint (even though technically thats still not perfect though it is a step closer in our minds) The reasoning behind this preference away from Mormon is because our prophet Russell M. Nelson instructed us about 5 years ago to remember the name of our Church having Jesus Christ in it. "Mormon" was always a 3rd party term that was used by those who only knew us by the special Book we had, The Book of Mormon and it inadvertently took our name away from the name of Jesus Christ over time. We are trying to repent from that as well. Appreciate your apology, though to be honest I don't know what it was for.

The term "Mormon" was used derogatorily starting back around the 1830's by some who were antagonistic. It did quickly become somewhat accepted by the actual membership as an okay nickname. Kind of like, "If you're going to keep calling us that in a mean way well then we'll accept it to a degree so that us calling ourselves that or you calling us that is actually okay." And all of that is... okay. Even in all the time from roughly 1830 to 2019 there were admonitions expressed to remember that it's just a nickname and that more importantly we look to Jesus Christ. In 2019 President Nelson especially emphasized that we should really give less attention to the nickname now and really focus on the name of the Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
My actual first name is Christian and I did have times growing up where people asked me why that would be my name if I was a "Mormon," so I know confusion has occurred.

(Even if it seems a bit long 😉)Our current prophet made the prophetic announcement a handful of years ago that we needed to be known as Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, on the most basic level of simply because Jesus Christ is who we worship and serve and seek to emulate and follow and take his name upon us. It is only by and through him and the miracle of hus atoning sacrifice that we can be saved and he is our advocate with The Father. And being known as the Mormons just simply didn’t make much sense to be honest. We don’t worship Mormon, even though we are grateful to him for the Book in which we study and is certainly a very important historical leader to us - but the whole context of The Book of Mormon is to along with the Bible -testify of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The history of the his appearance to the ancient peoples of The Americas

THANK YOU! This is so refreshing … Jesus has changed me and my life… I need Him, I love Him; He is my Savior & Redeemer. it’s hard when other Christians adamantly tell me that I’m going to hell, that I’m not a Christian & proceed to tell me things about my beliefs that aren’t true, dismissing me when I try to tell them what we really believe. I’m never sure when I meet other Christians if they’re going to be kind or hateful when they find out what church I’m a member of. I’ve encountered both.
FYI, abt our name, the real name of the church has been Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day-Saints from its beginning in the 1800s. “Mormon” was a nickname given to us by ppl who persecuted and even killed us in the 1800s (it was actually legal to kill members of our faith in Missouri until 1978, I think… “the Mormon extermination act.” It was meant to be derogatory. For a long while, we just gave into the nickname, but in doing so, others concluded we worship Mormon instead of Jesus Christ, even ppl who aren’t persecutory, but just know nothing of our beliefs. This is a time in history, more than any other, that ppl need to come to Christ, whatever the faith. Consequently, it’s important that ppl know our real name and associate us with our true beliefs and love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Hi! The reason we prefer to be called Latter-Day Saints, is because we don't want people to think that we worship Mormon. We worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That is why the name of the church is the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so when talking about the Church, we like to at least say the church of Jesus Christ, that way we don't leave out his name. When referring to the members we are happy to be called latter-day saints. Saints because that was a word used in Psalms and the New testament to refer to believers of Christ. Latter-day, because we believe we are in the last days. Hope that helps.

Your sincere humility is so touching ❤️ We're used to being picked on but strive to be Christlike in all our interactions.
"Mormons" was a nickname given to church members in Joseph Smith's time by those who weren't friendly to our new developing religion. It came from the Book of Mormon. Mormon is actually the name of a prophet in the book. He was in charge of compiling all the different accounts and stories (from the time they left Jerusalem to hundreds of years later) from different prophets in the Book of Mormon, so it got his name. The nickname was used so much that the church ended up adopting it got in the habit of calling themselves Mormons, even though we have always been The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A few years ago our current prophet said we should stop referring to ourselves as "Mormons" because it takes away from the true mission and name of our church--Jesus Christ's church. We believe Joseph Smith restored Jesus Christ's true church on the earth and that when Jesus Christ comes back to reign on the earth, we will not be handing over "The Mormon church" but the church of JESUS CHRIST. Hope this explanation helps! ❤️

I thank you for your apology, but I also realize it doesn't change your sincere view that we LDS hold Satanic beliefs and worship a "different Jesus". I have heard the same representations about our beliefs that you referenced on the list you read from. Some of them were misrepresentations or falsehoods about our beliefs. Other lack context. You didn't take the time to research why or how we hold some of the beliefs we do. You seemed to accept those representations on the list as true, without question or further investigation.
I'd like to address the first subject on your list that "Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers." by sharing with you an explanation and the proper context through a video made by a former evangelical, now current Mormon, Jennifer Roach. She addresses both the evangelical and Mormon views of this matter. Her video can be viewed here: czcams.com/video/bXK3Ci3dgfc/video.htmlsi=lp7t9vNPdns5q9JK&t=2 it's about 24 minutes.

The Pew Poll shows that the "Mormons" are generally the least loved of all religions by all religions, while loving all religions more than they love each other.

When people come onto your podcast be sure to avoid the tough questions. The truth isn’t something most LDS members are honestly ready for. And to be honest (having been raised in the church) the Jesus of the LDS religion is very, very different from the Jesus of basically every other Christian denomination (this is due to Joseph Smith’s beliefs - and you should definitely not ask about Joseph Smith’s life or history, etc). So be sure to clarify the differences before you agree you’re talking about the same thing.

This comment is exactly the problem if you can't answer the tough question then there are 2 possibilities it's not been revealed yet as the restoration continues until Christ's return, or more learning is to be had it's likely someone knows the answer but you need to be ready to listen to it?

That's correct, the real relationship between God, Jesus and the holy ghost as found in the old and new testaments is not congruent with the creeds to which the "Christians" cling to. That's why God called the creeds an abomination.

As for the life and history of Joseph Smith Jr., when you vet the sources, taking firsthand accounts and rejecting hostile second and third hand accounts, Joseph Smith Jr. comes out looking really good. But it's no surprise so much evil has been said about him, Jesus Christ said of his true followers that all manner of evil would be said about them falsely. Satan fights hardest against his greatest threat.

Do you also use people's preferred pronouns when they are obviously not correct? Mormons are NOT "Saints", latter day or otherwise, regardless of what they call themselves.

@@bartonbagnes4605 it don’t see it as saintly to deceive. I’ve watched many testimonies of people who have left the Mormon church, including high priests and the common thread that I’ve noticed in all of their testimonies is the deceit that goes on within the LDS church. It makes sense that deceit is a big issue since you are following a man who was known for being deceitful. I challenge you to read the actual Word of God, and it will open your eyes to all of the lies of the book of Mormon. I don’t think that the average Mormon intends to be deceitful, but I do think that the majority of the leaders of the church do it intentionally to further their own means. There’s a CZcams channel called DeLaFe and they just produced two powerful testimonies of a former high priest and his wife, a former BYU professor. I dare you to watch them. They had my wife and I crying. Such beautiful stories about them finding the true Jesus!

Honestly they changed the name from Mormon to LDS or Latter Day Saints because of the fact that the church did some polls a while back and realized that the name had garnered negative connotations. So in order to fool others they changed it. It worked. Mormon/LDS it’s all the same ideology with a different name. It is a church I was raised in the heart of. It was raised up by a man (Joseph Smith,) who happened to be a child SA’er and a polygamist. In the upper echelons of their society they still believe these things are okay. (The general mormons don’t know this,) People who have grown up and left know more truth about the church than the members attending because the church is adamant that no other material other than church/church approved material be read/used by members.
The church owes its members an apology for lying to them, covering up all sorts of abuse, and not using the tithing money it collects from every member for its intended purpose.

@@KingdomBusinessFellowshipNot a word of what he said is true. About 40% of those who leave come back when with better research they learn these things he says aren't true. Jesus Christ himself said of his true followers "Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake." and "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, AND SAY ALL MANNER OF EVIL AGAINST YOU FALSELY, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." Satan fights hardest against his greatest threats.

@thoughtfulfaith2020 Jacob Hansen is somebody I respect in the CZcams space, he is your everyday Latter-day Saint and does a good job of explaining doctrine and practices in simple ways.
Also not sure if you said this but I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, I want to be your friend.

The term "Mormon" was used derogatorily starting back around the 1830's by some who were antagonistic. It did quickly become somewhat accepted by the actual membership as an okay nickname. Kind of like, "If you're going to keep calling us that in a mean way well then we'll accept it to a degree so that us calling ourselves that or you calling us that is actually okay." And all of that is... okay. Even in all the time from roughly 1830 to 2019 there were admonitiobs expressed to remember that it's just a nickname and that more importantly we look to Jesus Christ.
You may have already found someone to speak with but I'll express a willingness to speak with you too on this.
    Thank you!
