Laxlife: Defense Drill #7 - "Recover" Top Side
Despite a defender’s best efforts, inevitably the offensive player will get a step ahead of them on their top-side, after perhaps getting beat with a well timed dodge or series of dodges; and this drill is all about recovering back into top-side positioning after that has happened.

Laxlife: Defense Drill #6A - 4 Corner Checking ("Top-Side" Defense)
zhlédnutí 43Před 2 hodinami
While playing 1-on-1 defense, defensive players should generally try to take away (“deny”) top-side and offensive players should try to get over top, in order to get quality shots on goal (from inside of the prime scoring area). "Top-side positioning" refers to a defender’s feet/hips being in line with the opponent’s top shoulder (relative to their stick), “over-playing” their top-side with a “...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #5A - Rollies Partner "Box-Out" Drill
zhlédnutí 62Před 14 hodinami
“Boxing-out” literally means to establish body position between the ball and the person challenging for possession When the opposing team shoots the ball it is the responsibility of all defensive players to control their check before attempting to corral a loose ball off of a rebound, especially the defenders who are checking the crease players. At the end of the day, boxing out is all about im...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #4A - Shot Blocking ("Close The Gap")
zhlédnutí 62Před 16 hodinami
A defensive player must be able to position themselves to take away “outside shots” by an offensive player without “screening” the goalie. Players should be in a “closed stance” and overplaying the offensive player’s stick (standing between their stick and the net), at the same time closing the gap on the shooter as best as possible. Closing the gap is when the defender rushes out at a ball car...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #2 - Monkey in The Middle
zhlédnutí 16Před 19 hodinami
Keeping your stick up on defense is probably the most important habit to build and is something that gets harder as players get tired, like a boxer keeping their arms up in a fight. Having your stick up will knock down 1 in 10 passes simply by accident, and this drill is about learning how to move your stick ever so slightly once it’s up to mirror the stick of the passer, perhaps allowing defen...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #3A - On Ball Shadowing
zhlédnutí 117Před 21 hodinou
Maintaining top-side defensive positioning is the hallmark of good one on one defense, and should be used the large majority of the time less perhaps an “iso” situation where a defender is all “alone” on one side of the floor; which is a rarity. The on-ball shadowing drill is a great way of teaching a closed stance and top-shoulder land marking to beginners, after first having taught them defen...
Laxlife: Cradling Drill #3B - Open Floor Checking
zhlédnutí 34Před dnem
Once players have mastered cradling and dodging around pylons the next progression is to work on their cradling (aka ball protection) and dodging in the open floor against a defender. This drill is as much a drill for the defender as it is the ball carrier, which is why variation 1 starts with just the defender practicing their footwork & a demo on back-pedaling, drop stepping & side-shuffling ...
Laxlife: Cradling Drill #3A - Cradling Around Pylons
zhlédnutí 46Před dnem
Cradling and Dodging around pylons are some of the best ways to develop a players competency handling the ball. In this drill (otherwise known as the slalom drill) coaches can arrange players into any straight, zig-zag or combined formation, using half the floor or full floor, with lines on both sides in order to maximize the number of reps for the participants. Laxlife: Games Drill #4 - Sharks & Minnows
zhlédnutí 13Před 14 dny
This drill is an all time classic in any physical education setting, where the athletes (the minnows) needs to get from one side of the floor/field to the other, without being dislodged of their ball AKA “caught” by the defender(s) the sharks; this drill is also known as stormy seas in some parts. This drill is super fun and always a player's favourite. Surely they will want to play more than o...

Laxlife: Cradling Drill #1A - Stationary Cradling
zhlédnutí 31Před 14 dny
Cradling the ball is how we ultimately run with the ball in our sticks once a lacrosse game gets going. It is also a way to protect the ball from stick checks by the opponent. It is probably the hardest skill to teach beginners and something that develops and gets smoother over time, the more the athlete keeps the stick in their hands. At the end of the day, it easy to tell a lacrosse player fr...
Laxlife: Loose Ball Drill #10 - Loose Ball Battles
zhlédnutí 105Před 14 dny
Everything in sport can be broken down into 1-on-1 battles, to win them it takes effort, wanting it more; and the best loose ball players have what we call a 6th gear, able to go in the corner against 2 players and come out with the ball, some way, somehow, doing whatever it takes. The biggest determining factor in getting a loose ball is hard work/effort. Often times, battling to keep the ball...
Laxlife: Loose Ball Drill #8A - Loose Ball With Pressure
zhlédnutí 66Před 14 dny
Adding pressure to a loose ball is the next logical progression in the development of loose ball technique, giving players more of a feel for a game-like situation. This is a great compete drill and variation #1 is the perfect segue into the next drill we recommend in the process for introducing players to 1-on-1 battles, which is the actual 1-on-1 battle itself. For a more detailed breakdown o...
Laxlife: Loose Ball Drill#4 - LB Sans Pressure
zhlédnutí 67Před 21 dnem
Random loose balls without pressure are a great way for players to get lots of loose ball reps while also incorporating the dynamic aspect of a ball bouncing off the boards, which allows players to get comfortable with the different spin the ball can take, how to judge it and how to keep the ball in front of them. This drill shows the variety of loose ball skills that can be practiced within su...
Laxlife: Loose Ball Drill #3 - Repetitive Loose Balls
zhlédnutí 36Před 21 dnem
Picking up repetitive loose balls could be perceived as well, repetitive, but repetition is the best way to stabilize a skill, later giving way to variability, which eventually supersedes repetition in terms of skill development. I always just called it Indian Scooping, and your success rate depends on how much you practice! Just like anything. Additionally you can even reverse Indian scoop. In other words do it backwards but with the same hand.

Sorry but that’s not how u properly do it we take the back in the front and we ➡️ and than while it’s rolling back we put our stick infront and we scoop

  • @toyorover1313
    @toyorover1313 Před 28 dny

My theory is that with the old wood and gut sticks the thicker lip of the stick made a normal 'scoop' a bit more difficult than it is with the plastic sticks. Thus the success ratio was closer to other methods of picking up the ball. Not to mention that in box lacrosse this has it's uses when in the corner. Easier with pinched sticks.

      Why ??

    • @Laxlife
      @Laxlife Před měsícem

@@dontaescisson7472 because it's an all or none technique that is not as efficient as picking up the ball with proper fundamentals. Why risk it? Where we've seen people use it in games is in a scrum where there's no chance to pick up the ball regularly. Some people might "bat the ball" out of the scrum, where others are able to use this pick up technique, which the best are able to do with one hand (again not proper fundamentals). Bryan Kazarian (NLL) was the best at it.
