  • If you are building a radio station studio for the first time you will need to know all the parts that go into making a on air studio. This includes the studio equipment and what to use in the room to make the room sound like a radio studio.
    To buy cool radio merch and to support my channel go to: www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/138...
    I make a small amount of money for each item you purchase.
    Thanks for your support.
    A radio station on air studio is very different to a music studio or a voice recording studio. Different equipment is used and the layout is completely different. Apart from connecting the studio to the radio transmitter, you need to know what goes where and how to make the on air studio comfortable and easy to use.
    Apart from he importance of sounding good, the studio should be functional and make the radio presenters job easier. There is a basic set up that works well for live on air radio studios. This set up needs to included all the necessary audio equipment but also be structured in a way that is easy to understand and user friendly for all in the studio including guests.

    0:53 - I never worked in any station that used "condensor" mics. They all used dynamic mics.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yes its fine to use dynamic microphones. I have also used them in smaller stations. They are cheaper and easy to use. The reason why bigger stations use condenser mics is that they, in most cases, sound better and are easier to control because of their adjustable response patterns. Also a lot of dynamic mics use unbalanced cables making it more difficult to control noise interference especially from cell phones. So yes dynamic mics are fine to use, but if you can afford it, condenser mics are often superior in many ways.That said there are some professional dynamic mics like some of the shure mics that are perfect for live studios but that is not the case for all dynamic mics.

      Hey Matt. That's awesome :) Building a radio station from scratch can be very rewarding even though it can be hard work. You will be amazed at what you can improvise to save on the budget. Please post or send me a pic of your studio as you work on it. Would love to see it develop. If you have any questions or run into any tricky bits please feel free to ask me. If I can offer any ideas to help I will gladly do so. Super exciting. Best of luck. Hope it turns into a fun experience for everyone involved :)

      @inspiresoundpro  Před rokem

      Not sure if you are saying highly basic is a good or bad thing lol. It was intended to give an over view of the radio studio. More detail would require showing cables being connected and carpets being glued which I don't think many people want to watch. Radio studios are not actually very complicated. They can be fun to build though. I found getting a group of friends together with some music and a few cold ones makes it into a fun way to start a radio station. Although I did build one on my own with a 5 liter box of the cheapest grape juice and that went just fine lol.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this...we are busy building our small radio station...well the building part is done...now the equipment part😑very pricy...we made our own acoustic panels for sound damping. We decided to just go with a normal desk since the equipment will cost an arm and a leg. My question is when applying for a radio licence what do i meed to produce? And is there any additional equipment that we gotta buy?

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 10 měsíci

      Hey I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I would love to see pics of your studio when it's done. The license application is actually the most difficult part of building a radio station. More difficult than building any part of the radio station. I like to recommend that people building radio stations is to build all of it and run as an online station first so that you can build listenership and establish a need for your radio station. The biggest problem with FM licenses is the lack of available frequencies. In some areas there are none available so you can't apply for one. Even if there is a frequency available you will have massive competition for that frequency. So build an online station first so you can show that your competition have not shown that need and showing that you have experience and an established business. Then once you are ready ask your broadcast authority for the application process and needed documents. They normally provide all application forms and required documents. Then be prepared for a massive amount of work to complete it and then a long tough fight to get the license. Sorry to burst your bubble but it is important to know that getting an FM broadcast license is extremely difficult. I have done it a few times and it is not a path you should take on without your eyes open. It is not for the feint hearted. I wish you the best though and hope you succeed

    Kindly suggest FM Broadcast Transmitter, FM Antenna, RF Cable and RF connectors that will be suitable for Country Wide Radio Transmission.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hi. It depends on how big your country is. Most FM broadcast signals can only travel 50 to 60 Miles maximum no matter what type of transmitter or antenna you use. For county wide broadcasting most stations would use multiple transmitters. AM transmitters can go much further but most countries don't use AM anymore.

    Software covers everything on here now, don’t need booths or sound dampening any more, great video though. Entertaining.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. Software can work but in many cases having a quality acoustically correct room is far superior to software trying to correct the audio problems. Also software will struggle to remove external noises like people talking outside the studio etc. Software audio cleaning should only really be used to clean recordings that have noise. Live studios should not need audio cleaning. The cleaned audio will always be inferior to audio in an acoustically treated room.

    • @truecrimereaction
      @truecrimereaction Před 10 měsíci

      @inspiresoundpro my software doesn't let any noise through the mic in my noisy studio at all infact the monitor speakers are on and I'm not using my headphones and there's constant noise from traffic and people coming into the shop but none goes through the mic thanks to the OBS filters, its quite amazing and I've never seen anything like it. I've been recording radio ads in a professional station for 30 years and not seen software that's so clean. It's very impressive you should take a look.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 10 měsíci

      @@truecrimereaction I checked it out and I do like it as software but it still does not perform as well as a properly acoustically treated room. Once the threshold is reached everything comes through with your voice. If you are not speaking then yes it does remove the noise but most audio gates can do that. I am a big fan of free software too and would definitely recommend OBS for my viewers. Its a nice piece of software and its free. So a big fan. That said the noise suppression isn't noise filtering or reverb removal. It seems to simply behave like a high quality audio gate. I am not a fan of gates unless in a high noise environment like an outside broadcast where you can't do anything about the noise. But in a controlled environment like a live radio studio, I find gates to be unpleasant. That said too, for someone who does not have any sound proofing or sound damping, its better than not using it. But if you can afford it the sound damping and proofing is a better option. Thanks for the input though. I do love exploring new options when I can. Cheers.

    • @truecrimereaction
      @truecrimereaction Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@inspiresoundpro I totally agree, it’s only something I’m recently developing in my studio and the quality coming through is first class. For people on a budget that aren’t well funded corporations they can use these resources to get going. Lots of people waste money on items that they might not need. That guy below with the school kids won’t need any room treatment he just needs to use those filters and the kids will sound great. Where as a commercial radio station will be building sound proof rooms regardless.. I’m trying to buy a new build house at the moment and it’s been designed to be quiet for a home Internet business and all the doors and walls are thicker higher spec.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro  Před 10 měsíci

      @@truecrimereaction Yeah it can work and its free. There are also cheap ways of sound damping though. I have used second hand floor carpet tiles on the walls and floor and got great results for a low budget FM station. So it doesn't have to cost a lot.

      Hi thank you :) The radio desk is very specialized. You can't find them in regular music equipment shops. You can find them online. I have found some on EBay before but you have to search for radio broadcast mixer or desk. Normal audio mixer won't have the triggers for the microphone and on air light etc. There are older analogue desks that are cheaper. The new digital desks are more expensive.
