    I wouldn't advise building this as you need licences to build and test radio transmitting equipment. You'd also need to have a broadcast licence, especially if you are playing music.

      That depends on the laws of your country. Many of these low power devices fall into similar categories as FM devices they can buy such as car FM transmitters and mobile device transmitters. Each country has their own laws regarding this so I always try advise people to know the laws of their country first. I don't give legal advice and this is not legal advice. That is why there is a disclaimer both in the video and the description.

Not only do you get to learn basic electronics but you end up with a functional and totally fun transmitter that is just hours of pleasure to use. For the new radio presenters, as so many of my viewers are, this can be perfect for having their friends and family in their house listen to their first radio shows. I have built so many of these over the years that I don't know what I enjoy most, building it or playing with it. So much fun. I hope you decide to build another one again. Cheers :)

    Personally I would use times microwave lmr400. Although rg213 is a standard in many places. It predominantly was used by the United States military, due to its double silver shield. It does have less than rg58, but also it's considerably heavier. And if you're stringing cables up a few hundred feet on a tower. Wait becomes a concern, also there is more LMR 400 in LMR 400 made every year than rg213. And is also generally available easily on the internet. You get the power handling and lost characteristics of essentially half inch heliax, without the weight and complexity., there's also LMR 240, which is a RG58 roughly sized coax that has about the same loss Factor as rg213.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 7 dny

      Thanks for your input on the cables. Always appreciated. I have had a few people talk about Lmr cables. They are great and solve a lot of problems. In many cases though the cost for small operators is not worth it. For a small community radio station simply turning up the transmitter power fixes any losses and the installation is simple enough with most setups being less than a thousand watts. Many as low as 100 watts. So they don't really see the value in it. On big professional set ups yeah its almost a no brainer. But for a station using a 250 watt transmitter into a two stack antenna set up 30 meters up needing only an erp of 200 watts its not even on their list to have LMR cables. But it's always good for new people to learn about the cable options. Cheers :)

    30 year plus veteran broadcast engineer here, let me see your breakdown of these antennas is quite good. This video actually serves two purposes one to explain in layman's terms what's going to happen. And also the technicians that get too deep into the engineering., I have seen some antenna Rays with as many as 16 circular polarized dipoles stock at one wavelength apart, taking up most of a 400 ft tower. All being fed using Ridgid cable. I've also made them with rg59 coat hangers and PVC pipe. The only limiting factor is rg59 can only withstand about 100 watts. In that case we would use rg11, which can handle approximately 500 to 1000 watts. Usually we design each dipole to handle 50% of the total power will be feeding into the system even if it's a four-way system, will still design them to take usually around 400 watts each. I've also seen systems, where you have four dipoles on the tower. The cables on them are all long enough to reach the ground. And then all of the same length. Each dipole is connected to the output of a separate power amplifier, the inputs to the power amplifier are generated by a divider Network after the exciter. Essentially the phase splitting and alignment, is done at the input of the amplifiers has the amplifiers do not add significant phase shift. This can't be said for all amplifiers. But in most cases the modern solid state ones can do this. It's actually possible to obtain 100,000 watts effective radiator power using only 10kw of amplifier. Each dipole, is built into 50 ohm antenna. All the cables are exactly the same length of 50 ohm coax. And yes this uses hundreds of feet of coax to do this. You must have the same length at the Top Antenna as at the bottom antenna then all the cables are ran back to the transmitter. Where you would have the output of 10 seperate power amplifiers. Each power amplifier feeds one antenna.. the input of each amplifier, comes from a power divider network. Essentially the same thing you're building for the antennas with coax, you build a smaller version that stays down with the amplifier. The beauty of the system is that it's easy to install you just roll up the excess coax and cable tie it to the tower. Once you have all the antennas spaced on the tower and everything is ready to go. With the multiplied gain of 10 dipole antennas, we're being effective radiated power of 100,000 watts. The true beauty in the system. Is that should you decide you want a small amount of beam tilt, either up or down it's going to be accomplished by just changing the length of the coax feeding the power amplifier to that antenna. And up or down beam till is easily added

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 7 dny

      Wow it's always great to hear about the big installations and to hear from broadcast industry professionals. So thanks for your input. I unfortunately never got work on such big set ups. It's even difficult to comprehend that kind of power and all the issues that go with it. In most of my set ups if it went wrong the transmitter would go into safe mode until you fix the problem with no real consequences but at your power levels it's a whole different ball game. The cost as well in a completely different league. I think the majority of my viewers will never encounter set ups like you have worked on so always interesting to get some input about it. Thanks for you nice compliment. I do try my best to make my videos as accurate as possible while making them as understandable for everyone as possible. The majority of my viewers are first timers so I try to make the information as accessible as possible. Thanks again for your input. Always appreciate getting feedback from professionals. Cheers :)

    There must be an error in the circuit diagram. The thick wire says both GND and -9V. There doesn't seem to be ay negative voltage, so I think GND is correct.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 7 dny

      Yes I think the circuit was intending to show the negative voltage as a the earth or negative side and not minus 9V. I think this has more to do with that a 9V volt battery is used which would have a negative symbol but not actually mean a negative voltage because that would imply a 18V difference which this circuit probably cant handle. Thanks for pointing that out. Always helps to have extra eyes looking at it. Cheers. :)

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 8 dny

      This transmitter as it is now can have a longer and shorter range depending on whether it is used indoors or outside. Inside a house it will probably reach about 30 meters but outside can probably reach about 100 meters. If the antenna is changed it can probably reach up to one mile outdoors. I will have another video soon showing how to change the antenna to make this transmitter long range.

      @@inspiresoundpro With higher wattage? How bout 15 watt?

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 7 dny

      This transmitter is a very low power transmitter of probably only 30 to 100 mw. A higher power transmitter with 1 Watt or more will have a much longer range but it still depends on the antenna height and type of antenna. Often the antenna height will make way more difference to the signal range than the signal power. Often the signal power only helps to fill in the signal area or footprint but the antenna height can make a huge difference. For example a 1 Watt transmitter at 20 Meters high will have a much much longer range than a 20 Watt transmitter at 1 Meter height. So although the power of the transmitter does have an impact on the range there are other things to keep in mind too.

The video you recommend at the end titled, ‘FM Transmitter How To Build Circuit DIY Homemade’ does not explain how to tune (adjust the aluminum rods) on this adjustable Dipole antenna for maximum receiving of FM signals. Maybe I missed something. Thank you again. I like the way you explain the build process. Very clear and thorough!

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 8 dny

      You are very welcome :) Yes I have a video on how to tune antennas. My channel is mostly focused on transmitting but the same principles apply for receiving. Only problem is that to tune the antenna perfectly you actually need to run a transmitter into in to measure the return signal or you have to buy a fairly expensive antenna analyzer. The best option for receiver antenna is to simply adjust the antenna by physical length to as close to the signal wavelength as possible. The video to watch is this one : czcams.com/video/WOGX70-kIYA/video.html It is intended for transmitters so most of the tuning wont apply but it does explain how to calculate the antenna length using an online calculator.

  • @youtubecommentor4480

    Can I use this adjustable dipole antenna for simply receiving FM signals? All I want to do is receive a strong and clear FM signal on my FM receiver. In other words, is this adjustable Dipole antenna project ‘overkill’ for simply receiving FM signals or would I be better off simply building a fixed length basic dipole antenna? Thank you kindly for this DIY adjustable Dipole antenna project. Looks fantastic!

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 8 dny

      Thank you. I always enjoy it when people get some value form my videos :) Yes this antenna can work very well for receiving. It may be an overkill if you only want a slight improvement but if you are far from a transmitter like in rural areas then this antenna is great for that. You can also build a directional version but that would be way bigger and difficult to install. For transmitting and receiving this antenna, especially if you tune it to the frequency you want, will give a very strong signal.

    Can we sell the music generated by our prompts using this tool

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 11 dny

      Well according to the terms and conditions of Udio, people who make music with Udio have commercial use of the music. What that means as far as selling a song is hard to say. There are still questions about the copyrights of AI created music. Many have said that according to laws being developed in USA Ai music cannot be copyrighted. This means although you might be able to for example use the music you create in your commercial projects according to Udio, there is still some confusion on what rights are actually given to the creator of the Ai music. This is not legal advice and because the views on Ai music are not clear its probably best to get legal advice about selling Ai music before you do.

RadioDJ is a great free alternative to Station Playlist but doesn't have all the features of Station Playlist. Basically any audio software that can give sound and any automation software can plug into this way of streaming. I know Station Playlist also has its own streaming plugin but to be honest I have only used Station Playlist in this way where I ran the audio out from the studio mixer into another PC which would run the audio streaming through WinAmp. I have another audio streaming video coming out soon that will not only give you the streaming that you can use on free platforms but will also show your listenership numbers. Most of the free streaming services ask at least for a small fee to see how many people are listening but this other way of streaming is rock solid and displays your listenership live as its happening at no cost. But to answer your question yes it works great with Station Playlist.

The ballun can reduce some interference and match impedance but if the antenna is built correctly, tuned close to resonance, and installed correctly the ballan will most likely make no measurable difference to the transmitted signal. In two radio where the antenna is being used for transmitting and receiving then a ballun can be more noticeable but for a purely transmitting antenna which is what this design was intended for, a ballun is not really needed. I do appreciate your input though. Its always great to chat with people about this because it gives newcomers more insight into things they might not have heard of. And to add to this I ran a low power commercial radio station with a 1 Watt Fm transmitter and we did not use a ballun and the signal was fantastic. The reason is that the antenna was high up on a hill and tuned and installed very well. These things matter way more than a ballun. This is something I try to get my viewers to pay attention to more as it will dramatically affect their range. Thanks so much. Cheers.,

      What is common to use a balance on HF frequencies, and VHF frequencies is not necessary, the dipole itself when Tim correctly should be almost a 50mm resistive load. So feeding it with a length of 50 ohm is perfectly acceptable. The phasing coax or power divider coax, it's usually made from 75 ohm, either rg11, or RG6 with Copper sheld, the point where the two interconnect, can be as simple as a basic coaxial t connector. Important part is to make sure that all of the coaxes are the same length. If one cable is even a few inches longer. It will cause the signals to not be in Phase when they leave the tower. You also have a high reflected power on your meter.

      Thank you .Always great hear from people in the field. Yes as you said the idea of a ballun for all uses is not correct. In many cases the use of the ballun distracts people from paying attention to what you mentioned which can make a much bigger difference. Also I think some people think that the ballun fixes all problems which is not a good way to think. Thanks so much for your input. My viewers do seem to learn as much from the comments as the videos. It is great fun to work with and gives people an opportunity to create music without learning to write music and play an instrument. But it is not at the replacement stage.....yet lol. Many musicians are getting ahead of the game by using Ai for inspiration and even the basis for a new track. They then mix their own song from there. So as with all new tech, its not the Ai that will replace you but people who use AI the best way they can will maybe replace those who refuse to accept its existence. Things change and we need to adapt the best we can :) I do support original artists though so all the best with your music. I hope you have great success.

The worst antenna was a circular polarized one it had no range at all . I sold that on eBay to a guy in NYC that could vise grip it to his fire escape to do his show then remove it . Small note, in a large band system covering the whole FM band ( for multiple broadcast frequencies, [multiplex] ), you need large band dipoles and a coupler. Same length for all cables still applies between antenna elements and coupler to get -in phase-. The total system gain is also a factor of power loss ( insertion loss VSWR ) losses in cables, connectors, coupler, any cavity filter.

      I unfortunately cant recommend any specific brands or models. Although I have tested some cheaper as well as broadcast level transmitters. I simply can't guarantee any brand or specific model. A rule of thumb for me is to see if the transmitter is either approved by FCC or of a quality that would be approved by the broadcast authority in your country. I don't recommend using any unlicensed transmitters. To work towards obtaining a broadcast license or operate within the law of allowed low power transmitters its always better to choose transmitters that are either approved or meet the specifications of approved transmitters in your country. Many of the transmitters will either have an FCC approved sticker on them or some sort of approval sticker from the broadcast authority of your country. Any other non approved or low spec transmitters are just a magnet for trouble. Make sure you know and abide by the laws of your country and only use approved equipment for your country. As I said in the video I don't condone any unlicensed broadcasting. Make sure if you want to broadcast that you are not breaking the laws of your country. Any broadcasting you chose to do is at your own risk and I do not recommend it or support any broadcasting that is not legally approved in your country or any other.

      The idea behind the design is that it can be adapted to the parts available to you. A range of box, bolt and aluminum tubes can be used. The dimensions given are the ones that work well together but the dimensions can be adapted to your size box and aluminum rods. Some people have even adapted the design to other frequency bands like Vhf and uhf. The idea is not for it to be a one size only design but rather a template to adapt to what you have available. The wavelength for FM band though means keeping the lengths of the rods the same but most other things can change.

They are quite cheap and very easy to install. But buy the best one you can. Here are some links to ones on Ebay but you can buy them in many places. tinyurl.com/zh92tk45 or this one tinyurl.com/3tuu2jaf but make sure you choose one with the right connectors on it to fit with your cable connectors or you have to use adaptors that lose a bit of signal. Actually, those radio waves are not that dangerous... even with 1kW it won't heat you up enough!

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, the FM signal coming out of the antenna (depending on signal strength) which is set up correctly is most likely not going to heat you up enough to harm you purely with heat but is still very unhealthy. Extended exposure to high-power radio waves can cause all sorts of medical problems. I am not a doctor and don't give any medical advice so don't take this as medical advice or safety advice of any kind but from my experience most responsible broadcast companies will not allow anyone to be near a high-power signal for any length of time. In many broadcast installations, the entire broadcasting system needs to be shut down before anyone can even walk into the room where the equipment is stored. There may even be regulations in different countries that prohibit close contact with high-power transmitters when they are on, not to mention being anywhere near the antenna that is putting out any significant power. Working on an antenna that is "live" with RF power is also silly because if, for example, the cable is pulled out then the transmitter can be damaged because of the load being mismatched and if the person holding the end of that cable touches the core of that cable they could end up with some serious medical problems. Like I said, I am not a doctor and don't give medical advice, but I also would not advise people to be irresponsible.

    • @sjoervanderploeg4340
      @sjoervanderploeg4340 Před 4 měsíci

      @@inspiresoundpro I never said to touch an antenna that is live. Either way, those radio waves are not going to hurt you. Yes, if you are next to a high power millimeter wave antenna you could get some tissue damage because it can't dissipate the heat fast enough. But for FM down near the 100MHz range, you would need an awful lot of power... not something anyone making a DIY antenna is going to deal with. We have a 50kW output, in general radio waves are a form of non-ionizing radiation so all that happens is heat transfer. Nothing more, nothing less.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Před 4 měsíci

      I didn't say that you said to touch the antenna. I was simply pointing out the dangers. As you mentioned, there are people who enjoy DIY projects, which I have on this channel. They are not always aware of potential dangers. The part in the video about being near the antenna when it is on is precautionary. It was not intended to be a scientific explanation of how radio waves affect people. I assumed that most people would understand that the cartoon character would also show that there was some exaggeration in expressing how dangerous it is while still suggesting that people be safe. I get your point about the level of power of radio signals needed to become a serious problem but the clip in the video was a simple short cautionary insert to make people aware of potential dangers and not to make a factual statement about the level of radio signals and their direct corollation with specific medical conditions. I'm not sure why you seem to take this so personally. It's a fun video filled with animation to introduce new people to tuning antennas and not a documentary. The video is far from being a scientific thesis and more a fun piece of edutainment. While I enjoy and appreciate input from so many people, I really did not intend to put out a controversial statement about any disputed scientific facts to start a battle of wills. If you see the video in the light of how it was intended you might understand that the argument is moot.
