In this video I will be trying out some Evapo-Rust to remove rust from the gas tank with a dent on my 1972 Yamaha LT2 and also try to get it to fire. It's missing the reed valve assembly so it may not fire.

I just got myself one of these to try to tackle removing 47 year old OE JD 214 tires. Wish me luck, the tire spoons I've used on other things just made me sweat!
You could use a float bowl without all those protrusions .....no?
That's a good idea but I probably won't find one to fit the carb. I might try a thicker spacer which would move the carb back and up to clear the engine case. 🤔
@@flipfix do those china carbs use regular mukuni parts?
Oh man still not getting to see the LT2 run. Oh boy nice to hear the DS run, and your new lift is amazing for the price you paid. Hope you find a carb for the LT2! Nice work John! Your channel is doing really well.
I hear ya Dale, I'm looking forward to hearing the LT2 run as well. The carb I ordered from ebay should be here Thursday. I hope it fits, it's a shot in the dark carb.
Oh man, I wanted to see the LT2 run, can't believe Mike doesn't have a carb for that. Like seeing your channel grow.
I hit Mike up first thing on the carb but no go. He sold them long ago. If the carb I ordered won't fit there is one more on ebay for around $100 I might have to go that route if it's still there. I'm selling the LT2 if you or someone you know would be interested.
Nice work John, I really like your bore scope, I have an old one that's black and white from 20 years ago. You have to guess at what you're looking at.
Yeah, I like the scope too, wish the cable was shorter but you never know when that length might come in handy. Have you seen the $20 scopes that connect to your phone?
Man where can I get me one of those cool 2 stroke side grinders?!!?🤣 Regards, Duck
😅
Just drive your car up on the edge of the tire / rim - bead pops right off. cost = $0.00
Could have pulled the studs
I had a CT-175 !! " torque induction" reed valve. It was red.
I has a 78 DS 100 got smoke by a car in 1982 when granny turn in front of me bent the bike bad put me in hospital for almost a month. Fun bike till then
Hahaha nice Forrest Gump sound clip! 🤣
Stupid is as stupid does 🤪
Nice bike! Just picked one up yesterday, 1974. Nowhere near as nice as yours, gonna have some fun tinkering with it.
I did the same with a ordering the pump, placed the order for 3/4 shaft than realised that my engine was 7/8. Was able to cancel my order before it was shipped.
Pretty cool
You did a great job, I'd be happy with how both tanks look now. Unless you want to restore both bikes to concourse level, don't let the odd imperfection bother you, riding them is what it's all about.
Thanks for the kind words. I agree about not worrying about the dents, just trying to learn and do my best. Tanks for watching! 😂
How about a little heat shrinking, butane torch and wet rag cold-water bucket could help?
I agree, I'm going to give that a whirl. Thanks!
awesome!
Don’t crank on it so hard. The heavy gauge steel won’t move as easily as the 22 gauge the PDR guys work on. The light hammering around the edges of the dent is to relieve the pressure on the steel built up from the dent. For old tanks you have to sand and fill anyway. Also put something between the rod and the filler neck.
Thanks for the tips, I appreciate any input and thanks for watching.
0:19 ❤❤❤
Good video, Flip! I've heard a bit of chain swished around in a couple of ounces of Evapo-Rust before the soak, helps. That's a cool nuts-sorting trick; I think I will try that myself. Thanks
Thanks for watching LJ. Yeah, the poster tube works great for sorting.
i have one in near mint condition.. would love to chat with you about it.. needs a tune up...
nice keep it up. i like motorcycle tools tips
How do you always find these nice little bikes? There are YT-videos where dents in gastanks are removed by inflated bike tubes or freezed water in the fully filled tanks.
I look at Facebook and craigslist all the time.
Grabbed a Husky from Home Depot for $52 on clearance. Its about the same size as the Milwaukee.
I hear ya, I have a bunch of Bauer batteries, that's the main reason I bought the Bauer ratchet.
How do you know the balancer isn’t unbalanced, rather than the blade?
I balanced my balancer before i balanced my first blade😅
Bet you changed out spindle bearings though.
Does it come with some sort of guard? My friends and i like to have a few pops now and then in my shop.
No sir, just mark on the floor that around the balancer is a "pop" free zone. 😆
Just buy a new blade they are usually shit kicked anyways. 😂
Absolutely useless
Why in the actual F would anyone do this?
I bought a set of three blades to replace the original blades on my 50” Toro and the new blades I got from the dealership are too thin and the blades will not tighten properly so I had to go get an extra set of washers to be able to tighten them properly. The workmanship today is horrible No pride No quality Just give them the money and go about your way is their motto
I have a question sir
Like my old boss would say it's not a watch
Check the engine number, 477 is a 175, 476 is a 125, 482 is a 175 with trail gearing.
Thanks for the info, I checked engine number, it's a 477 = 175.
I have a Yamaha SR250 here in Australia as my daily ride to work bike. Same year 1980 model. The carb and the manifold are stock though im unsure why yours has a longer hose on it. Mine has a small hose that has been blocked off. photos.app.goo.gl/ZmhZiAuUaYwtMDR57 photos.app.goo.gl/SyEafMrgqNktt1226 She is due for a service hense all the oil all over the place Im fairly suyre that vaume line was uise d on the XT250 or XR250
I have one of these and it was out of balance. Balance your balancer before use. 😮
You balance your tires, dont you ?
Too bad there's not a link to get one. Oh well. On to the next video.
Tried that and it stills smells musty 😞
I rode one of those once they’re like little tanks, what do you plan on doing with it?
It sold not long after the video was posted.
That's similar to how we check propeller balance.
I'm surprised someone hasn't come up with a electronic balancer like when you balance a tire on a car
Turned out to be a lock washer on the screw that was used to mount the petcock to the tank, fuel leaked past the threads on the screw then past the cut in the lock washer.
Looks a lot like the magna matic balancer I’ve been using for nearly 15 years
Disconnects for the ends with a hold up. Have it both ways. Cheers
Yep, a great way to go.
I have a screw sticking out of garage cabinet. Been working for decades
How the heck you get that fly wheel off so easy, mine is glued on there
Should be m18 vs the 20v(18v nominal )
I am 50 years old. That was the same color and model of my fitst bike, circa 1978.
